Bohemian Rhapsody - Rami Malek is Freddie Mercury

Recommended Posts

The new Freddy Mercury....

Did Brian May not recently refer to "the Freddy era" of Queen?

What a joke.

Wouldn't be surprised if this new biopic has 10 mins of Mercury and the rest is Paul Rogers and that twat. With 30 mins spent on Brian May writing that 90s Ford advert song.

or Ben Wassiname

he Theory Of Everything's screenwriter, Anthony McCarten, joins the Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody...

A project we thought had been quietly shelved was the mooted biopic of Queen's legendary frontman, the late Freddie Mercury. At one stage, Dexter Fletcher was close to directing this one we understand, before departing the project.

Turns out the film is still happening.

Ben Whishaw remains the top choice to play Mercury (for a long time it was Sacha Baron Cohen who was set to play him, but he left in the end over creative differences), although he's not signed on the dotted line as of yet. But there is progress, as a fresh writer has been hired.

Anthony McCarten, who bagged an Oscar nomination for his The Theory Of Everything script, has joined the Freddie Mercury film, which is currently going by the name of Bohemian Rhapsody. No director is attached to the film just yet, though, so there's still some time to go here.

As we hear more on Bohemian Rhapsody, we'll pass the news your way...

Irrespective of who is going to play Freddie, if the rest of Queen are still sticking to their original vision of this film AND getting their way, its going to be fucking shit. No one wants to see half a film of Freddie up to his death and then the other half of Queen carrying on with fucking Paul Rogers. Literally.

No one gives a shit about Queen carrying on, apart from the Pension Fund Managers of Mr May, Taylor and the other one that plays the bass.

Malek is an interesting actor but I don't think he has the charisma or presence for this role.

It's a shame, Baron Cohen would have been an Oscar contender if he had done the unsanitised version he wanted.

Credit where it is due the "other one who plays bass" has had almost nothing to do with Queen since the tribute concert (He made two other minor appearances). when Queen were inducted into hall of fame he didn't appear

he collects royalties on song usage etc etc but that is it. He didn't and doesn't believe that Queen should have carried on post-Freddie. Interestingly May says that Deacon approves fo the biopic but as the man himself gives few or no interviews we only have May's word.

I think he'd be able to get the word out to let us know if he didn't.

With respect, you have no idea how "reclusive" Deacon is.

Go and read any interview with May, they barely speak to Deacon, and deacon doesn't want to speak to them he wants nothing to do with them (according to May in an interview). He rubber stamps the business side and that is all. They claim he gives consent but, again according to May, it is a rubber stamping exercise.

I only commented in the thread at all because of the lumping in of Deacon with May and Taylor. Deacon handled it all very differently.
