Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

I really enjoyed the hike up I the Graybeards. Very atmospheric. Then I had I haul ass in the opposite direction for miles. So I fast travelled.

I agree with Majora. The end game is what keeps me playing... I'll get to a certain point and then wander off and do quests if I think I'm about done.

That's really interesting. I've also read the gods got a little upset with their behaviour as being too uppity for their own good. They certainly left some interesting relics behind...

Somehow all the Elder Scrolls history and lore seem much more vivid and accessible in this game.

Those of you that have completed the Forbidden Legends quest, would you agree that

Gauldur's Amulet is a complete waste of time. His sons caused such destruction with it the High King was called in? What, the region couldn't handle them being able to maintain a novice level fire spell for six seconds more than usual?

The quest was really nicely laid out, but having fought all three sons in their arenas, then fighting their goddamn ghosts again, I was expecting at least 100% faster magic regeneration or something.

I found one of the standing-stones-perk really helps me in times of trouble, which lets me raise the dead around me to fight for me. In one particular dungeon I ended up with 15 walking corpses willing to fight for me. :omg:

Excellent! Where do I find that?

The reward doesn't always feel worth it in some quests - but I didn't mind too much in this case as the dungeons were so good in the Gauldur's quest chain. Well worth seeking out...

this Ps3 slowdown bug is really beginning to screw the game up for me now. My save game size is up to 10mb and within an hour of play it's pretty much slideshow city in any town...

I'm exactly the same.

Loving the game so far. After freely roaming around the world not following any quests for about 40 hours, I decided to get into the meat of it and start knocking down the main quest path. Sadly my decision to do this comes at a time when my save game is so bloated that I'm playing a slide show within minutes of the game loading. I coped with it for a few hours last night, until I had to make the walk from Solitude to Riften. I managed as far as Ivansted before giving up the ghost. The frame rate is stuttering along, getting down as far as 1 frame per 2 seconds.

:(

I don't know what to do now. One option would be to start again and not collect anything to try to stop the save from bloating. But I'm a hoarder, I need to collect and scavenge.

Bethesda have acknowledged the issue and pledged to fix it, but how long it'll take and whether they can actually do it without costing us our save games is another matter entirely...

360 wins again!

I've just picked up a load of books to take home and read later on with a glass or wine/beer/ whatever I've got on the go. Should be an enjoyable break from slaying.

Also I've gone back on my "Magic is ace!" thoughts; while it can be useful I've found charged in with my Dwarven War Axe, with burny damage on it, and delivering double handed blows takes down most enemies in short order. In comparison I end up dead if I try to use my destruction magic as often.

Charging in it is then!

really shocked that people find the "lore" in these games interesting. it's like Lord of the Rings fanfiction. have you no standards?

Oh bloody hell Crispin, can't you bugger off back to your own threads then if it's all causing you so much offence that folk are actually enjoying the damn thing?

Some of the random sentences that guards say, don't always work. For example, I killed a dragon outside one of the cities with the help of about 5 or 6 guards. As soon as it dies, one of the guards says, "Typical. My brother is away fighting dragons, and I'm stuck here on guard duty."

Erm... :facepalm::lol:

Check the weapons shops periodically - they usually sell a few enchanted items - don't worry what level the enchantment is or what the item it's on is, if you find a useful one such as fire damage just scrape together the coin, buy it and hotfoot it to a mage to disintegrate that shit to learn the enchantment which you can then apply to any weapon. You will also find stuff for free in chests and be given it as quest rewards so the number of possible enchantments you have access to - offensive, defensive, fortifying attributes and skills will rapidly grow.

Moreover, breaking down and building up stuff will level up your enchanting skill in no time.

You will also need filled soul gems to complete an enchantment so always pick these up (purple looking crystals) if you find them, whether full or empty. Refilling them requires you to trap souls, which is another possible weapon enchantment, or you can learn a spell.

Thanks! :)

Shocked? Really?

well yeah. it's not like i have an inherent dislike of this subject matter, it's just handled so poorly. the writing is stilted and wooden even by videogame standards. and stop acting like a bunch of fucking babies because i'm criticising your sacred cow. i had a lot of fun with the game too, but actually finding this sub-Dan Brown drivel engrossing is endemic of the compromises people make with videogames

It's just a case of getting enough destruction magicka cost redution to be able to spam dual casted spells. Currently I can cast about 18 or 19 charged Incinerates, which on the default difficulty kill normal enemies in one or two hits, and bosses/dragons in about 15-20 seconds - usually without being able to do anything due to the impact stun perk. Master difficulty seems to have tripled everyones health and fighting dragons is now a bit more epic again (like the good old days when I using flames on them :D). It's still a bit too easy, but it's added some challenge while still making me feel powerful, which is nice.

My normal incinerate costs 7 or so magicka if anyone wants a reference point. That will decrease even more as I don't have 100 destruction skill yet though. I'm also hoping there is a +enchanting recipe I can squeeze a little more out of enchants.

I hardly read any of the books that you can find, unless it's for a skill boost. And then you don't have to actually read the thing to do it.

I find the game world interesting, the lore less so. But it's nice to know it's there, kind of in the background, that the world has some sort of history. It goes some way to making me believe that the world hasn't just popped into existence when I start my own adventure.
