Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Screenshots would be great, and you should be able to export them to Facebook or twitter or a blog site... Corruption let you take photos that were stored on you calendar, but the low images looked pretty rubbish...but games like this and RDR would be ideal for that kind of thing.

I don't seem to be able to ride my horse in the first person. It switches automatically to third. Is it like this for everyone? The horse-riding looks so terrible I don't know why they'd force you to see it.

yeap... No option. You can't fight while on one either so I just don't bother. Spoiled by the great horse riding in RDR.

Lol, this game goes from great to silly in a whim. It's dragon logic seems to be completely broken.

I can accept (barely) that because I'm dragonborn I can kill a dragon, but how on earth can mammoths kill a dragon? I mean, just fly and fry, what's the problem with that?

Dragons losing their epicness more and more...

Not being able to fire a bow and arrow or use a sword on horseback is the only annoying thing so far. Hoping I can get trained to do this later on.

Was starting to think I was an indestructible wizard-warrior with the old fireball/sword combo, then a giant came along, walloped me once with his club and I went flying 100 metres into the air!

After RDR's horses and horse gameplay this feels like a joke really.

But I didn't expect anything better from Bethesda in that area, so I'm not too bothered.

I'm more bothered from the shitty ui on pc, the lack of icons about spells duration, etc. and the greatly unoptimized engine.

Oh, and dragons which get owned by mammoths and giants when they can simply fly and fry them on the spot.

Ah right, I'm at that level but can't see them about. Where does it say what level they are, adept/novice etc?

I wish I could be more helpful... I can't remember if it mentions on the item itself. You can certainly tell from the price, Adept level spells are about 700 gold+.

Stuck in a loop of infinite death. :(

I am on a Mage quest and I am fighting a boss called The Caller. She is way more poweful than me to fight with spells, and I am shit out of melee weapons and I only have one potion left. Somehow my game saved at the start of the fight when she is aggroed so I am going to have to revert to an earlier hard save which might be a couple of hours (and certainly an whole dungeon) ago. FUCK.

Got the bastard Tom!

Luckily I had a few unspent perks. Dumping them in archery and busting out a bow I had on me seems to have paid dividends. Also taking advantage of quite awful AI helped too, sneak attack bonuses ahoy!

Just spent ages making my way up a mountain. Very epic. Guy on a bridge at the village at the bottom of the mountain says, "Yeah, bit snowy up there, might see a few wolves mate. Nowt to worry about."

Oh really? Did the ice trolls and ice wraiths slip your mind? No wonder he didn't want to go up!

This game

I've had a few crashes to desktop today, as I've gotten further into the game. Same old Bethesda crap :(

Suppooooooooosedly they're working on a fix, if anyone is having the same problem, upload a diagnostic from directx to the Bethsoft forum for them to take a look at. I would hazard a guess that it's the same problem which causes hard locks on the PS3 and 360 too, and it's the same problem which plagued Oblivion, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas and Morrowind

So far it's been remarkably unbuggy for a Bethesda game, they seem pretty proactive in getting things fixed too, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

I've just this minute had the game lock up on me (Xbox 360), just as it was autosaving when I entered a mill. It'll probably mean back to the previous village, and starting out again on the same trek, as I think that was the last place I saved. Still, I'm not that bothered, it was a fun trip.

Anyhoo, I think Bethesda have taken some inspiration from RDR with the little incidental moments that you see along your journey. I know they did a similar thing in Fallout 3, but they seem more frequent in this. About half an hour ago, I saw a Stormcloak prisoner with his hands bound in front of him, go running past me, with three Imperial soldiers in hot pursuit.

For some reason, all Khaajit characters in my game have slightly transparent faces. As in, I can faintly make out the environment on the other side of their head. Hrrm.

In mine nearly every Redguard's face can be described less as black and more as a void which only the strongest amount of HDR gimmickry can illuminate (my own character included). It must be some sort of colour palette/lighting issue because I get the same thing with the entire body of my dark brown horse.

setting the sound default format to 24bit 44100hz solved the CTD problems for a lot of people. Me included.

For me, it's trolls that are transparant. See right through them. Maybe they're using invisibility potions?

I think I might have the same thing! I haven't met a troll yet, but I was just presented with one on a loading screen and, sure enough, it was kinda transparent. Then the game crashed to desktop...

Still, this is amazing! I've been wanting to put up a big post with my impressions so far, but I literally don't know where to begin. That, and the fact that I know I haven't even come close to scratching the surface of what this game has to offer. What I will say is that, if the quality keeps up (and I get the feeling that it will), Skyrim might very well eventually take a place among my top five of all time.

I find the health regeneration makes things pointlessly easy. There's no need to use most of the potions or food that I find, so I either end up ignoring it or selling what I do find. However, I just discovered this great console command for PC users.

player.modav healrate -0.7

That permanently removes the default 0.7 regen rate from the player. Food and potions are now actually useful.
