That's the first puzzle, the book on the dead scholar gives you the positions / locations of the pillars. I am talking about the next puzzle, involving the claw.

If it involves a claw, go into your inventory, and look at the 3D model of the claw. Sometimes the room also gives the same clue but not always.

Loving the game when it plays well but I have just had it freeze up completely 3 times in a row now (on 360, all other games work fine on it).

With Zelda coming out tommorow I'm thinking about trading this in (and writing this off as a faulty game) for some cash off Zelda.

Such a shame as it's really immersive etc but having to get up and reset the 360 multiple times just to finish one quest is putting a dampner on proceedings.

The Saadia quest...

So I found the Kematu chap; one of the battles before talking to him in the cave was epic.

Getting better with arrows I took out one of the bandits only for the rest to charge. I burned up half of them and then turned with my sword to take down another two.

Theres only two left now and just as I am taking down one of them the other, battling with Lydia, seems to gain an advantage - I hear her cry "No more!" and go down on one knee...I turn to frantically engage the final bandit and strike...death strike! RAAAAAAA double handed sword right up into his guts Take that yeeeeeahhhhh!

I'd saved Lydia, and thus saved my having to do two trips to sell all the loot.

Well I meet Kematu. He informs me of Saadia's betrayal. I agree to his terms, to deliver her to the stables.

Back to Whitrun and I enter the Bannered Mare to find her. Firstly I beat a woman in a fist fight though, ace.

Saadia buys my story that she needs to get out of the city so we make our way to the stables outside.

Kematu is there and casts a paralysis spell on her. He thanks me and gives me my reward, a good chunk of gold. Job done...

Except it is the dead of night. No one is around. A quick search backs this up...usually they're tilling th fields or similar but they're all in bed...

I blindside Kematu with a fire bolt as Lydia and my dog tear into him. He takes a bit of beating yet goes down relatively easily. His corpse is looted, another 150 gold...and I turn to Saadia.

She's still paralysed on the floor. Twitching. I cant search her so there's only one thing for it. I double blast her with lightning. Now her corpse is searchable! A decent ring on her too.

My super duper duplicitous murders complete I head back into town to await the shops opening and sell some of my recently looted items.

Not a bad day all in all :)

I know that technical issues are boring, but:

I have been testing the "low textures" problem on 360. I get the nasty low textures whatever I do. I have played from disc, HDD and USB stick and I have cleared the cache each time too. It's always the same low textures, compared to videos and screenshots from other people who successfully get the correct textures from the disc.

I wonder if older Xbox 360s have a smaller cache or other technical inferiorities? I have an old Arcade unit from 2008. Did Bethesda make the game for newer 360s? I have no understanding of how a patch would fix this.

I'm trying to enjoy the game anyway. It's an amazing game! But some of you guys who are quick to neg me and say, "Just enjoy the game, stop moaning!" would probably admit to the disappointment of the game world being spoiled this way.

It's an amazing game. If you go looking (testing) for problems you will find them. Are you happier for having carried out your tests? I'd suggest that you've just wasted your time and made yourself a bit sad.

If this game is one thing it's a gamers game. A game that proper gamers only really understand. I can imagine someone not familiar with RPGs seeing an ad so giving it a go and getting to the first NPC, thinking WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT and quitting before having the chance to get deep into it.

A game so involving that it puts most other games to shame, RPG or not, and proper gamers can see through all the issues because behind them all is a game like no other.

I'm half-tempted to buy it on PC so I can play it at work.

they're working on a patch for it.

Does this make any sense....?

I'm wary of clearing out caves and forts etc. too early on in case they're needed for side quest locations later.

E.g. I stumbled across Broken Tower Redoubt last night and went through to the end killing all enemies only to find a jail cell with a strong bandit needing to be killed to get the key. When I opened the cell it was empty with no 'pay off' for the dungeon or anything really.

I'm thinking I may have burned a possible quest by entering the fort early and slaughtering everyone before I activated a quest.

Man I really can't stop thinking about this stupid game!!! even people at work have commented that this is the most obsessed they've seen me.

I've got too many active quests.. it's a bit overhlwhelming. I spent my hour this morning leaving Riften after some smithing, had a ridiculous cat and mouse battle with a single mage/necromancer who was guarding the shadow stone (gives the same perk as the thief sign from oblivion, fact fans) then fast traveled to Whiterun (I'd planned on walking but the mage battle was traumatic - its so hard without Lydia!).

In Whiterun I raided my one chest for smithing items, got fed up with only having one cupboard so went and pimped up the house.

This all took 20 mins. I spent the rest of the the hour arranging my newly kitted out

house

I LOVE YOU BETHESDA.

Don't worry about it :)

This used to happen in Fallout 3, so I'm a bit wary too. I seem to remember I cleared out a whole factory, and then later got the quest to clear it out. I found one cave with a bloke sat outside who asked me to help him clear it out, so that sort of thing is fair game, but anything else I think it's probably best to wait until you get the quest to go there.

I've done pretty much nothing but random dungeons so far with no thought to plot progression. Last night I tried to place some items I'd picked up, but hadn't appeared in my inventory when I'd been selling loot earlier, in chest in a house I own and the game wouldn't let me, saying quest items cannot be stored. So it seems to me that the game protects you from mucking anything up in this way.

I've not played a game like this since Zelda on the N64. My main worry is that I won't have enough time to give to it - as I will only be able to play it around 5 hours a week. Is that enough time?

I have an evening tonight where i can play it for 2-3 hours, so am really tempted to pick this up on the way home. Need a decent single player game, as my Internet is poor at the moment so can't really play online!

A lot of the quests are dynamic and as such shift to locations you haven't yet visited :)

I also spend alot of time at work thinking bout the game, really great stuff!

proper gamers can see through all the issues because behind them all is a game like no other.

I agree that the game is amazing but if it won't actually play for me (i.e it keeps freezing on a 360 with barely anything on the memory) I can't see throught that because I can't play it :(

I would consider myself a 'proper' gamer of 20+ years but struggling with reloads and glitches in a big release like this is very dissapointing.

I wouldn't worry about it. Some of the quests are in randomised locations based on places you've not been to yet - I've been sent to Broken Tower on a quest to kill a bunch of people, but the way it was presented it was obvious that it could have been in a variety of places, as there was no dialogue telling me where to go.

This is pretty much how I've played it since release, and I've only clocked 9 hours so far. It suits me fine, because it works as a dip in and out kind of game, even though I'm often tempted to do much longer sessions.

Not enough time... You need to average 6 - 7 hours a day..

I made a bit of a gaff last night. I just wanted to finish the companion quest to get the Fragment of Rhubarb and then go to bed. Emerging from the dungeon with my encumberance at 1538 out of 340(!!), I decided I'd waddle back to Whiterun with Farkas and complete the quest. So, moving slowly (but with bow out and arrow drawn to speed me up a little), I eventually got back to the companion hall and finished the quest.**

"Really should go to bed now, but I'll just sell my loot and dump some in my house first..."

On the way there, though, still carrying 1538/340, I popped into the Bannered Mare, and guess which drinking contest I went ahead and triggered......So, yeah, I'm now

zillions of miles from home, massively encumbered with quite a bit of loot I want to keep, lost and confused but man, I've never woken up with a hangover to such an amazing sight as Makarth before!

.

** When I finished the Fragment of Wubblydub quest, I was told to see MUMBLE MUMBLE if I wanted a better weapon. Who's name did I mishear, there? Was it the Companion's blacksmith? Because, I heaved my loot all around Jorravskar, and up to his forge without finding the bugger. Twice.

I'm silly, I get encumbered lke that a LOT. Moving at full speed is an exhilerating and rare treat for me. :)
