Pinball Games - Pinball FX, Pinball Arcade, etc

Holding the ball in the flippers and hitting some timed shots into ramps is the first rule of pinball. If you are just spamming away at the triggers you will eventually make a fuck up. Judging the speed and angle of the ball as it comes to the flippers and performing a perfect catch/shot with the ball is gaming nirvana.

I learned all those pinball skills on Dreams and Fantasies, I always liked the way you could do a nudge when the balls where in the gutter, holding one flipper up and nudging it on to the other flipper before it fell in the central hole. Always a joy to pull it off. Shame you can't seem to do it in these.

Well there's Fallout: NV to play as well, it's tricky to know what to go for... as soon as I start playing though, it ends up being 2am, I've been reluctant to send some messages when it's 130am.

I need to go back to the old tables; DC has totally effed me in the A on all those, as they say

Stefcha has been pulling those out from under me mate.

Fuckin Stefcha.

I managed to do this on EDF earlier while I was absolutely stamping all over Big Gus's high score. :D

Been practising keeping the ball under control tonight and nailing the timing for just passing it between the flippers. Would have continued to score big on EDF if I hadn't made a silly error with my last ball.

Theres a fucking slow motion button?

I'm finding the new physics have played havoc with my SFII table knowledge. I can barely get any fights to start now and when I do I struggle to hit the ramps and orbits. Before, once I'd gotten one started, I'd win 9/10 of them. I am finding that I unlock the multiball a hell of a lot more though.

Great game.

Buccaneer is driving me up the wall, it looks like a great table but in reality there doesn't seem to be much opportunity for big scoring and the features are all a bit meh. Also, hitting the hole just above the left skull (or is that the left skull itself?) seems to drop the ball straight out of play down the right hand drain 9 times out of 10, which is a complete pain in the arse. Big Gus' 22M is looking epic!

As much as I love this game there is one glaring oversight.

If you want to play local multiplayer you can do single pad pass & play or splitscreen but you can't do pad pass & play with more than one gamertag. why they didn't allow multiple pads for that mode or another way of having multiple gamertags I don't know.

I still hate the meet the agent feature on Agents, I don't think I've ever actually hit it... Getting to the top left fllipper so that I can hit the tanker ramp for about 9/10 of the modes is ridiculously annoying as well. The best way seems to be to hit the left orbit and then hope the bumpers knock it back into the left orbit on the way down...

I think I understand Biloab the least out of all of the tables but through magical fluke I can still sometimes get OK scores on it.

Pasha help:

It would help me significantly if I knew where the "Oasis" was. Apparently its near the camel indicators, but I have no idea what to look for. I have a suspicion that it is a ramp to be hit by the upper right flipper? (Something not visible in any display mode)

EDIT: I've cut out most of my moaning, because I've just set a pretty decent score for Pasha. Nothing like your scores I bet, but I've gone from 11 million to 42 million. The first two balls drained really quickly and I was getting pissed off with the whole thing, but then the last ball lasted forever, and I did 3 snake multiballs, 3 bazaars, 3 or 4 sets of compass points... no book of tales though. So I know where the Oasis is, but I've never hit it intentionally.

Now I've set a real score I'm happy enough.

I could be wrong, but I think the Oasis is the hole in the upper left/centre of the table. It has a little orange-coloured tent/tarpaulin thing over it. If you hit the ball with the tip of the upper-right flipper, it will sometimes go in there.

Knocked up a quick diagram.

2vc72ut.jpg

1. This ramp opens the Book of Tales.

2. This is the Oasis and one of the Book of Tales entrances.

3a&b. This is the entrance for the Book of Tales - Magic Carpet/Steal The Map mini games. The game you will get will depend on what graphic is lit up at the bottom of the ramp, I'm not sure what causes it to switch.

4. This is the Cave. Once you have completed the first three tales and reopen the book this will be the last ramp you need to hit to complete it and collect your 50m.

(The Book of Tales shuts after each mini game and you'll need to open it again before selecting a new tale.)

Glad someone else has noticed this. I posted on pg 7 about it! Bastard fucker.

I'm taking a break from this - hit the wall trying to take back SFII from you - managed about 3 50+ scores but nowt approaching that 80+ that you racked.

So nearly got stefcha's Rome score, think I was only 3 million off or something, I had some amazingly bad 100,000 first balls which I just immediately restarted then managed to get the catapult multiball quite quickly, kept on increasing the jackpot with the ramps and then on the second ball somehow got the extra ball, no idea how I lit it, I think it might have been from the top left flipper -> orbit by the veni vidi vici and then my last ball I think I must have got a grand total of about 50,000 before it went straight down the middle :(

Yeah the extra ball on Rome is triggered by hitting 10X multiplyer which is indeed activated using the Veni Vidi Vici switches above the bumpers.

My Rome tactics are pretty boring but effective. Open the Conquer game, select Southern Territories, get around 3-5 million from the 5 shots into the holes. The game then gives you your total again once you have hit all 5 targets so potentially 10 million from 5 shots. You complete the mode by performing a right orbit shot and slamming it into the centre statue with the upper left flipper but just avoid doing that, let the 55 second timer count down. Rinse and repeat.

Just lost another couple of nights to the Earth Defense table - racked up a decent score, but still miles of Stefcha's (SURPRISE!). Most annoying is that I KNOW I can beat it - there are a lot of ways of getting goodly amounts of points, but I never seem to manage them all in the same game. Bah! Really enjoyable table though - ramps galore mainly, with various effects on each one (not sure on the terminology :/ ). Again though there are lots of features that aren't in the help file. E.g. I've no idea how to get the kickback to work, when you get to an Invasion, is that a good thing? Maybe more play will reveal the answers...

Will review the other tables tomorrow and see where my scores are dropping out of the top 5 again - damn you all for continuing to improve!

I'm also fairly baffled by that table, but it's still one of my favourites because I'm a total ramp whore :) I thought at first that Invasion was some crap mode like Bungee Jumping on Extreme (which is now easily doable compared to in FX1) where if you fell into it and failed you lost a ball, but you don't so I'm not sure I see the point of extending the countdown timer. Increased jackpot for finishing it, maybe? Which has proved impossible anyway, no way can I hit that top right hole with anything other than luck!

[EDF Table] Again though there are lots of features that aren't in the help file. E.g. I've no idea how to get the kickback to work, when you get to an Invasion, is that a good thing? Maybe more play will reveal the answers...

I had a massive go on it just now after accepting an FR from god knows and spotting the bastard had an scarily impressive 116M on it! And I've still no idea what triggers what apart from the features that you get from knocking down the robot targets in the middle, but it seems really hard to hit the middle hole to activate anything. Artillery and Data Banks seemed to be the easiest to actually score on there on the rare occasions I hit it. Invasion is pointless, assuming you can actually get a ball in the hole in time you get 1.5M (and 200K per ball in the hole, which is cumulative during the feature), that's it. Lots of points available by mad thrashing about in Airstrike Multiball and by alternating the left & right ramps to get the chevrons to red (hit the ramps 5 times each to turn them blue, then hit those 5 times each to get them red - they reset to the base of the colour your're on if Invasion activates in the midst).

Anyway, I only went and managed the 4th best all time score with 374,293,045 :omg: Only got about a million on the third ball too

If they keep releasing tables for this (in addition to just those two mentioned which will fill in the last two table gaps) I'd be in heaven, wonder what the sales have been like given they've gone the way they have regarding purchasing content? Hope it's worked out for them, it wouldn't suit every game but it was the perfect way to do things here, certainly as far as people on our side of it are concerned.
