How are you supposed to do the fighting in this game? Magic in one hand, axe in the other, spam spam spam - is that the right way?

I'm having trouble distinguishing between enemies I can take out easily and ones I should leave well alone. Last night I finally decided to have a go at a dragon and ended up killing it with puny arrows, taking no damage at all. Then another one spawned in the same place and I offed it the exact same way. But when I go in a dungeon or cave, I get annihilated by little insect things in about half a second.

Crispin, did you do the mages/thieves guilds? They're pretty awesome by all.accounts, and have their own mini 'stories' to play through.

And dude, I know you don't post very often in Discussion but people are gay for spoilers here - myself included - so please try to keep em behind tags.

To be fair it's really hard to spoilrr things in this thread because everyone can do things in different orders.. ifs not like everyone will see the same shit in the same way.

It's not about being "gay" for spoilers - the guy came in here and posted the fucking ending to the game...

Sadly its true, currently dragons are easier than bears . Infact theyre easier than those gunk spitting chitinous bastads which are quite tough actually. I`m about level 20 but surely and like I say its still a challenge against other enemies. Especially when you find a challenging magic user like the bird witches .

Is there any reason that I`m hoarding lots of really heavy Dewmer dwarven metal parts and objects? I`m one of those loot obsessives and its got to be a real problem when lots of the objects you find weigh up to 25 each!

How do I find/learn more weapon enchantments, btw? I don't have a single offensive one yet.

You learn enchantments by de-enchanting magic items at an enchanting table. It destroys the item, but then you can use that enchantment going forward.

I did that quest, helping out the jester.

That's a Dark Brotherhood quest? How did you find out? I suppose he is wearing their colours. Creepy fucker.

Damn, I helped the jester, too. I want to kill Dark Brotherhood, not join them!

Also, this light effect when you look at the sky is beginning to irritate me. A lot. What the hell was Bethesda thinking? It should be more subtle, my eyes are killing me.

yeah, i'm the Arch Mage of Winterhold now. i didn't bother with the Thieves' Guild quest line but it just feels moot now that the main bit is done. like going back to a Zelda game to collect all the spiders or something. maybe this is just how western RPGs work, i dunno; this is the first time i've really bothered with one. i thought both Morrowind and Oblivion sucked ass.

i figured a child could predict the end boss based on the game's marketing and plot, but my apologies if i spoiled anything

I don't know much of the 'Lore' of th Scrolls games, but have Dwarves been dead for centuries or something?

I only ask because I found this bloody brilliant dwarf ruin in a cave, and out sprang some sort of huge gold robot thing!

That was bloody cool.

Incredibly lighting on that area too.

The main quest is usually the least interesting and least worth bothering with part of the game Crispin. It's not bad in this, but you're missing the actual game to a large extent if you plough through the main quest and then stop.

i will give it another shot. i was just surprised it was over so fast because i started working on my one hand weapon skill with a conjured sword about 30 minutes beforehand, and actually used that to defeat the end boss fairly easily.

Sorry if this has been asked before but has anyone had their Book Depository hardback guide sent to them yet? The money went out of my account ages ago but still nothing.

Still waiting for mine too.. I ended up buying the bog standard version while I wait

Order is still stating "awaiting publication". I'm just taking comfort in the fact that they haven't actually cancelled the order. So assume they must still be expecting sufficient stock.

Ι would prefer if the main quest was bigger, too. It's logical to be dissapointed by a small main quest in a game with such a vast world, precisely because you want most of the world to be involved in this epic story. Most people will probably miss a lot of stuff because they don't play this game the way we do, and I can understand that.

With so much money spent on this game, a 60h main story should be the minimum for me.

For people who just like exploring and side questing, this won't be a problem though.

There are no dwarves in any elder scrolls games, sadly. Also, I read that the dwarves are actually a different race of elves, so they may not be your typical fantasy dwarves even if they do eventually show up in game. I do like their armour though. My nord warrior (level 24, 75 in blocking, 65 in one handed weapons, 50 in heavy armour) is rocking the dwarven armour set, shield and sword. Looks badass tbh.

I've got 2 games on the go and in 1 of them I've decided to avoid doing the main quest entirely because I find the shouts next to useless (mostly) and the dragons really annoying (not hard, just I'd prefer them to be rare, rather than appearing whenever you fast travel or head into the mountains). I'd have probably done the same in my other game but it's too late now.

Dwarf history spoiler:

Tamriel's "dwarves", the Dwemer aren't Tolkienesque Dwarves, they're another race of Elves, the "deep elves". they were the first elves in Tamriel from which all the others came (like the Nords were Tamriel's first humans) but the all mysteriously disappeared at the same time hundreds of years ago. They seem to have been in possession of much more advanced technology than the other elven species, and refered to as "Dwarves" because they were friends of the giants, and were the same size as regular elves. you meet the last of them in Morrowind at some point, he's trying to find out what happened to his people.

The Firebally shout has saved my arse a couple of times with it's raw power - and the freeze one is awesome!

Alot of times in dungeons, I forget that I am sneaking and forget to un-sneak when a proper battle starts.

I found one of the standing-stones-perk really helps me in times of trouble, which lets me raise the dead around me to fight for me. In one particular dungeon I ended up with 15 walking corpses willing to fight for me. :omg:

Just go exploring to the next 'black' icon on the compass. You've probably seen about 10% of the game :)

I can understand where Crispin is coming from. Some people just need an 'ultimate goal' to aim for, including myself. I know damn well that the exploring, the separate guilds quests and the side missions are far more substantial and probably higher quality than the main quest, but the carrot of the main quest provides an incentive to keep improving and investing. If you complete the main quest early on it's probably easy to wonder what you're improving your weapons and skills for, since the overall aim, the glue holding everything together, has gone. That's why in games like this and Fallout I try to do everything I can before finishing the story.

I like a game to have something of a resolution too, even if it dumps you back into the gameworld afterwards. Finish the quest early on and you never really get a resolution to anything, you just eventually stop playing.

YOU WHAT?! :o

Must find...

I keep hearing things/finding things while playing that make me like it more. That's the awesomeness of it. It keeps on giving.

How do I find/learn more weapon enchantments, btw? I don't have a single offensive one yet.

Check the weapons shops periodically - they usually sell a few enchanted items - don't worry what level the enchantment is or what the item it's on is, if you find a useful one such as fire damage just scrape together the coin, buy it and hotfoot it to a mage to disintegrate that shit to learn the enchantment which you can then apply to any weapon. You will also find stuff for free in chests and be given it as quest rewards so the number of possible enchantments you have access to - offensive, defensive, fortifying attributes and skills will rapidly grow.

Moreover, breaking down and building up stuff will level up your enchanting skill in no time.

You will also need filled soul gems to complete an enchantment so always pick these up (purple looking crystals) if you find them, whether full or empty. Refilling them requires you to trap souls, which is another possible weapon enchantment, or you can learn a spell.

That's really interesting. I've also read the gods got a little upset with their behaviour as being too uppity for their own good. They certainly left some interesting relics behind...

Somehow all the Elder Scrolls history and lore seem much more vivid and accessible in this game.

I'm really hoping Bethesda do something they couldn't/didn't with Fallout 3 and New Vegas, as this Ps3 slowdown bug is really beginning to screw the game up for me now. My save game size is up to 10mb and within an hour of play it's pretty much slideshow city in any town...

I tell you what's a bit daft in this game; that you can't pay a blacksmith to make you some armour or improve your weapons, and that you have to do it yourself. I've got the bits, but my skills are too low. :(

Same goes for enchanting and alchemy too
