Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

This is pretty much how I've played it since release, and I've only clocked 9 hours so far. It suits me fine, because it works as a dip in and out kind of game, even though I'm often tempted to do much longer sessions.

Ah great news. After reading about everyone putting in 40 hours so far I was getting worried!

remember - there's always another Sky themed game out tomorrow...

Not on PS3 there's not! ;)

Does this make any sense....?

I'm wary of clearing out caves and forts etc. too early on in case they're needed for side quest locations later.

E.g. I stumbled across Broken Tower Redoubt last night and went through to the end killing all enemies only to find a jail cell with a strong bandit needing to be killed to get the key. When I opened the cell it was empty with no 'pay off' for the dungeon or anything really.

I'm thinking I may have burned a possible quest by entering the fort early and slaughtering everyone before I activated a quest.

I wouldn't worry about it. "Proper" quests can usually be completed ahead of time, so it's unlikely you'll miss anything in that sense. Dungeons also repopulate over time, so the randomised quests can go on infinitely whether you've cleared a dungeon previously or not.

Can anyone help me with the following Tolfdir (Alteration guy from College of Mages) quest:

He asked me to get some dragon heart scales. To do this I needed to get a knife and somehow use it on a dragon I come across to get them. I've got the dagger and I've killed 2 dragons but not been able to get the scales. I've tried swiping them with it while alive (this is dangerous when you're a pure mage and you're fighting an elder dragon!) and when dead to no avail. I'm sure I'm missing something easy and obvious but can't find anything about it elsewhere on the internet. There is no map marking now that I've got the dagger (or if there is I can't find it).

People who have completed the game SPOILER question:

uh. I just did a quest in the land of the dead to kill the dragon boss. It took about 3 minutes, and now the "main quest" appears to be done. is that... it?

did I just complete the game? I feel quite shortchanged!

Early Companion quest.

The Silver Hand. Oof! I keep getting my ass handed to me by The Skinner. I think I might come back later when I've leveled up a bit more. Shame, as I wanted to become a...

werewolf.

Spoilers within spoilers!

I was a

werewolf.

When I did that quest.

Crispin, couldn't you have spoilered that?

i guess.

I don't think it's a spoiler, though, unless you're surprised the end boss is a dragon.

Seriously, i've barely done anything; I'm not even level 20. can't believe that's it - i thought this game was meant to last me months? i only got it a few days ago :/

Two quick questions before I maybe head into town and pick this up:

How buggy is it on 360? I put about 150 hours into Fallout 3 and only encountered a handful of major bugs, certainly not enough to hamper my enjoyment of the game. Is this comparable?

And

If I start as a thief will I get my arse kicked?

I'm playing on the PC. But I've been reading this thread since the release and I've not heard of any major bugs. The only one I've seen was some guy kept having a blade appear as his weapon, so he had to leave it at home.

As a thief you definitely won't get your arse kicked either, no.

The importance of perks in this shouldn't be underestimated. I had put a far few into magery and some into enchantment - its taken me until about level 11 to put some into my Heavy Armour. In one fell swoop my armour is 40% more affective. That's really saved my skin; and my penchant for double handed weapons is also reaping rewards from its 20% damage bonus - soon again to be 40.

If you decide to go down a perk route of all non combat perks you're likely to be smashed to bits!

Question; it you dismiss Lydia can you ever get her back? She's wearing a nice horned helm I found for her, while brandishing a nice double hander bastard sword I found.

No you're right, saying what the final boss is and where you meet it is definitely not a spoiler.

Can someone who's seen the post already report it/call the mods to spoiler it then please?

Ive had the game completely freeze up, had to turn the 360 off as the controller wouldnt go to dashboard etc.

This has happened about 6 times, looking online it's happening to others alot too but some people have completed the game on 360 with no bugs, so bit of a lottery i guess.

Maybe if you did some more stuff it'd last longer?

jesus, calm down, nerds. i didn't steal your precious. i figured since i'm a casual player you'd all have done this ages ago. i only play it for a couple of hours a day.

Quite a common thing for people to do while playing this is almost completely ignore the main quest. Considering there's a few hundred hours worth of other stuff to do that's not unreasonable. My first character got about halfway through the main quest before wandering off to do other things. My current character stopped at the Greybeards.

So if I delete the game install from my 360, will I see an improvement in game textures? I've already cleared the cache...

Ta

Yeah. For example when I uninstalled my copy I could suddenly read shop and road signs. Before they were just a blur.

Wow - had no idea it could be that pronounced. Thanks for that :)

To be honest it was just little things. Like the signs and the odd texture here and there. Most of the time I never noticed it at all. It actually seemed more pronounced during the intro at Helgen. Especially inside the keep with the stone textures.

*Edit* And your hands for some reason.

Just seen that the entrance "exam" for the mages guild is random - just another little detail in this massive game.

I assumed it would be based on whatever magic skill you had the highest level in. My highest was conjuration and I was asked to summon a flame atronach.

On a similar note, I just got Summon Storm Atronach. Fook yes!
