SharkEnergy
I still don't think the Fifa 11 head to head online is better than fifa 10. It almost feels like they have rubberbanded it to make the games close. I was getting stuffed 3-0 by someone and all of a sudden my players were running THROUGH theirs and everything I did turned to gold and I pulled back to 3-3. Then suddenly they started performing the same way, and everything I did was sluggish and unresponsive. 5-3 to them. It just feels slower and more about the run of the ball than what you do with the players. You make an awesome goal saving tackle with a defender. The attacker gets back on his feet quicker and gets the ball back 9 times out of 10. There seems more of a delay on pressing a button and getting the reaction on screen. The goalkeeper quality seems to be have been upped - not as a new feature - but to make up for the sluggish tackling. Also when you play 4 at the back - strange holes open up in the centre. Fifa 10 was just more fun. However - I still play it a lot. Stupid game. I just don't see the point of this "upgrade".
SMD
Dusted off FIFA and had some ranked matches, both against the same guy. First match I was Liverpool and he was Udinese, despite his obvious pace advantage I did pretty well. He regularly tore into my defence but somehow I'd keep him out but still was edging the contest until the last minute somehow I equalised. In extra time, it was more of the same and I held off making subs because my bench was shit. On the stroke of half time in extra time he made it 3-2, so I made a triple substitution. And, well... Poor guy challenged me to a rematch, picked Roma while I stayed Liverpool. Same story again, though this time I scored first in the 10th minute and he equalised soon after, it was 1-1 until the last minute when that man Dirk Kuyt again slotted home the winner. He quit on me I managed to just miss a penalty as well in the last 5 but ho hum. The 4-3 was an epic game though.

SMD
So was I, usually on ranked, even on less than 10% DNF, if I'm winning they'll quit out on me. But I was rusty and figured why not.
smithstock
I managed to clock both 100 ranked games and 500 pro club games recently - not unlocking the 100G achievements tied to either. Without a proper feeling of progression, dominant exploits and a ropey achievement system - its hard to see a motivation to even play online at all unless its against a friend.

ryanski
I'm an impatient son of a bitch so 3 days early? Yes please. I'm also stupid enough to buy the odd UT card pack, so 20% off will ease my lack of self control when I waste points on them things. A 3day free version of the other games? Fine. Cos that's as much interest as I have in them.

The game is a shit isn't it? On Fifa 10 I had 110 wins and no 100 Win Gold Trophy came my way - turns out EA doesn't REALLY count those times you were 4-0 up and little jimmy disconnected with 2 minutes to go. Same issue in Fifa 11 for the 100 games trophy and the 50 games for a virtual club trophy and the 500 pro games trophies. I wanted to 100% the game, with that motivation gone it is gathering dust other than the few times my mates want a game. Fifa 12 and go do one. Timmo
I'm not defending the poor coding at all, but I find this pretty baffling. If you're not having fun, don't play. What difference does some stupid achievment make to anything at all? I cannot fathom that people will spend 10s or even 100s of hours on something they don't even enjoy that much just to make some number go up.
Jamin
I won't be buying the 2000MS subscription just to get FIFA 12 three days early. Mainly because a) Shopto will deliver it 1/2 days early anyway, and b) the game is bound to be bugged up to buggery for the first few weeks. Bleeders
Shopto came through for me last year and I ended up with FIFA 11 on the Tuesday (before Friday release), so I'm hoping for the same again this year. EA Sports lays down the gauntlet with its premium subscription service, makes you a 'better gamer'EA Sports has launched it's EA Sport Season Ticket, a subscription service costing around £17 a year which will offer gamers enhanced content and bonuses for handing over their hard-earned cash. First up is early access to games, 3-days before the titles even reach the shelves, subscription holders will be able to download the full game. Then there's a 20 per cent discount on all DLC content, enticing gamers to fork out on making their games last that little longer. Finally there's premium web content where you'll be able to look at stats, use social media, all these aspects will be integrated into the experience of using the service online. The service is live now and available in Europe for Xbox 360 only, no date has been confirmed for when it'll land on the PS3. Is it worth the money, or do you think it's just another way for game publishers to make more money out of us? Let us know what you think on Facebook and Twitter. Guest
...it would be really interesting for a website or a magazine to do a review of this/these features. Often it's just reported on - yet it's content for cash. Someone sort it!

No, the game needs to have several motivations to satisfy all types of players. Just because people don't have fun the way you have fun, doesn't mean that all other possible fun factors should be nerfed. - Why am I going to play a game for hundreds of hours only to realise that the tactic I discovered month's previous is now the most dominant exploit and I am not scored/ranked properly based on my skill? Killer motivation nerfed. - Why am I going to try to get achievements if they aren't guarenteed to unlock due to the coding being set up badly? Achiever motivation nerfed. - Why should I try out different teams when everybody on picks the top 5? Explorer motivation nerfed. - Why do I need to go through 20 menus just to invite my friend to a game or play online when everyone is a dick? Socialiser motivation nerfed. Personally, I love collecting achievements in games I love. I love FIFA but it has been a fairly unbalanced mess every year since 2008 and I can't see that changing in the near future. Gameplay-wise, we can only hope that the new systems that are put in place make it feel that things are the player's fault and not due to some discrepancies in the game. (i.e. hammer button to head ball with tall defender and the defender doesn't jump or press a button once and a midget jumps above two giants to win it). And FYI Timmo - the more people do something, the more points or reward they get, which entises them to do more of something and repeat. It's exactly how facebook games work so to shoot that style of play down is abit narrow. Rant over.

Jamin
Yes, there are still massive bugs present now but every mode now in FIFA 11 is at least playable. On launch FIFA 10 had the finesse shots = instant goal problem and the 'if someone quits you dont get the win' problem, both of which they patched. FIFA 11 had the career mode totally buggered, Online Team Play not working at all, 4-second lag being a lot more prevelant. Again, patched (although the latter is still a problem, just toned down). FIFA 12 will be the same, no doubt. It's just a question of in which area it'll be game-breakingly broke and how many weeks/months they'll take to patch. I've obviously got no problem with the game rewarding you in whichever way it chooses, I've no idea where you've got that from. If people like achievements, good for them. What seperates special people from normals, however, is playing for achievements despite not enjoying a game. A meaningless number going up is not a reward. If you are playing something you don't enjoy just to watch some number go up, you're essentially this guy.

I will never play a game I don't enjoy in order to get achievements/trophies. But when I was on 95 wins, and I saw there was a gold trophy for 100 wins, and I fought to that level and beyond and didn't receive said trophy - it was a real kick in the teeth. It's a bit like completing a game, but finding out that you have to complete it another 10 times before you get an end movie and credits.

Gamst
Hopefully in 12 the virtual coin toss will be gone from online games. Doubt it though, they must think it makes the game more dramatic/realistic.

I normally preorder from gameplay/shopto for that reason, but if I can have the game 3 days early then it gives me the opportunity to hope for £25 in a major supermarket on release day, covering about half the price of the season ticket.
