bcass
Artistic merit comes from its function. Like, you know, the Olympics taking part in it. Well, the games haven't started yet so we don't know how well it functions. It still looks unambitious compared to the crows nest.

Comrade
It's a pity they didn't go with the original plan for the stadium which was to have it wrapped in a giant video screen. I don't mind the one we have though, I think the triangular light pylons sticking out look good.

DC Lemon
This is going to be brilliant. The whole couple of weeks. Getting to see loads of sports you don't really get access to most of the time. Handball Hockey Archery Kayaks etc I fucking love this. I particularly love a bit of: Triathlon Modern pentathlon BMX Pretty much everything, actually. Even Equestrian. Len
Will that be done (cauldron lighting business) right at he end of the ceremony then at midnight (GMT)? Just I've got to go to the bloody dentist at 17.30(EST) and am hoping will be back in time to see it if that makes sense.

Len
So who do we want to do the lighting then? Tempted by Daly but my vote goes for Bannister, it has to be him surely?

Will be watching loads live, but then playing catch up later on for the bits I may miss. glb
Feeling more excited than a kid before Christmas who's been told he's getting a new bike, ice-cream and a trip to Thorpe Park. The next 16 days is going to be the absolute balls.

spork
Watching the piece on the torch relay... I still can't believe anyone had anything negative to say about it. I have to admit that when the torch came through my town I didn't really care but watching that was great. When it was on I was hoping that some of the miserable bastards from here were watching too. The Disco
Watching the piece on the torch relay... I still can't believe anyone had anything negative to say about it. Indeed. Just watching it myself too and I could feel myself welling up when that dude proposed to his girl. Boo rain ... for the love of god haven't we had enough this year !!! Fingers crossed it doesn't piss down heavily for those at the stadium. It does look a bit odd and somewhat twee that they've bunged The Shire in the middle of the stadium. I'm expecting a Shire horse and freight cart race, a massive Morris Dancer maypole dance off and then some odd random float parades around the perimeter of The Shire.
