Portal 2

I have one complaint about the ending of the game, and one only.

Jonathan Coulton's song is completely forgettable this time. I mean, it's fine in context. But not memorable in the slightest, partially because the novelty's worn off probably, but also because it's not that great. Then again, I could never understand what people saw in Coulton outwith Still Alive. His other songs are just terrible, boring, cringeworthy, unfunny nerd shit.

Absolutely loving The National's song for the game, though. I tried to take that radio out of the chamber with me, and the emancipation field just disintegrated it.

I thought the same thing and couldn't recall a single moment of it the morning after. But then today, I started humming it. Weird.

I FUCKING GOT IT!!! Although, maddeningly, I could only get the 360 version - even more disappointing after I discovered that my new MacBook Air apparently runs Portal 2 pretty damn well. :(

No matter. PORTAL 2!!! I'm going in, guys!

Having just completed deffo co-op: single player first.

One thing i really do miss though is:

the twitchy-ness of portal - i know i'll probably get negged to hell for this: but i'm pretty sure it's been cut due considerations for console design with an emphasis being place on the logical thinking out of the puzzles rather than reactions.. When playing the co-op there was a couple chambers which i was able to solve completely on my own due to some aerial-portal-re-arranging-twitch-gasms and it was probably the most enjoyable thing i've done whilst playing this so far .

Amen to that, it's definitely missing the rush of the first game.

My xbox won't sign into live. Will I still be able to play this? Or should I get the PS3 version (which will sign in)?

You don't need to on 360, it's only PS3 that has the Steam functions and free PC copy.

Playing through again with the dev commentary now. God, the animation is amazing. There is no doubt in my mind whatsoever that Valve have the best animators in the business.

I was too harsh on this the other day, I chalk it up to a long string of VERY late ARG-fuelled nights and the fact that simply nothing would have lived up to the weight of expectation, I feel a little foolish now. It's clearly the best game out this year. God, Valve

Yeah, it's unlikely to keep that crown though unless lots of things slip to 2012.

Just finished this myself. Absolutely amazing experience all round.

I loved

Everything!

Seriously though, amazing scenes all round. The performances by the whole voice cast for one thing - all superb. It's just so refreshing to have so much humour in a game. And even though most of it was in the same sort of tone, it never really got old through the course of the game I really dug that old Futurama-esque Cave Johnson humour too. Even though I knew there was a song coming at the end, it was still just delightful. Really glad I haven't been keeping up with reviews/previews and so it was all really fresh to me. I do hope they bring Wheatley back though, great character.

Gonna play through listening to the dev commentary while I wait for my trusty co-op parter to catch up. Can't wait to get stuck into that! :D

Portal 2 does have some quite dark undertones, darker than I initially picked up on, if you read between the lines regarding

Bring your daughter to work day occuring at a time when Aperture were desperate for test subjects. And also, there's a lot of speculation about Chell's parentage, with some decent (if impossible to substantiate) suggestions that she is either the biological or adopted daugher of Cave and Caroline, and therefore GLaDOS. I'll leave you to trawl the horrific SPUF forums for yourself if you're interested, but it's not a theory without some merit.

I never played the original because Valve games always bring out the worst motion sickness in me. That didn't stop me buying this and, by golly, it makes me want to burp like a god after a couple of hours, but quite frankly I'd be willing to contract HIV to experience dialogue such as this in a video game from now on.

Aye, the comment Wheatley made when you see the 'Bring your Daughter to work day' and the big potato with Chells name on the display, followed later by the messages by Cave about them having to resort to employees for test subjects kinda spelled out that when the employees started to dwindle in numbers, they turned to their families to keep up the numbers.

If you take a closer look at the crates you're taken past during the "manual override" at the start of the game, you may notice a series of tickboxes on each to mark their contents. One such categorisation is whether the inhabitant is an adult or a child.

Blimey, there is no end to this. Was hoping for it to end about 30 minutes ago.

completed all of Cave's tests, now back at Wheatly who throws tests at me. For god sake I hope I do not have to 'solve' 19 more puzzles, getting fed up to be honest

Oh god. I just... I don't even know what to say. What were you expecting from Portal 2? Less puzzles/tests?

Without sounding a wuss (ok, i am then lol) how hard is this game. I played through Portal 1 and needed a few sneaky peeks at hints a few times. May give it a miss it if i'm going to get stuck on puzzles on a regular basis :-)

thanks

Has any one checked to see if you can play on the PS3 and PC at the same time? I am home for Easter and would love to play coop on this with him on the lap top and me on PS3

Not tested it, but i'm pretty sure you can do this. You just can't load your saves on a different platform.
