So WinterWonder and I logged onto the server to find a dirty great path ploughing through our carefully sculpted gardens and greenery. Anyone who's walked the glass path out to our property knows we've built it in the ass-end of nowhere, specifically to avoid such incidents. We spent the best part of half an hour tearing up the path and rebuilding as best as we could. We've also fenced off the house, and I've laid down a wall of obsidian at the end of the path. I'll happily remove it down the line; for the moment it's there to act as discouragement from the same thing happening again.

Considering the land and greenery was sculpted away to reveal parts of the house that had deliberately been concealed, it seems unlikely the builder was unaware that it has been built intentionally.

It might seem petty to complain about this, but with ample room to build on the server there's no need to bulldoze or build so close to someone else's work.

I'm not making excuses or anything, but I really don't think it's the server. The game is alpha and the multiplayer is even more so. Hell it even warns you on the server connect screen "this is not finished, this is for buggy early testing". We could run this on a 8-way, 32GB DL700 and it would still be falling over in a heap.

We have to wait for Notch to finish writing the game.

Obviously nobody wants the server ruined by property disputes and bureaucracy, but yeah, it is disheartening to see your stuff broken up in the greater name of someone else's project.

Long time lurker and first time poster here. I thought I'd better introduce myself, as I've really enjoyed exploring the world for the past couple of days, but I've had a couple of people wondering who I am. Hope it's not a problem for a lazy non-poster to start poking around!

I've been building a small train-station type affair on an island near the Workbench sprite. Looks a bit crap to be honest - but hopefully I can knock it into shape! I'm looking forward to mine-carts and tracks working properly in multiplayer so we can get Tunisia's rail system up and running. Should be great fun!

I'm really careful not to damage anyones property when doing the roads, which isn't as easy as it sounds. I have started covering over some of the mines that people have made, but only if there are no torches in them and they're isolated. I also remove existing paths if they're 'rough' and are in line to be replaced. If there's a structure in the way I would ask on here. The only paths I'm not planning to touch (at the moment) are the path to New Comradia and the fucking nightmare stretch to the stadium.

I'm currently working around The Bull and plan to get the central bit of the map tidied up, if no-one minds.

It's mindblowing what you lot have done on the server. Tonight was my first night playing Minecraft and I was pleased when I created a house made of stairs. Then I checked out the server and I was gobsmacked.

It's far, far too addictive this game and I'm jumping out now before I spend 3 months building bridges.

I did say on the server that I thought it was you, seeing as the path was to the stuff you'd built. Although given that other people often help out on projects it could have been anyone.

I'm really not trying to put the whinecraft into Minecraft (too late, I know); I just don't want this kind of thing to become the norm.

What are you talking about? I didn't build anything on the server! I bought Minecraft tonight. Built a house over a few hours in the SINGLE PLAYER and then logged into the server for the first time ever to see what other people had built. I got disconnected after about 10 minutes. I'm impressed with this community spirit. Not.

What's the deal with getting the ability to spawn my own blocks? I take it someone has to promote me from guest a guest. Do I qualify yet?

Yeah one of the admins has to grant you the uber-powers. Usually the admission criteria is whinge until they get annoyed and give it to you. Don't try and impress everyone by blowing up the cathedral or football pitch, for some reason people don't take too kindly to this?
