Yup. There's only one drawback to it though and you'll probably never notice it. Plus the end of the Companion's quest line teaches you how to deal with the thing you're worried about anyway.

So you can remove the thing if you want?

As far as I can see, it is compulsory yes but maybe you should refuse and see what happens? It certainly has disadvantages, particularly the loss of fully rested perk and blood sucking action.

I did refuse, but it now seems I can't continue their main quest line, unless I say yes.

In other news: I turned actor draw distance up to maximum last night (most other settings are on the low end of high). It really added to the sense of the world being alive, just being able to see people and animals from a lot further away. Doesn't seem to have hit my game's performance very hard at all either.

I did this too and didn't notice any real performance changes, extremely useful if you're out in the wilderness relying on a keen eye and quick bow too!

Shoot them from distance and see how much health it takes off. If it kills them they're easy, if it hardly marks them, run!

I wish there was some way of differentiating between friend and foe from a distance. There are several "real characters" wandering around the wilderness (including town guards on courier missions occasionally), so you can't really just take out everyone on sight!

Everyone keeps talking about radiant quests. I thought that was just the system that generated random fetch me X miscellaneous quests. Does it also affect proper quests too in some way?

Yes, absolutely - this has only just now today really come home to me - no one else may have cause to visit Faldan's tooth to retrieve the thingie that Aela wanted - you might get to steal some papers from some other dungeon a hundred miles distant instead. It's a pretty awesome thing to contemplate.

My actor draw distance had been really low before I changed it, and things were constantly surprisng me. The minute I turned it up I saw a far off battle between guards and bandits, then another betwen conjurers and bandits. On the one hand it's brilliant, but, on the other, am I missing out on getting involved in these incidents? Naaaah, surely they'd be happening anyway, it's just that I couldn't see them previously, yeah?

I know it isn't ideal, but if you sneak up to hostile groups they usually turn to face you and give you a verbal warning before outright attacking you. Friendlies don't :)

You can always skulk off and sneak up on the baddies again after receiving a warning.

If I see someone in the distance, I always just quick save. Fire an arrow, wait for their name to pop up and anything resembling thug, assassin or silver hand gets another arrow to their chops.

The companions have offered to make me

bark at the moon

I've left it for just now but I'm sorely tempted to take them up on it.

As far as I can see the only reason not to go ahead with this is if you want to become a vampire at some stage. Sure, you miss the fully rested perk but that's not crucial.

I'm beginning to think that travelling with the horse is completely broken.

All the enemies go for it first, no matter what. Even when I'm throwing fireballs at them. I had to reload sometimes because the damn thing won't run away but stay and engage the enemy.

Is there a mod or something for this, because I don't know when Bethesda will release a patch?

Yes, that's what I thought - completing "the silver hand" is necessary for progressing on to "Blood's honour" via two radiant quests for Aela.

Are we certain that I can get rid of the thing in the end and become normal again?

I have totally given up on travelling by horse, or with any followers. The former because they are just too fragile, and the latter because they have a habit of messing up scripted events. I don't even know how anyone manages to successfully use stealth when being followed.

I have the PS3 version and was wondering if anyone else with the same had the issue I am having with it.

Basically, the longer I play the slower and more laggy it gets. It starts off nice and smooth, but after a few hours of play it starts stuttering. Sometimes I have whole textures go AWOL, replaced by a what looks like whitebox, except coloured blue/green. Eventually I restart the game and it works absolutely fine.

I seem to recall New Vegas did this for me too

Anyone been to Fallowstone Cave, to the northeast of Riften? I'm kind of stuck in there, mainly because I fell off a waterfall, and then had to battle about 15 spiders. Lydia stayed up top, rolling her eyes probably. I just can't seem to find a way back up. I could reload, but then my epic 15 spider fight would've been for nothing.

Nice little touch: That you can get visually different armour with exactly the same stats. There's even (at least) two subtly different styles of bog-standard "steel armour" - one with more steel in the shoulder/arms area than the other, but otherwise the same. I like that.

One thing that really bothers me about playing Khajiit is that any kind of helmet seems to chop off the ears, so I prefer Headbands. A higher level Light Armor perk requires me to wear a full matched set of Light Armor though, so I may have sacrifice style for praticality yet again.

Its also a little odd when some conversations don't take into account my race choice. The Girl who wants to be a merchant talks to me about what she thinks of the Khajiit & the Alchemy lady in Winterun said I "looked pale" (my Khajiit has black & white fur) though that last could be viewed as a pun.

Are there any quests that are affected by my race choice, as in either being locked off from or only available too?

I don't believe there is any variation in quest based on race.

It is disappointing there is no reaction to Kajiitness when the conversation is specifically referencing them or is with them (found a caravan near Riften). Even the insults are relatively lame.

I have a feeling the Winterun alchemist is a glitch - she always says she thinks I am ill but owing to my previous exploits that can no longer be the case.

This is why I always make a non quick/auto save before entering a new dungeon. You never know if it's going to be too difficult and if there is going to be an option to retreat until it's too late.
