Does the controller mod allow for analogue (360-degree) walking, or is it just emulating the four directional keys?

This always bothered me about the PC versions.

(That and the audio stuttering in ME1.)

I'll have to check but it seems analogue walking to me. I've not had any issues getting to where I need to be.

pretty sure I got this at launch.

when was that?

anyway, I just completed Mars, so yay me!

[edit]

3hrs and its turned into ME2. This is not a bad thing. Though I have to stop treating renegade events like QTs.

Look, if a button prompt pops up on screen I'm conditioned to react to it. At least give me a choice. No, two in a row and I've floored a news reporter.

renegade +5

Honestly, the extended ending doesn't do much to fix the finale. It's got a bit more plot closure but if you didn't like where the story was going, well it's still going there. On the upside Leviathan sets the stage really well and Citadel gives you the emotional closure that the main story lacked.

Yeah, it does nothing to fix it and actually makes stuff even more baffling.

Like, the crashing on the Garden of Eden planet Adam and Eve ending was really odd and out of place in a series that hadn't relied on religious themes or iconography at all up to that point, but then in the extended edition, they crashed on the planet, got out, turned around, got back in and flew off, which makes the whole sequence a pointless non-sequitur that means nothing.

I heard they added it as a "fuck you" to people complaining about the original options (no idea if that's true) but the refusal absolutely felt like the right way for the trilogy to end.

Spoiler tags...just in case eh?

Short of removing the Star Child bollocks completely, which they were never going to do, it was a great fix in my opinion: they were all doomed from the outset...ending any other way needed a deus ex machina.

At least it introduced the "refusal" ending which always felt appropriately bleak to me.

Yep, if that had been in when I finished the game it would have left me with a far less bitter taste, as it was precisely the lack of that option which felt wrong for 'my' Shepard.

Never went back to it, though, so I've never actually had my proper ending :(

So I didn't want to continue hijacking the Andromeda thread, especially as we get closer to release, so thought I would post in here.

Working my way through ME3 for the first time after finishing ME2 just before christmas. I wanted to wait to spread the experience out (I am on PS3, so Andromeda has to wait until I find a new job), but just wanted to dive back in.

Have to say, so far, it's bloody brilliant. Enemies are more numerous and intelligent than in 2, and the main missions so far have been pretty impressive. Just on Tuchunka doing the main mission, and it's an amazing set piece. I know a lot of people say ME2 was the pinnacle, but as I have not experienced the ending yet, so far this is better than 2. The characters from previous games are seamlessly interwoven in, the dead ones not withstanding (2 from Suicide Mission died for me), and it really feels like an extension of my game where my decisions meant something. The way weapons are handled is great, loving that I can choose, then mod, what suits my playstyle rather than the A is better than B approach in 2. Scanning is tons better too.

I know I am late to the party, so apologise for resurrecting this, but ME2 and 3 have been my gaming highlights recently, just absorbing pieces of gaming that have grabbed me like nothing else for a long while. And it's god to have somewhere to post without clogging the Andromeda thread, which I suspect I will want to stay clear of until I bag a PS4.

It's hands down the best combat, and by extension many of the best set-pieces in the series. Let me give you a pointer I only learned after a lot of multiplayer, which you probably won't want to do:

Cheers Alex, will have a look at this. Apparently my Soldier class is considered quite dull, but as it's how I have played my Shep in ME2, I enjoy it. Didn't want to change it as I am trying to role play the game without guides etc, so have gone with the gameplay style I enjoy. Might also have a dablle to see if anyone is still around on MP. Was surprised how easily my son gets good matchups on Assassins Creed Black Flag on my PS3, so there may still be people around.

Make sure you have the extended cut downloaded for the more palatable ending.

Got all the DLC. From Ashes was bobbins but apparently Citadel works well and I have the extended ending. Have to admit, I am intrigued as to why everyone seems to be pissed off with the ending. Not read any spoliers so will make my own mind up, but I'm intrigued. Can't imagine it will be more than a week or two until I finish, so will let you know then.

For the record, most action RPGs that push you to invest in the character tend to be crap at the end. Thinking Amalur, Oblivion, Skryrim etc. They all leave you deflated at the end. But will see how I feel. The characters I care about from ME 1 and 2 already have arcs that are ending or have ended, so not worried about the new guys having a real send off (not picked James for a mission since I got the choice, really annoying character, and I am a Soldier). Will update as I go. But won't spoiler for anyone still playing.

So, on Tuchunka....

Spoiler

Revealed the nasty plot about sabotaging the Genophage cure. My Shep is all about supporting the Krogan, and as long as Mordin is with me, the rest of his race can go hang. I also saved the Queen of the Spider Peeps, for a guy who normally plays evil, ME pushes me towards the Paragon choices.

Javik was one of the best things about ME3. Really looking forward to Andromeda, hope they don't fuck it up. Messy endings aside, I played through the complete saga around about the time 3 was released and the hundred or so hours it took me to finish is probably one of my fondest gaming experiences.

Ah, but you need From Ashes for Javik, otherwise he doesn't show up, at all. EA at its absolute worst there.

Yep, noticed that. I picked up all the DLC when it was on sale at various points over the last 2 years. If I had paid £10.99 for From Ashes I would have been gutted. Javik is a good character though.

Also agree with @SM47, ME2 and this playthrough are the most invested I have been in a gaming world outside of the Zelda games. Not sure what I will move to once I finish 3.

And wow. Just done Tuchunka, and that was an epic session. Forced to make decisions, and I am doing what I think is right, but was worried it might have an effect later. Thinking now that it won't make a huge amount of difference later, but it still feels like I am building a character. And Mordin's decision was just perfect and so well done. As was how characters reacted afterwards. What a great game. While most games I am pushing on to complete a level or stage, I am genuinely invested in this story and my part in it.

A very fitting end to a truly great character. Loved Mordin.

Can't agree more, one of my favourite characters. And his attitude fitted with mine. How tough was that fight though? Also good to know someone is playing through this at the same time.

Spoiler

I ended up just running for the hammers, way too many brutes to cope with. May have ben my squad selection of EDI and Liara, when I normally go Garrus and Javick, but I felt they deserved an outing. James obviously never comes along, he does my nut in, and as I am a Soldier, he shouldn't be needed. Same thing I had against Miranda in ME2, just don't like the character, but thats fine. You can't like everyone!

"THERE'S A REAPER IN MY WAY WREX!" I love Tuchanka

Been playing through again myself in bits and pieces before Andromeda comes out, found out there's a mod that heavily cuts down the dream sequences so that's nice! I can never deviate from Liara and Garrus for the Surkesh > Tuchanka sequence, it just feels so right. You have to take Javik along to Thessia though, that feels almost mandatory. I never really take EDI and Vega anywhere often, not due to any sort of dislike but the others always seem to 'fit' better, even the other two later additions that i'm not sure I can talk about if there are new players even though it's not a huge secret :P

I do feel that coming out of Tuchanka is definitely the end of the real peak of the game (unless you count Citadel I suppose, but that's cheating), there are definitely more high points to go but they never quite get to that level again.

I like the pace of it as well. You have a full on action section then a wander round the Normandy to talk to people, scan some systems, drop off at the Citadel for a wander around, just makes for a different experience as you go through.

Just started the Omega DLC mission and ended up buying the weapons packs as well, am liking the Harrier as an Assault Rifle, which is always my main weapon class of choice. Still got a lot of side quests to get through as well, long way to go.

The Harrier is an amazing weapon, probably the best in the game. Pretty much the only negative is the small spare ammo pool but that's never really an issue in single player. Also a big fan of the Reegar (rip :() electric 'shotgun' as well, can't remember what pack that comes with, maybe the same one as the Harrier? Mass Effect has always done weapons really well, 3 especially, so many good ones!

Did not enjoy the Omega DLC, just seemed very dull and by the numbers.

However Rannoch was a different story. Heading through the firing tube was brilliant, nice set piece. Alternating between this and DA:Inquisition at the moment on PS3 and you really can tell they had the technology nailed with ME3, but DA was clearly not built for my ageing console.

Can't decide on weapons at the moment, end up trying loads of different things. My play through of ME2 and 3 have been as soldier, but enjoying throwing Flare in now that I have unlocked it. Tons of fun blasting people with that. Shame you can only have 3 powers mapped really.
