I find horses pretty pointless. If you could shoot from them it would be a different story. And if they didn't have AI it would be better than the AI they have at the moment.

But I guess it is nice riding around on one. Until it gets itself killed.

Horses are worth it for travelling at more than a snail's pace while overburdened. (You can fast travel as well.)

I say get a horse first and with all the extra loot you can lug you'll quickly make the extra 1,000 so you can then buy the house.

If you don't own whatever you're storing something in then there's a chance it'll disappear.

Ah ok, thanks for that information.

Now I'm off to check if my stuff is still to be found in those chests, and move it to my house :)

One thing that annoys me greatly about chests/other containers is that you can't sort the items in there by category. So you have to scroll through such a long fucking list to see if you've stored that particular kind of potion or whatever you're looking for.

If you're ever overburdened and your companion has a full load as well, you can actually just drop whatever item you want them to pick up on the floor and then give them the command to pick it up. It can do funny things like make a weapon disappear (graphically, not from the inventory) if you give them one that's better than what they're currently holding, but it's generally incredibly useful if you're in the middle of a dungeon and find something you just have to have.

There are certain camps where you can't kill certain people as well which I find really breaks it for me.

This one time I was overencumbered so every time I beat this guy down I tried to walk slowly away as far as I could but he'd get up and run over to me again, only to be one-hit downed again. Only for him to get up and COME AT ME BRO again and again. In the end I had to drop some shit, run off, fast travel home, fast travel back and pick up what I dropped.

Besides, After you've got a horse, there's fucking nothing else to spend the money on.

After a quick subtraction of the gold I've currently got from the gold I've found/received according to my stats I make it that I've spent 211,349 in gold. I've bought 2 houses and 1 horse; the rest has gone on weapons/armour/soul gems/ingots/bounties/ingredients/potions/scrolls/spell books/bribes/skill training sessions

I currently have about 125 000 that I'm lugging around. I don't see how it could ever be worthwhile focusing on Speech, unless you do a lot of skill training which gets expensive after a while. Mine is at 60, and it's another 10 before I can invest in shops so they have more cash. But what am I ever going to need more cash for? I already have three homes, and I could probably buy all the others and get their upgrades for the money I have now.

So, I have made my first 5k.

Is it worth buying a house or is it just a glorious waste of my hard earned money?

I would say it's worth it even if you don't spend any further cash on doing it up, for the bed and for the chest which is a handy storage space for all your smithing materials, given the proximity of the forge there.

Not convinced. I've bought a shit-ton of iron ingots. I spend a fair chunk of cash when I see things I want to de-enchant to grab the enchantment, too.

Man, there are a shit-ton of ingots just lying around this game in the back rooms of blacksmiths, around mining towns, in dwarven storage rooms, and then there are plenty of mines where you can mine the ore yourself and smelt it down.

I know I posted earlier on about the uselessness of cash after a certain point but there are some items you can buy with a much higher enchantment level than you will ever manage even with that skill fully maxed out e.g necklace with 70% fire resist.

I think my tailor dummies may be bugged in that I left an expensive mage suit on one and it disappeared (the suit that is not the dummy) but this could be a late night confusion instead. I know the weapon racks don't work fully - the central ones are OK but the outer ones won't accept any weapons (this is pre patch).

Yeas, I am not convinced the perks obtainable beyond "any vendor will buy any type of (non stolen) item" are worthwhile - it takes a bit longer to do but with a bit of ingenuity you can get rid of everything without needing vendors to have more cash, or the need for more fences (I have 4 at present available).

It's got to the stage where I can't be bothered picking up most loot in dungeons because I'll have to spend almost as much time as the dungeon itself getting rid of everything. And for what? More money that I have no use for? And I've done so many quests where I get a reward of 750, 1000 or even 1500 gold for doing hardly anything.

A child picked up one of my discarded books and returned it to me, saying "You've dropped something".

Like a master fisherman, casting his bait...

Karzee, how on earth have you come across that much money!

Well I've been playing for almost 200hrs for starters, plus I'm like a hoover when it comes to looting a room. I pickpocket, I break into homes, and generally believe that everything not nailed down is mine. Things I don't want I sell. I've also made a shed load of cash making weapons & armour. Finally, being lvl.42, I'm regularly given 1.2k in gold for doing quests.

I'm not lugging that much cash in gold though. The max I had once was 42k but it's down to 17k now.

I have a friend with me on my travels, the wonderful and friendly J'zargo who loves to speak in the third person. Right now I'm in my wife's house with her. Me and J'zargo sitting at the dinner table while she takes a nap.

This game is truly incredible, it just keeps giving me amazing moments.

Not sure if this has been posted yet - update news from Bethesda

Continued Game Updates – This week we released update 1.2 across all platforms, and we’ll be releasing an incremental update next week. We anticipate it will be up on PC first, and then hit PS3 and Xbox 360 later in the week. Among other things, the update will fix issues like magic resistance not calculating properly and the rare, amazing backwards flying dragon. Once the update is released, we’ll share the full release notes.

Looks like a week before I get my resistances back.

Ok this is fucking sweet:

http://www.bethblog.com/

As of today, it’s been three weeks since we released Skyrim worldwide. We’re simply blown away by the response, from new and old fans, and amazed by the sheer number of people playing the game. It’s been absolutely fantastic hearing your stories, seeing early mods, and watching fan videos (more live music ones please, we love those).

We want to thank everyone reading this for playing our game and supporting all it tries to do. We wouldn’t have this success without you, and we want you to know we’re committed to making your Skyrim experience even better. And not just in the short term, but over the life of the game. Here’s a quick peek at what we’re working on right now:

Creation Kit — Beginning in January, PC players will be able to download the same development tools we used at Bethesda Game Studios to create Skyrim. In tandem with the Creation Kit’s release, we will roll out a new Wiki and videos to help you get started. It also features something we think you’re going to love…

Steam Workshop – We’re excited to share news that we’ve been working closely with Valve to integrate Steam Workshop into the Creation Kit. Using the Workshop, you’ll have free user content with the push of a button. The Creation Kit will bundle your mod and upload it to the Workshop, where everyone can browse, rate, and flag mods for download. You’ll be able to do this from any web device, including your smartphone. Like a live Netflix queue, when you fire up Skyrim, mods you flagged will be automatically downloaded and installed. Everyone here is really excited about the opportunities and possibilities this opens up for our entire community.

Prefer to use existing modding sites? Not a problem. You’ll still be able to upload/share/access Skyrim mods on fan-created mod sites.

We anticipate it will be up on PC first, and then hit PS3 and Xbox 360 later in the week. Among other things, the update will fix issues like magic resistance not calculating properly and the rare, amazing backwards flying dragon. Once the update is released, we’ll share the full release notes.

After the holidays, we’ll continue to release regular updates for the game — through full title updates, as well as incremental “gameplay updates” to fix whatever issues come up along with rebalancing portions of the game for difficulty or exploits. We plan on having a lot of these, not just a few. Overall, you should expect updates to be hitting the PC and Steam earlier and more often, as that’s a process we control. Console updates will follow, as they must be certified and processed by those manufacturers.

We all know this is a huge game, and everyone has a different experience. We’ll continue to do everything we can to make the game better and better for as many people as possible every day. We’ve also realized that with the millions upon millions of people playing Skyrim, we need to treat our updates with greater care. If we get too aggressive trying to fix a minor issue, we run a risk of breaking something larger in a game like this. To be safe, we are prioritizing code side fixes right now over data fixes. Quest and balance issues are usually data, and those will start rolling in a large way with the January updates.

Thanks again for your continued support and patience. We truly have the best fans in the world, and we couldn’t do it without you.

EDIT - As Space Gibbon says :D
