Dark Souls - Prepare To Die... You Died.

Recommended Posts

Might have gone a bit overboard on gearing up, sat outside the dreaded duo's room with +6 all armours, +10 Rapier, Bow and shield and +15 pyromancy flame. Come at me bros.

Can't believe you did it first time. I finally did it today after what must have been about 30 attempts. +10 long sword, +6 pyro (which proved very handy). I summoned someone, who helped a lot in the first half of the battle to split them up. He died soon after Smough went down though. That left me to have an epic, heart pounding battle with Lightning boy. I used 2 or 3 humanity, 10 Estus, 2 gold resin and all my fireballs, but finally he went down. Awesome battle. I was so determined not to lose it. Honestly, it has made my weekend and feels like a genuine accomplishment!

I'll do it alone next playthrough ;)

I levelled up my INT to 50 to get the white dragons breath. If you need 50 it must be super awesome right?! Nope... :S

Underwhelming as it is, it is great for corridors and/or when enemies are lined up.

The disappointment fits right in the Dark Souls universe :) Don't not be sad though, there is a catalyst (Logan's one?) that does more damage the more INT you have.

edit: my proper melee run was with the Zweihander. One can never have enough END whilst wielding that weapon. And poise, as one will get hit (a lot if one is sloppy :hmm:)

I just finished my ps3 play through (yay 100% again). I thought that would be me finished as that's another 50 hours on the game after sinking 500+ on Xbox and PC.

Within a couple of hours I was back in with a sorcery character. Doesn't this game know I have other games to play!

It climbs walls too, at first when i got it i thought "meh, that was a waste of time" but if you play around with it a bit it's actually pretty good. You can take down 4-5 of the tree people things in the DLC areas with 1 spell for example if you make a bunch of them chase you

My Sens Fortress attempt continued: Traversed the white light and got sniped and bombed off a bridge, 30-40 mins gone, no sign of a bonfire, will have to do those swinging axes again. I don't doubt I'll go back to it but fuck sake.

Sounds like you had just walked past a sneakily concealed bonfire a couple of minutes before you died :-(

When you come through the white light and turn back to the left and there are a couple of square areas separated by steps that the dude is throwing bombs onto, time your run across the first square and up the second small set of steps, then run out to the edge of the structure and there should be a crumbled wall you can drop off.

Damn, one thing about being this late to the party (I actually bought it on release but you know what I mean) is that orange markings are few and far between.

One thing that really bothers me is look at my stats there, I have 22 dex and a shortbow +2 which isn't great at all but it does...7 damage! Surely it should be more?

Deeply cruel and malicious, the placement of that bonfire.

In that instance it was normal arrows against a bomb throwing golem so he'd have had extraordinarily high phys def, so yeah I was guilty of using the most extreme example. But even against undead burg mooks it's really low as well, and I didn't have 22 dex at the time but I think I used well over 100 arrows to get the drake sword.

Wish I could manually aim my soul arrows but I understand why I can't.

I'll definitely go back to it but...not today.

Use the manual aim from the bow and arrow and then swap to your catalyst to aim soul arrows :)

Roper - I'm not strong enough to use it anyway, if/when I do my melee specialist build it'll be VIT/END/DEX because I do love a good spearing.

winky - If that's the case then I'm massively in your debt, my INT is disproportionately high so a lot of sniping ass bad guys are going down.

One bit I love in Sens is after you kill the first lightning throwing lizard, cross that bridge you see one that is leaning against a (breakable) wall with his arms folded looking menacing, if he was chewing a toothpick it wouldn't look that out of place.

Haha, I always thought that. He is one chilled mother.

Remember how I said I wouldn't go back to this today? I lied.jpg.

In fact I more than lied I'm at Anor Londo now. I think I may have seen that cut scene before but that reveal was ridiculous. Knowing the Souls series I can go to all those places, right? Stunning.

Got some extra points in END now and they really helped for Iron Golem, that fight taught me a lot about the roll invulnerability. I got smacked off the arena maybe a dozen times.

Does the game explain in its roundabout way why pitch throwing golem stays dead but boulder loader respawns? The latter staying dead would be such a huge help, although I'll admit now that I can go through Sens relatively quickly now.

That bonfire placement is bananas though, if it wasn't for this thread it'd be a 20+ minutes careful journey to Iron Golem, estus flasks and soul arrows used and maybe even depleted. I doubt I'd have seen it through.

Speaking of Estus flasks I have a fire keeper soul and there's this woman by the Anor Londo bonfire who'll reinforce it in return for it, but does that mean I can't reignite firelink shrine? Or is that what the black orb is for?

Keep the soul for now, especially on your first run. The orb that dropped from

the Firelink fire keeper

will trigger a message on screen in the area you are in now. Follow instructions and lay down some justice.

Oh man, one bridge walk from the bonfire at Sen's. I could hear an enemy but not see him. Foolishly walked out onto a very thin bridge, spotted him too late, and couldn't get to safety in time. Got knocked off the bridge and hit not one, but two things on the waaaaay down.

Tonight is the night.

3 playthroughs and 1000G later I've finally finished with this game. It's been utterly brilliant from start to finish and I urge anyone reading this thread who loves gaming, but hasn't played Dark Souls yet to have a discrete word with themselves and buy a copy today. You will not be disappointed.

The literal only downside to Dark Souls is that having rinsed it, I'm now looking at which game to potentially play next and they all sound utterly joyless and rubbish in comparison. It's like I'm used to a diet of caviar and champagne, and all I have left is Tesco Value Cola and an Iceland ready meal.

Damn you Dark Souls.

Yesterday I put my SL35 Silver Knight Archer invader character into action, trying to roleplay a Silver Knight Archer in Anor Londo and give people an extra challenge

It didn't go down well with a lot of people apparently

Hah, brilliant.

On another note, anyone got any tips for the Stray Demon? Beaten it before on a weaker character with weaker attacks but seem to just be hitting a brick wall at the moment. I can't seem to get behind it quick enough to not get hit by the aoe, and, on the chance I do I then get double hit by the melee. My only tactic has been to not lock on, run round like a headless chicken and spam combustion when I'm close enough...best attempt has been about half health :/

EDIT: Nevermind, used the crest shield, took no magic damage, killed it :)

Damn you Dark Souls.

In my experience the best thing to do is roll a new dark souls character. It's worth considering trying a bit of PVP. It's a completley different game, and you can mix it up with a little themed invasions or summoning.

So I did a long overdue root around my inventory checking out all the rings and armour I've accumulated and my guy is now wearing elite knight helm, hard thief (I think) armour, elite knight gauntlets...and a gold hemmed skirt.

Don't you be judging, it's got the best stats bottoms I've got.

Always dress for style first, stats second 8). A few points more or less in defensive stats don't do that much anyway.

I told you Lautrec.

I told you I was coming for you and what happened? I invaded your stupid world and yes, you did kill me approximately 20 times but then what? Yes, I killed you by accident trying to do the falling attack on your mate but missing.

WHAT NOW SON?

Just dropped Manus. That...that was a tough one.

He's a weird boss, he kind of forces you to use shields rather than dodging, up until now the game's usually done the opposite. He's just too fast and berserk to even attempt rolling. Even blocking was always a close one, as his attack chains would usually take well over the amount of endurance I have off, meaning I'd have to drop it between attacks for as long as possible.

Oh, and blocking one of those evil blast black magic attacks with the pendant just before it hits. Like a wave smashing straight into a wall, amazing.

Summoned Sif (who made it all the way to the end, that's pretty much a first for NPC summons for me!), who is totally the best. Sorry about our future meeting, buddy. :(
