Nah, I fast travelled a lot in Fallout and I'm fast travelling a reasonable amount in this. When I've just finished a 2 hour long dungeon halfway across the map from my house and I'm a few points below my carry limit, I just want to go straight back to my house in Whiterun. The game would probably last literally months if you travelled everywhere on foot/horse.

Plus, sometimes I don't want any more distractions. For me, the weakness of this 'constant stream of quests and locations' approach is that you often lose the context of why you're doing anything and it all becomes a haze of dungeons, loot and random people who you met 15 hours ago. If a quest sounds interesting I sometimes fast travel to or near the location while everything is still fresh in my mind.

Don't get me wrong there is still a time and a place for fast travel, it's just that compared to Fallout 3 etc I'm using it far far less (and actually strangely feel guilty when I do).

In fact the only time I've really used it so far was to get to the Mages College, and this was only after 4 previous nights of setting off with the intention of getting there on foot, only to end each session not even having left the Whiterun area!

I soon realised Fast Travel was the only valid option if I ever actually wanted to reach the place! :)

I've become very attached to both Lydia and Allie, my horse. I actively go out of my way to make sure they're ok when I go places and if Lydia doesn't turn up to a dungeon with me (no idea why, just happens sometimes), I feel a little sad. She's my adventuring buddy.

Also, my horse is the best horse ever. She kicked a dragon INNA FACE! She also has a habit of wondering off. I ride to a dungeon, go into said dungeon and come out to find she's buggered off somewhere. I usually end up walking/fast travelling back from places as a result but it's ok. I don't get mad. She's an adventurer like me :).

Early Companion quest.

The Silver Hand. Oof! I keep getting my ass handed to me by The Skinner. I think I might come back later when I've leveled up a bit more. Shame, as I wanted to become a...

werewolf.

Spoilers within spoilers!

I had this problem as it was one of the first quests that I attempted, basically I sneaked it by staying in the corridor/tunnel that leads into the arena where they are, firing a arrow and then legging it back up and hiding behind some bins. Yeah, not heroic, but it got the job done.

Question about the Companion Quests...

When you go to the under thing and they turn you into a werewolf. Are there any downsides to that? Its early in the game and I'm not sure if I want to. Is it just a spell that you can activate should you need to?

Anyone been to the Eldergleam Sanctuary? I've just got there.

Wow! Love the way it suddenly opens out after you've ventured in a little bit. Pretty spectacular. Like a little underground forest. And then as you round the corner where there's a rope bridge, there's some bloke just dipping his toes in the water, "Oh hi buddy, welcome. Come chill out with us!" before getting up and sauntering off.

its about 3 or 4 companion quests in - you get a choice as to whether you want to become one or not - for me its great as it allows you to tank out for a couple of mins every game day comes in handy when going up against some of the tougher bosses. also it looks cool :) + if you transform when no one can see you then if you kill anyone no bounty as they dont know its you - only negative is that you dont get rest bonus when you sleep. there is also a cure but once taken i believe you cant become a werewolf again - i may be wrong on that but im sure others will peep up and say if you can become one again

It's randomised in some way, it was the first 'proper' quest once I had joined them.

 I just had soem quest, which started off with a drinking contest. Passed out, woke up in a temple. "What the hell?" I thought to my self. A priest scolded me and made me pick up my rubbish. Which was an empty wine bottle, a giants toe?. Turns out my parnet in crime had legged it with my staff for winning the contest.

So I track him down to a farm, but suprise he wasn't there. Talked to an angry farmer, who told me I stole his goat and sold it to a giant. Which I agreed to return it. I traveled not to far from the farm and found mister goat alive and well with the giant. He wasn't in a talking mood, so I stole the sheep back and legged it back to the farm with the goat I am now calling Binky boy. The farmer told I had stollen a ring for a women, sooooooooooooo I traveled to her location and said sorry.

She eneded up telling me the location of the man, which he was in a castle. The castle was full of mages I took them all down, because I am such a hard bastard. The marker led me to a corner of the room and "PUFF!" A portal appeared. So I said "Fuck it" and went in. I appeared in a nice location, followed the path to a party and the MAN! Who turned out to be the Daedric god!. I forget his name, it turns out he was just having fun and enjoyed my drunken adventure. I got a daefric item off him also.

Nice chap.

I was doing a quest in that area and was fighting my way out. As I came around where he was, just up from a bridge, he started to say hello to me, as an enemy hit him into the water, where he drowned. Now his body rests in the water :(

Bugger me, not sure whether this is true of all Giants, but this one let me get right up close. Just his heavy breathing was heard. He didn't do anything, just watched me. Rather cool, yet somewhat disturbing too! I was getting images of King Kong, and him scooping me up and either eating me or raping me.

I then actually coughed on him and he got all narky, so I legged it quick sharp.

Sorry.

:(

Colour me overexcited - I didn't mean to spoilt it. I think we all need to label our spoilers - I'm paranoid myself about clicking spoilers as I've no idea what they are.

Hey man, don't worry, for what its worth your enthusiasm for it rubbed off and I'm super excited to get to that point now. Especially since I'm a kajiit :)

All is forgiven matey :)

I think everyone got killed in that area when I did it. And largely, it was my fault for taking a cutting off the tree, and not heeding their warnings. I knew Bethesda would be far too cynical to let the chilled out atmosphere continue to exist. There's nearly always some horrible twist. :)

Best location in the game for me. Absolutely stunning, and a lovely surprise to find that inside a initially generic cave

Oh and another thing - I was bimbling over to some lovely looking ruined keep and an Assasin turned up. Very almost kicked my arse - there was a not on his body about the Dark Brotherhood paying to have me killed. And that they won't stop until I am dead.

Woah !

I've been playing this as a good guy. No robbing, no murdering. I'm not sure whose toes I've trodden on.

That's why, if you have good 'karma' (it seems this is tracked somewhere, but not shown to the player) then they come after you.

Earlier this evening I went for a wee explore around the ice floes north of Winterhold. What a dramatic landscape.

Hmm I recently had a second assassin come after me and I've been murdering on the sly...
