Idiot proof rice cooking

Recommended Posts

Gordon Ramsey's method works perfectly.

1:2 rice:water and chuck a bit of salt in.

Start from cold water.

Lid on and turn down to simmer once it reaches a boil.

10-12 mins and it's done.

Why buy a rice cooker when a pan will do perfectly fine?

Because rice cookers are amazing, it also has the benefit of removing a pan from the hob.

And it's fire and forget as they turn themselves onto standby when it's done.

The rice just sits there all snug and chipper, just waiting to be eaten.  It's the nicest way for it to say goodbye...

We still use a electric multi tier steamer thingie for rice, perfect rice every time and use it for veggies all the time, used this evening in fact for some carrots, peas and cabbage!

I tend to cook rice in the oven. Melt some butter or ghee and then add some whole spices and an onion and cook until soft. Add rice and coat it well before just covering with stock and cover the pan well and cook in a low oven for 15 - 20. Works a treat.
