Deadly Premonition

My God this game is ugly! I'm hoping there isn't a great deal of driving, cause i've just done two journeys that were so soul-crushingly bad, i had to concentrate on how awful the handling was just to distract myself from the scenery that consists of one colour/texture for the ground & rocks, and one identikit tree used a thousand times over.

Bleurgh! <_<

This game is fucking marvelous and easily one of the best games I've played ever, not just this generation. Please note though that this is a low budget title, it's priced what it is for a reason. You have to be able to accept a game that has flaws and isn't exactly polished, if you like AAA blockbusters run the fuck away. The graphics are a bit shite, gameplay can be a bit janky (though nothing downright terrible) but the game's got a lot of heart and is really very charming. The story is terrific, the characters are all really likeable and quirky, and not in that annoying 'i'm indie aren't I quirky' kinda way. York is one of the funniest and just plain likeable main characters in a game ever and it's very well voice acted and written. It's just a very creative and fun game and had me hooked for the entire time I played it.

Some advice for new players if you want to make life a lot easier for yourself (no story spoilers at all but does reveal sidequest awards in case you want to do things for yourself)

Do the Sheriff, George Woodman's, quest which is available at nighttime. You can tell when a character has a quest available as you'll see a notepad beside their name on the map. On completion this will give you a radio which you can use to teleport to places you have already been to. Also, the shop owner Keith sells maps in his store to mysterious locations. The first map after you complete the location gives you infinite ammo for an SMG. These two things make life a lot easier. There are other things too but I won't reveal them unless asked for

I've got the US version and my UK version arrived today, looking forward to jumping back into the game again in the near future when the game pile does down a bit!

What were you expecting?

A little bit more colour, perhaps? lol!

It's a strange one; for all its flaws, and even though it feels 10 years out of date, it's still very difficult to put down.

I'm loving York! I think he's a fantastic character.

You star thank you!

It's awesome to finally be playing Deadly Premonition after watching so many videos, and reading so much about it. The fact I'm still pinching myself about playing it genuinely adds to the surreal atmosphere.

This game may lack graphical fidelity, but it's not short on ambition. It's only just hit me how actually open the world is! I just spent 10 mins wandering down some random street pilfering all the mailboxes for 10mm ammo!

I'm loving the fact York is a complete movie geek! His conversations with Zach while he's driving are excellent! As painful as the driving is, they do perk it up somewhat.

More openworld games should have you worry about hunger and tiredness. Great inclusion.

Consider me converted. This game is ace!

Coming off the PS3 import version to the 360 version is like a breath of fresh air - no more pauses between hitting shoot and actually firing, no more slowdown on the item pickup screens and I can actually use the Observe function because everything's in English, yay!

I've just completed the

Hospital Darkworld

and have a bit of time on my hands, I think I'll scour the map for all of the bones that are lying around. Love it

Thanks for the tips mr_woo! I now have my Infinite SMG! :)

Just witnessed a fantastic little touch -

i was driving up to the Community Centre ready to give my speech at 15:00. It was about 14:45 and already i could see the individual townsfolk on their way, each in their own vehicle. The ones that were early were already standing around in the car park, waiting. Very clever. Makes the town feel alive!

Dand it, I went to the Game in Camden and Oxford street and the HMV in Oxford street too, and none of them seemed to have it. Why do rising star never seem to be able t get their games in the stores its really annoying. <_<

Anyone in London know where I can get this game from?

Serious question - you have tried Fallout, haven't you? If you haven't, you may want to give it a look if this sort of thing floats your boat.

Yeah, of course. Put about 90+ hours into Fallout 3. About 10 hours into New Vegas, so far.

I meant the survivalist aspect being incorporated into other 3rd person open-world adventures, similar to Dead Rising's Infinite Mode. That'd be cool.

Tried to buy this from gamestation earlier. Didn't have it in stock and the sales assistant had never heard of it :(

My Hut copy hadn't shown up this morning, so I thought I'd grab a copy just in case they have a glitch. Looked absolutely everywhere and all had either not got it or had got two or three copies and sold them yesterday. Last stop was HMV, who, thankfully, had one copy left.

Testing the water before printing any more, perhaps?

@ mr_woo - Regarding the Sherrif's sidequest for the Nameless Flower. I'm led to believe it only comes out when it's raining. Will a marker pop up on my map showing the location, or is there a specific place i need to go (i've read the Graveyeard). And also can i get it this early in the game (i've just done the town speech at the Community Centre, and its just started raining)?

Thanks in advance!

As JonnTM said you will see flowers on the map and this is the flower you need, it's usually by the river bank. I'm pretty certain you don't need to do any quests beforehand it's all based on where George is. So he should be home and you'll see the sidequest available at his house. It's like that for all the sidequests available, they're based on character locations and time of day since the characters are constantly moving around the game world. I think in my case i had already picked the flower and when I went to his house and went through the dialogue I was able to give the flower and retrieve the award.

Wow. Just started playing this. I have no idea what is going on right now except that my character keeps talking to someone called Zack and I'm pretty sure I just got attacked by the "Raincort" killer, but this sure is out there.

However the milk in my coffee this morning gave me a sign that said "you will love Deadly premonition" :D

Man, this really is rough. I'm not sure if I'll be able to handle the endless bits of loading and super slow door opening. And fetch quests. I'll give it some more hours at least.

At the very least it'll be worth quite a bit in a year I'm sure.

From watching the GB quick look there is a faster door opening, I believe if you run at the door.

This game is ugly as sin and broken in so many ways, but the protagonist described Kevin Bacon's role in Tremors as a "Masterpiece", so it get's a GOTY vote by default!

In all seriousness; I can't stop playing it! I have 17 hours on the clock already, and i feel like i've not even gotten started. Time-sink for sure! Cult classic in the making? Absolutely!!!
