Man that video is awesome. Never in the history of anything has their been a gasp of absolute amazement when a fat nerd walks on stage. Amazing times. Amazing.

If I was Gabe Newell, I'd have taken the opportunity for the ULTIMATE troll, casually strolled on stage to gasps and cheers, waited for silence, leaned into my mic and whispered in a quiet voice... "The PS3 has no games".

The thing is, once you get even older again, you can't be arsed with K&M and much prefer the simplicity a joypad offers. Plus, hunching over your keyboard, a foot away from your 50,000" screen, is no good for your back or your eyes.

Joypad in a comfy chair FTW! :hat:

Uhh I have a 360 pad plugged into my PC, and my chair is fucking comfy. People fight to sit in it when I have parties.

When I play games properly (ie with a keyboard and mouse) it feels simple, natural and accurate. With a pad by comparison, unless it has masses of autoaim or is an obvious 'pad' game, it feels massively less accurate, less satisfying, more troublesome, less simple and less enjoyable. You wouldn't navigate Windows (or Mac OSX for the dickheads) with a pad, a shooter is no different. Accurate selection of items and full freedom of movement.

Oh, graphics cards have HDMI outputs. I play anything really special on my plasma.

I've sold my consoles anyway, because the direction they're ALL going in is absolutely shit.

but then they wouldn't have let him drive the ice-cream van....

I'm with some other folks, not watching, reading or having anything to do with the game until it hits the shops from now on.

You have PC parties?

Yes, I have PC parties, and definitely not parties where my house gets crammed full of so many people that every chair in every room has at least one person in it.

Wise up - if it was a PC party, do you think I'd let anyone else sit in it? Bearing in mind it's in front of my PC.

wtf is that voice acting all about? ;) Placeholder audio or I'm gonna go postal.
Just doesn't fit in at all. I doubt it's placeholder.
The Americans must be thinking "Oh ho, those crazy Brittish. Pour me a cup of china and watch out for those apples and stairs. LOL!"

The accent and acting is a bit off but the script is great.

That voice is bloody amazing. At first I was all WTF, but by the time he was hacking into GlaDos with AAAAA I was laughing out loud at almost everything he said. It's fucking genius. If Valve change it I will cry - but I don't think they will. You lot are fucking blinkered with your US tough guy shit. 2011 is all about west county droids.

No I think you've overlooked what we are complaining about. Or what I'm complaining about, at least. I like the personality, and the script. I love the idea of a droid from Somerset, but the delivery is painfully strained. It's feels almost as if they grabbed the first person capable of a rhotic accent and to their untrained American ears, assumed it was great. Or maybe it's just easier to perceive flaws in a game where the only other voice you ever heard was autotuned.

Anyway, the game will be excellent I'm sure.

I watched it because it was already spoiled for me by the GiantBomb podcast, they didn't know what was made public and what wasn't. Also, holy shit they're brilliant, the second and third ones go into what the new puzzle elements are and what you can do with them, rather than story. It looks crazy.

Penny Arcade points out an interesting side effect of Steamworks on PS3. Microsoft won't allow companies to charge for things that are free on other platforms, so by doing this Valve have ensured free patches across both platforms, which is kind of... Machiavellian.

I don't hear the strain. The voice acting is great to my ears. Maybe it could do with some post production to make the voice sound more like its coming from a small ball in the gameworld, but the perfomance is fine.

Seriously I don't think I'll ever get a PC again because of people like you

:)

I much prefer a pad. Keys and mouse might be more accurate for some games (good luck trying to play Bayonetta with it) but to me it feels shit. Part of that might have to do with the fact that I am using one for work all day and games aren't Excel sheets, but I want something weighty in my hands. When I want to pull a trigger, I'd like it to feel like one. Not clicking some measly button. Mucb better for your wrists as well.

And what is all this 'the direction consoles are heading in' shit? Because there are a few casual motion control games coming out? To me the consoles still have all the best exclusives, whether they are called Demon's Souls, Uncharted 2, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Red Dead Redemption or upcoming stuff like The Last Guardian, Journey, Kirby and Vanquish.

Feel free to disagree but could we please do without all the PC elitist bullshit in threads like this one?

Ktxbye.

Say what you will, but Portal 2, the game this thread concerns, will be technically far superior on PC, its undeniable home platform, and not only control better and look better but will be blessed with all kinds of maps and mods after release. If it's anything life L4D and L4D2, the console versions are not just worse, but laughably bad. The 'lol excel spreadsheets lol, try playing Street Fighter 2 with it' argument? really? Haven't heard that before ;) I have a 360 pad plugged into my PC for all the obvious 'pad' games, which Portal 2 isn't. I can still play MMO's, RTS, shooters properly etc. I also have a tournament fightstick and a wheel hooked up to it :D You're trying to argue a tin opener is better than a Swiss army knife. Maybe all you want to do is open tins, more power to you. Finally, exclusives are neither here nor there really, every single format has exclusives that non-owners should be jealous of.

Except the PS3. It has no games.

That's exactly the issue I had with it. It wasn't the voice it was that it didn't feel like it was coming from the eye. It needed to have a filter that gave it the presence of being broadcast from within a metal sphere.

Anyone else find that GlaDOS sounded more autotune? Her voice didn't quite have the same flow to it as Portal, there seemed to be more of a step to the change in note.

I said Bayonetta. It's not available on PC. :D

Like many other cans containing tasty food. ;)

I think that the point is that many of us quite enjoy playing Portal or any other game for that matter on console, 'laughably bad' as they are. What we could do without is someone telling us in every multiplatform thread that the PC version is superior. What's the point? It's as pointless as saying console gaming is teh doomed because some games use a motion controller. The only thing worse than fanboyism is elitist fanboyism.

For the record: I obviously have no problems with PC gaming and it is the superior platform for many games (even though most of my fave games are console exclusives). I just don't feel the need to go on about it. And I still prefer the feel of a pad. ;)

Yeah. Less "big screen, comfy couch" as well though, please. I play 360 games hunched over my desk on a small-ish monitor, destroying my back and eyes simultaneously :)

edit: also I can't wait for this game!

The personality sphere's voice is AMAZING. It sounds really nice, and completely different to the typical kinds of of performance you tend to get in games - so colloquial and warm.

"I can't do it while you're watching" was fucking great. I hope they don't change it, and make Wheatley some kind of typical cut-glass brit.

I also thought it sounded a lot like Noel Fielding. Proof if proof be need be that Jack is awesome and the rest of you are jerks, apart from barkbat and possibly smitty, depending on whether or not he likes the voice or not.

Love this song.
