Agreed that the aug is a beastly gun (especially supressed to take the edge off the recoil), but it was actually the psg-1 that netted me the most success, and I'm never normally a sniper. Certainly feels less of a chore, though the trade off when going supressed seems fair. Given the way the maps are, and the comparative usefulness of other guns, I do't think the sniper boost is unreasonable. It's only the one gun, anyway.

They still have a 0.5 second 'jerk' of inaccuracy when you first bring up the scope, which makes it pretty much impossible to quickscope, and by extension do shit like 360 kills.

There are fuckloads of videos on youtube of 720 no scopes and 360 quickscopes already. Apparently, putting the variable zoom attachment is the key to getting those quickscopes in.

DLC Dated and Priced.

Revealed on Microsoft's Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb's podcast, the pack is called "First Strike" and includes four original multiplayer maps and one zombie map for 1200 Microsoft Points ($15) on Feb. 1, 2011.

Here are a few details from Treyarch's Dan Bunting:

Discovery - Antarctic German research station, abandoned from World War II.

Kowloon – Inspired from the single-player campaign based off of Kowloon city in China. It's a rooftop map.

Stadium – Hockey rink in northeastern United States.

Berlin Wall – Takes place at Checkpoint Charlie. Is a battle between East and West Berlin.

Ascension - Zombie map.

No word on when First Strike will be available on PC and PlayStation 3. At E3 2010, Microsoft announced it signed a multi-year agreement with Activision that will see all Call of Duty map packs released first on Xbox 360 through 2012.

Rooftop map? Yes please! Actually, I like the sound of all of those. Let's see if, unlike MW2 map packs, they actually deliver.

i liked the first map pack i think it was, with bailout, salvage and crash

after playing the single player in this and noticing the WaW weapons are in the game, i'm semi hoping they bring back some maps from that and maybe add the guns in. probably rather unlikely but it would be nice, can't see call of duty releasing a "gun pack" though.. it could fuck the balance entirely, and make shit either "overpowered" or a waste of time!

Love the idea of a Hockey Rink map, especially if you've seen the film Running Scared - could do some cool things with the lighting. Shame i've traded it in now though, £38 at gamestation priced matched with Argos. Can't say i'm going to miss it. Picked up Battlefield 2 and some points for the Vietnam DLC, and still had a fiver left over.

I haven't really seen any rllmuk matches going on. The rllmuk tag is fairly quiet and only has 30-odd people on it. I tend to play with a few people from here and a couple of my real-life friends. We're usually on during evenings in the week - feel free to join us :)

Cool. Will add you 8)

Was host advantage as beneficial in MW2 as it is here? I've quit out of games where I've been host because of how unfair it was. Players would machine gun me, put 10 bullets into my back and I still have time to turn around and get the kill. It's a bit ridic.

If my experience is anything to go by you get host disadvantage in the form of massive framerate drops when there's a lot of action going or even if you're just standing in certain areas of maps. Seems to be worse on certain maps and especially bad in games of Ground War.

Yeah totally agree on this. Ground War seems to be really suffering with the lag recently. Dunno whether it is due to larger number of players. Had some lag in TDM as well but less prominent - also had some games totally lag free, for instance I had a brilliant time on Nuke Town last night - I was the Daddy.

I understand I have negated any value anyone puts on my opinions but indicating I enjoyed Nuke Town ;-)

So I managed to break my first pad in about five years last night while playing this game. I guess that means it's probably time to move on and play something else. Absurdly the pad still actually works albeit with broken plastic casing, which perversely makes up for the one I had to throw away that died without any mistreatment and the faulty one that always thinks it's got a microphone connected to it!

But yeah, the shameful realisation that you need to buy a new one is in no way offset by the two seconds of satisfaction you get from venting.

I had a couple of games last night where my framerate dropped to single figures. Is that lag related, then? I've never had it before and as far as I could tell everyone else was fine.

As above, it's probably because you got stuck hosting.

I just unlocked the ability to look down the sights of the gun more quickly. Having not known this existed until now, I think I understand why I've been getting killed a lot more than I should have been in one on one situations. I also swapped to the ACOG from having been using the reflex sights for most of the time, and I have to say I think I prefer a little zoom on my rifle.

Is it just me, or are shotguns much more useful this time around?

I found in MW2 the only useful shotgun was the SPAS unsilenced; it was an absolute beast with grip etc. imo the shotguns are slightly less powerful in BLOPS but I prefer them as being forced to take them as primary means you spend a lot more time with them and they can train your playing style to using them better. Also it seems that I use more shotguns now: Olympia for RAW POWER, Silenced SPAS for sneaky-sneaky and Stakeout for in-between. The most important skill with them seems to be closing your distance between the opponent without being detected until you're close to a bunch of them. Then have fun!
