Nintendo 3DS - first thread

I wonder why Nintendo chose to add such a poor battery? It does seem a very odd decision considering their history. It surely couldn't have been a matter of cost as they're only about £60($?) for them to make.

It does make you wonder what battery the ngp is going to have. Sure the unit will have more space physically to include a bigger battery but cost and power wise, I wonder what they're going to come up with..

I got two more Miis through StreetPass in Edinburgh city centre today. Was expecting more, but I suppose people have jobs and stuff. Ridiculous is you ask me.

One of them must have been one belonging to a Game store, because the Mii is called Game. He greeted my Mii with an 'I'm Game!' I BET you are, buddy.

Finally got past the giant ghost and level 3 of StreetPass Quest, but alas, one of the ghosts has a shield now!

I got three Miis in Newcastle today, including Evil Lincoln from Futurama.

Ooh, ooh, I got one in Newcastle today too! I don't suppose you're called Kyle in your spare time are you Jack? Anyway, Kyle just knocked the shit out of a ghost in SP Quest, go hero!

Edit: Ginger, I have Pro Evo and quite like it, reminds me of PS2 versions. The 3D effect is nice, surprised not many people have talked about it. Unsurprisingly it isn't stuffed with modes though it does have Master League I think. The default camera is a nice diversion from the usual side on view though it isn't the best for keeping an eye on your team (radar is on the touch screen but it's a bit of a pain to keep checking). May be worth a rent to check it out first.

Why the fuck is there no file viewer or photo viewing app

The one inside the camera app is awful, No form of ordering, everything one folder, can't sort by anything, and slideshow feature is clumsy and I can't set a specific folder on the SD card to display.

Man, I've missed Pilotwings  Why it's still not available on VC N64?

I'm so glad it's been released on 3DS and not the Wii... At first I thought this was a mistake but then realised that a Wii version would have some waggle enforced. It controls like a dream as it is now.

As for Ridge Racer, it's the same game as always, love it or hate it. And as always, I love it.

I brought it out for the first time today and got a single Streetpass Mii. No idea who it was from, but he seems to be a Battlestar Galactica fan, judging by the "So say we all" greeting.

How do these work in the quest thing? I tried it with bought Miis and they all buggered off for good after they were done. Do Streetpass Miis also bugger off for good, or will they stay around?

Oh wow that Friends list is massive now. I've added a bunch of folk but if anyone's added me and I haven't returned the favour let me know. It'd be nice if it told you someone had added you!

Also, I can't see a way to remove people from the list. Is that right?

Haha! That's my greeting! Did Battlestar guy have some natty dreadlocks?

If you go to the street pass terminal, just to the left of the extras shop, then it gives you bonus studs. I'm not 100% sure as I haven't had any street pass hits yet.

Ah thank you. Spotted it. Noticed the manual that came with this is pretty bare-bones. I think we're seeing them being phased out more. The one time I actually wanted to refer to it and find out info though... it would be useful to have a little section about the inside hub etc, though it's kinda cool exploring anyway I suppose.

In other news, I got a Mario hat from someone on StreetPass earlier for the plaza. My Mii doesn't look stupid at all with a huge red cap on.

Damn you all. I had absolutely no intention of getting this near launch but this thread of positivity has just resulted in me buying one with Pilotwings. I'll probably get Ghost Recon soon too. I'm really quite excited to try it out now.

I expect the NGP will have a simular battery life. 3 hours does sound really rubbish though.

I remember the time when the Sega game gear lasted 2 hours on batterys, it failed due to that. Nintendos gameboy could do loads of hours..

I find these crashreports a bit worrying. We're not getting the Nintendo equivalent of the Xbox 360's RROD here, are we?

It was fine when I turned it off/on again (was only fiddling for a few min after though) - but it was just a sudden switch to black screen with an error message :(

Must be incredibly annoying. :(

Not sure if it will help, but there are a few reports that if you reformat your SD card to Fat-32, that should stop the BSoD.

If that doesn't help, it appears your best bet might be to take it back and get a replacement. (just as a precaution, it's best to do it while stores still have stuck, after all, you wouldn't want to be stuck for weeks/months with one that keeps crashing...like some were with a RRoD 360. <_< )

Had a play with some over the weekend in shops and at a 3DS tour booth thing in London. I was impressed with it, pleased that I could actually see the 3D. I wasn't impressed with Splinter Cell really, or at least what the 3D added to it, but it's not my sort of game anyway. Ghost Recon was good though, in the sense of what the 3D brought to it. Again not my sort of game and I didn't have a clue what I was doing but I really got a good sense of depth. Pilot Wings was cool too :)

There's still no games that I really, really, want, though. The closest would be Nintendogs <_<

Little easter egg, if you can call it that.

Buy the Globe in the AR Shop, then play around with it for a bit.....

Nice.

Tried the clock and the cuckoo broke the screen when I got too close.

I didn't even know there was a shop until that post prompted me to complete the next game and unlock it. The built in software just keeps on giving.
