Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Had a holy shit moment. I was heading to Azura's shrine and I saw one of the winged beast bastards not to far, so I diverted to face it. I saw the dragon waiting, I got close and a stand off happened. Niether of us was moving, and then it took off and the battle began.

I won. I guess the dragon's tactic of flying around, landing, breath some fire, didn't pay off for it.

Did you not get to this bit here:

Apologies, it's one of my faffing about pictures, but it'll do the job:

2011-11-12_00005.jpg

Because if you haven't then it's either gone wrong on you, or you've missed out on half of the dungeon!

Yeah, i had to get through there to get to the end of the dungeon.

Is there something I needed to pick up from there?

Got the claw.

Still just loving this.

Every time I start playing it I have about 5 minutes where I feel it doesn't look very good, but before I know it im staring in amazement at some incredible vista , or marveling at some little detail.

Just found out about crafting and looked at all the perks and seen my life disappearing before my eyes....

Slew my first dragon took six tries and thought it was excellent how different each of the 6 encounters were, in two of them i couldn't even get its attention and it buggered off lol

Barbas. Best extra character ever.

I don't think he can be killed!

Gone to solitude and caused a bit of trouble. Lydia, Barbas, and my other dog have killed everyone. I'm hiding the the shadows not moving and my sneak is increasing!

My bounty is on 1000 now even though they've taken out loads of guards an chased others off. What a team!

Shamelessly reloaded and jumped up to...

Interrupt the execution. One guard charged and me and swung, I stepped aside and he missed me and killed the prisoner instead!

Edit - I just searched his corpse. He has an amulet on him that reduces shouts by 20%! Probably a decent one to de-enchant...

This game is ridiculously good :D

Well, Marcurio and I just got gay married. Beautiful ceremony. Two of my housecarls came to the wedding. Lydia didn't show up, though. I think, based on the way she spends most of her time staring at my bed in Whiterun, that she wanted me to herself, and was too torn up to attend my big day.

Despite a few texture issues here and there this is massively impressive.

Climb those 7000 steps and when almost at the top you'll be able to see Whiterun.

That's really very good.

Another great moment and general fun times. I'll spoiler this as, although it's not a main quest, it's some fun Radiant AI/random occurance that I took advantage of...

On the road ahead there's three people walking. I try to speak to one he ignores me, babbling about being late or similar. Then I over hear them talking that they're going to a wedding and have "all these gifts". They're closing in on the nearby village so I weigh up the situation...it's a no brainier.

I take out the bodyguard first - his first words are "be careful with that weapon" as I draw my huge sword in front of him. Within a minute he and the two in his charge are dead.

Looting their corpses does indeed bring decent trinkets. Some lovely jewerely pieces! All in all a good minutes work...

Yet that isnt quite enough. I feel kind of guilty leaving these corpses on the road, and were right next to a river...

That Firebolt spell is a wonder - using it to smash the bodies into the water is a rare joy and seeing them float away is most satisfying. I feel like I've covered up my crime, and the game let me do it. Brilliant.

Doing the quest for

Azuras Star

and came up against a really tough necromancer enemy that healed when her hp dropped to about a quarter. Had to chop her up then use a shout to freeze her so she could be chopped some more as she's standing up. I made it harder by wanting to swallow her soul!!!(soul trap)

After about 10 deaths to her overpowered kamahame ice blasts to my face, I realised I had an axe with soul trap built in

Still took about 5 attempts with that mind as I'd put all my 1 handed talents into swords. Got her soul in the end the bitch. I spat on her naked body after I'd violated it*

*nicked her stuff

I didnt absorb any words.

The mission was to get the claw.

Oh god, unless I'm being stupid, or that just seems to a bit silly.

So I have to absorb some kind of word which has nothing to do with my main objective?

When you get close to one of the walls that holds a Thu'um, the music will play the chanting barbarians to let you know something is there. The closer you get to the wall to absorb the Thu'um, the louder the chanting, and also the word in question will start to glow. Not sure how you missed all that.

However, I never took the claw quest as such, but the court-wizzard in Whiterun sent me to retreive the tablet at the end of the dungeon, and I just returned the claw afterwards, not knowing that that was a quest in itself.

I've got two arrows sticking out of me in third person view, that I can't get rid of. Are they stuck there forever now? They look stupid. One in my head, and the other sort of hovering along side me.

This happened to me once early on in the game, but they disappeared over time.

Consider it a rite of passage, you got shot at and lived to tell about it. :eyebrows:

Should anyone ever be interested it looks like you can extract your 360 save files for Skyrim and use them on the PC version should you ever want to pick it up later for mod support or just want to switch over for whatever reason.

I tested it today and it works.

Copy the save to your 360 Formatted USB Drive. Open with Modio. Click open from device locate the save file and open it. Click the file contents tab. Extract savegame.dat rename to savegame.ess and put it into your Skyrim save game location.

The mission to get the claw on it's own is a mission the trader in redwood gives you, the companion mission is another mission. I think either you don't have the companion version or you have the wrong one set on your quest line. Double check that you have the companion quest set.

I am such a soft hearted wuss.

Here I was planning to do the dark brotherhood at some point and I feel bad just extorting money out of shop keepers for the Thieve's guild

The only games I ever managed to play a bad guy was KOTOR and that's only because force lightening is too cool to pass up

Lol me too, my sneaky dark elf thief, hasn't stolen a single item, but has freed every prisoner etc he comes across or helped every person in distress. Ah well!

Loving the atmosphere up in the mountains! You can see that they are right up against the technical limitations of the 360 but its pretty incredible what they have squeezed out of it.

On PC you can go to console and type 'exchange' twice to get rid of them. Otherwise they go away in time, you can try removing all arrows from your inventory too.

I also play as a sickeningly good person as well. Although recently I've been breaking into houses at night and rearranging furniture. Maybe stealing the odd trinket. And of course going and checking on the person sleeping, just to be extra creepy. Except the other night I was in a house and as I crept into the bedroom I heard someone coming and had to hide in the corner. And then the son of the woman sleeping came in and stood by the side of the bed, saying nothing, staring at his dozing mother. And he just stood there... for ages. I actually went and made a sandwich and a cup of coffee, and when I came back he was still standing there, staring at mummy sleeping. There's some odd people around.

Anyone know how to switch off the UI for a screenie on the PC?

Afaik you can't just switch it off with a key, but I have the compass turned off at all times anyway, makes exploring all the more fun. The command is in the skyrimprefs.ini

My god, last nights adventures were BLEAK. I had decided to make my way north west of Whiterun, to try and do a couple of quests. I hired a dark elf who was hanging about in The Drunken Huntsman for backup. We set off and immediately spied some giants and mammoths around a huge fire.

Having had a previous encounter with a giant in a forest the other day (only room me 20 hours to run into one!!) I was confident I could take one down, but 2 plus mammoths? I checked my inventory, quaffed some potions and poisoned my bow, and waited for the right moment.

The first one went down without even seeing us properly. The second one made it over and started smashing my partner, leaving me free to toast him in the head from the top of a nearby rock. However, after the fight I seemed to have hit a bug, as my partner was stuck in 'almost dead' mode and crawling around everywhere :(

After a reload, the fight went much the same. My oartber recovered but this time the second giant continued to make breathing noises even though he was quite definitely dead. We had a bit of a scare trying to kill the mammoths (thank god for trees!) but eventually pressed on.

I was trying to find an altar high in the mountains, and since I'm no longer using the compass, I was using the map for navigation. We eventually stumbled into a place called labyrinth (I think) which looked the part. It turned out to be a bit too much for us though. I suppose the violent snow storm should have given me warning.

My partner was murdered fairly swiftly by a pair of ice trolls. (Or maybe it was the ice bolts that had remained stuck in her since an encounter woth a mage about half an hour ago) I spent the next 20 minutes running away from them, realised whittling them down wasn't working (do they regent health?) And found a door to someplace.. cant remember the name, somebody's maze or something. I got lost. Very lost. Chased by scary ice wraiths. I was fast running out of items and ammo for my bow.

I eventually escaped, and tried to take a good look at my map to figure out where this altar actually was. Turns out it was back the way I came a bit, so happily left the scary place behind and started climbing a snowy hill. The weather cleared and revealed meteors in the sky, wub.

I climbed and climbed, eventually reaching a summit. And a dragon. Weep. He killed me as I tried to quickly absorb the dragon shout on the wall behind him.

And that's where I have to pick up from tonight. Am gonna grab it and run. Can't wait :D

You get the boost just by opening it. Is there any way to

know which books give skill boosts before opening?

As well as having a value of 50, skill books also have embossed covers.

How do I rename weapons? I'm on PS3...

There is an option to do this in the enchanting screen just before you press x or equivalent to create the item - annoying if you miss it.

I just walked into some random cave near Riften and was attacked by a load of fire summoned thingies and several mages. It was a blood bath and yet at level 18 I would have thought I could handle that sort of battle! Any tips?

If they are predominantly fire mages you could chug some fire resist potions and get in their faces with a weapon enchanted with shock - this will deplete their magicka.
