Nintendo 3DS - first thread

After playing Rayman last night for a bit it dawned on me just how awesome a 3d version of Mario 64 would be. My fave platformer of all time in a glorious extra dimension.

Do we have a drooling smiley? That analogue pad works really well. I was pleasantly surprised.

Right, there were people earlier in the thread saying that it was poor, with a choppy framerate and that the 3D use was lacking.

Now people seem to be praising it.

Which one is it? I was thinking of getting it and now I'm not so sure.

I'm going to see about grabbing Street Fighter tomorrow. How does the friends system work with multiplayer? Can you just throw invites out or is it all done in a weird Nintendo style?

it's all done in a weird nintendo way. see my posts in the street fighter thread for more grumbling.

Anyone else playing Rayman 3D?

I swear, it's the best use of 3D i've seen in any game or film. It looks lovely.

Looks wonderful doesn't it? I especially love the small particles and butterflies that come towards the screen.

There are flies in this right? At one point i swear a fly landed on my screen, i went to bat it away and realised it was in the game.

I stopped and wondered if i was in a nintendo 3DS advert.

£200 on a headache.

I'm just kidding, it's obviously brilliant, I just need to get used to it. I might start calling it the optigrab for lols though. I can't wait until tomorrow morning when I wake up and remember it's Saturday and then smile and then remember OMG NINTENDO and then jump out of bed like it's Christmas fucking morning.

I am 32 years old.

We are of the same age, and the same excitement level!!!

Have worked my way through the last few pages of friends code, and will go through the database later tonight to add who i've missed.

Add me :)

I agree but can understand why they didn't. If Nintendo released one of the big hitters everything else would just sit there.

Yeah i understand that would be the case. I just dont really think much of the launch titles. Only two that interest me are ridge racer and pilotwings. Ive never been a huge fan of pilotwings though and ive played too many racers recently to really warrant getting another.

ive played SFIV on the 3ds but its not something id want to buy. I think ill just have to hold on a little longer then.

I'm not praising it. I'm just saying I'd like Mario 64. Rayman has a poor frame rate and fucking awful camera controls. However once you can get the game to stop throwing shit plot at you I found the 3d to be pretty good. I've give it average/10

If you want to play a 3D platformer now, then it's not a bad choice. There's moments when it looks lovely and then there's moments when you are looking at a threadbare menu screen and you think naff. The missus paid £25 for it. It's not worth more than that.

Added you just now. Code in my sig, can't seem to edit that spreadsheet to add myself.

seems the friend code list is locked

mine is 3609-1016-4415

There's two links in the first page of this thread. One to enter your codes on the database, and one to view it. :) Oh and I've added you guys.

So how long can we expect the battery to last carrying it around asleeep during the day? Do I need to turn off wifi before I go?

You don't want to do that. You're going to want streetpass on! I'll be heading out to Norwich city centre in a while - I'll have the machine in streetpass mode - get out there people. It should be pretty much fully charged. I'll let you know if the battery dies.

Where the fuck is my 3D AR pictochat? I want to graffiti a cock onto somebody's head and send it to them without having to staple an AR card to their nose.

I was gutted there was no Pictochat. :( Have added you Mr Alan.

My 3DS code is 5327-0887-7244.

Let me know if you add me. :)

Also added.

And Asura, for the £25 I paid for Rayman 3D I don't regret it. Would feel a bit differently if I had paid £40. It looks lovely, but there are points when it stutters like saving and loading. The controls and camera are the downfall. On the other hand, boyfriend said he had no issues with the controls at all. Actual gameplay, it's quite a fun and decent platformer for £25. Not really helping much, is there anyway you can get to a store and try it on a demo pod? :)

Just buy it!

Its a truly awesome machine and (for me and my family at least) much more impressive tech than the kinnect. In fact, I'd hazard a guess that we have already played on the 3ds more than we did on the kinnect and we only got it yesterday! We had the kinnect from xmas day until I traded it for the 3ds a week or two back.

Right, thats enough kinnect bashing, we have Nintendogs and Ghost Recon so far, both of which are superb games, both very high quality and feel like they were designed with the 3ds in mind. Might have to try Rayman next!
