Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Completely depends where abouts you are, really. I've gone ages (tens of minutes) without seeing anything that attacked me.

Yeah, if anything, I feel I've been attacked less out in the field than when I played Oblivion. They seem to have got the balance between fighting and exploring about right. No more running across the world with a conga line of bears, wolves and whatever else chasing you.

I had some text yesterday in a loading screen that mentioned 'Mage Armour' perk, however I couldn't see it in the skills list screen. I can see Light Armour and Heavy Armour but no Mage Armour. Having a quick look I couldn't see it as a sub set of either of those two. Does it exist?

As said already it's a perk in the Alteration tree. Be really careful about deciding to take it though as by far the best hats in the game, both in terms of looks and stats, are light/heavy armor and so make the perk pointless. I'm also not sure if there are any non-armor gloves which is another place you might miss out on stats. Then again the best chest items for mages are robes so it works both ways. Personally I've put 3 points in the perk but I really wish I could reassign them now.

Had my first really quite tough bastard to kill after stumbling into a dungeon area. Not only did I have to face him running at me and smacking me in the much, there was also some bastard wizard zombie casting what I can only describe as an ice golem too. Cue a lot of unheroic smiting and running away (many, many times). Finally did it though, and got a nice shout, plus a quite cool ice sword to boot. Yay!

Finally got to the end of the Skyrim thread, having tried to catch up ever since Friday! Anyway, enjoying the game of course, but does anyone else find the map to be really rubbish? I mean, it looks nice and everything, but the cloud cover effect makes it difficult to see sometimes and most annoyingly you can't actually see the roads. I usually have the "cloth" map open all the time, just so I can navigate the road system.

Heh, I bought the guide the other day and it came with a big atlas poster and I have it stuck to the wall to the right of where I sit so I just have to glance around.

The manual is rubbish as well, even with the in game help system.

Absolutely amazing game though and to think I wasn't going to buy it  I have a new character started, a Khajiit thief who will be all about stealth and illusion. I found out quite by accident whilst playing a mage how much fun it is to hide in the shadows and cast spells to make bandits attack each other

Has anyone found any gauntlets or helmets that have increased archery enchantments? I am desperate to get hold of some so I can break them down and enchant my Dragon Plate gauntlets with it!

I got a + archery circlet from a chest by an end boss at about level 10. I'm guessing it's random what you get though? I'll look what dungeon it is later if not.

I've been shooting like in Oblivion aiming slightly above my target. So there's no need? I should be aiming directly where I want to shoot?

No, you need to aim above them at range, ballistics apply. There's no auto-aim at all as far as I've noticed.

Wait, I'm using M+K rather than controller, though I can't say I noticed auto-aim with the controller when I was using it. Maybe there is auto-aim on the 360 version, or maybe I'm missing something entirely (literally).

edit- hm apparently I'm sort of wrong  There is some sort of 'tilt-up' on shots with the bow. If you add this to your ini file it should disable that, it seems. Not sure if you would want to, though.

Open up Skyrim.ini in your MyGames/Skyrim folder.

Search for [Combat]

Add one or both of the following lines:

f1PArrowTiltUpAngle=0.0

f3PArrowTiltUpAngle=0.0

The first line is for first person. The second line is for third person.

They definitely went for something that looks cool over user friendliness. And in a strange way, it makes the world feel smaller somehow.

Are the houses in places other than Whiterun immediately available, or is it a similar situation where you need to help out a bit first before you can buy?

Heading off home soon to play, i've not been this eager to get a game loaded up since the days of Phantasy Star Online.

Anyone know if I'm gonna

Regret becoming a werewolf and getting in with the Companion posse?

It seemed fairly logical to carry on with the mission, but having not played other Scrolls games I have no idea if there's gonna be a price to pay?

The map is shite... And the paper one that comes with the game is useless as well. Got totally lost trying to find the grayheads and clairvoyant wasn't finding a path for me

You realise, of course, that in the days when Europe resembled the world of Elder Scrolls, those in Britain were speaking Gaelic, Old English and later Middle English, none of which closely resemble British English as it's spoken today?

No modern accent really makes sense, it's just conventions of TV and cinema that make us think everyone in mediaevalist fantasy should be British. Like when Brad Pitt tries to affect an English accent in Troy, when he's supposed to be an ancient Greek. Makes no sense whatsoever.

I think they should have cockney accents and wear flat caps.

I'm really enjoying this, but I generally skip the dialogue. I just have subs on and read them as fast as I can. In a game this size I don't have time to wait for the actors to reel off their lines. I only get about 30 mins play time a night.

As a sneaky assassin/archer type I'm not really sure what I should be focusing on in terms of Magicka, Health, Stamina each level up.

That's more or less how I'm playing, focusing on magic as I use destruction magic for close range and and some defensive spells. Stamina is only really of use to me because it increases carry limit, and I loot anything and everything. Otherwise it doesn't seem to be worth putting many points into.

Just a note on the character A.I. and mannerisms.

Ive hired a guy called Mauricio and not only is he a handy laser shooting chap, hes a good thing for a trip into a dungeon.

He backs the situation up by saying things like " Dont forget to keep looking back! you never know what might be following us! "

He also let out a sigh as I robbed a corpse and declared " I suppose you're going to take anything of value from this place? "

and , in one Cavern it opened up into a lake and waterfall. I just stood there watching it.

Mauricio stands there and says " Wow would you look at that, its amazing! "

VERY IMMERSIVE :)

Yup. I was doing the same as you at first and wondered why I was missing!!

If they're relatively close you need to aim lower to get an accurate headshot though, if they're really close you end up aiming for their chest and it arcs up right into their face.

As a sneaky assassin/archer type I'm not really sure what I should be focusing on in terms of Magicka, Health, Stamina each level up.

I've been splitting it between health and stamina, more stamina means more slow-mo zoom time which is always handy.

I've been getting horribly cocky today, approaching level 30 now and the wildlife doesn't really stand a chance. Killed a dragon in 3 shots earlier, managed to catch it sleeping and get a headshot with an Elven arrow + Poison + sneak multiplier. Then managed to stay hidden and get another sneak headshot in, the dragon crashed in front of me and I just had to loose the last one into its body to finish the job. Who needs magic, eh?

Sounds like you need to up the difficulty. :P

I'm playing on expert and I have only turn it down to adept when I had to fight a dragon all by myself. It's a nice challenge, that's for sure and it doesn't feel unfair (not that I go near any giant of course - his strikes makes my fragile mage fly uuuuuup in the air).

Still early days yet though, only lvl 18 because I'm taking my sweet time. :D

Does anyone know why it takes me multiple attempts to cast a conjure spell before it works?

As far as I know, you have to point at an enemy in order to work.
