Transformers: War for Cybertron (PC/PS3/X360 & NDS/Wii)

Finished the whole single player game their now - both Decepticon and Autobot campaigns and loved it. Great shooter and does the Transformers brand proud. The dialogue continued to be fantastic between the characters and just basically made me smile like a loon. I tell you what it reminds me of now after thinking about it, Metal Arms - A Glitch In The System. It's almost like a spiritual successor in the way it plays, to me anyway. Basically my main problems with the game would be needs better variety of locations and more variety in the robots you fight. I really want them to make a sequel though, I wouldn't mind it if they did it in Cybertron as long as the mixed the locations up a bit more but the thought of a sequel on earth has me drooling. Definitely up there with the PS2 game, probably more so for myself personally.

Time to spend more time on Escalation and the Multiplayer modes.

Don't forget Campaign co-op. As always it's fun, especially when you get a few TF nerds on board. :D

[edit] Also, the PS3 version has immense framerate troubles during some scenes. Multi-console owners take note.

Damn. Does the 360 not suffer then?

Oh well, I'd rather play online for free with my friend :D

That's the main reason for me as well. I've got two mates with PS3s, so the 360 version isn't an option.

Decepticon campaign complete.

While I'm enjoying the immense amount of fan service and fairly decent shooting mechanic, it could've really done with a little longer testing. It's really quite annoying when you jump only to not land and find yourself floating on top of your allies head. Also ran into another bug where somehow I managed to go through a wall into the blackness of space with the only thing I could do being to fly down until I die.

Just finished the first chapter. Wow, longer than I thought but absofuckinglutely awesome! Could have used a bit more ammo at times but I got by.

Had a quick bash on multiplayer too - got the hang of all the classes and whatnot and wow, loving it :)

I think I'm in love with Soundwave just a little bit, too.

Yeah I think so as well but the Decepticon campaign has it's moments. Loved Starscream's level and the assault on Iacon.

Also I really wish they did more plan levels they're the best of the lot. Seriously Nintendo, if you've not doing anything with the Starfox franchise, give it to High Moon.

Been playing this solid, on the last but one decepticon mission so far, so long way off finishing the game, and thats before multiplayer at all. Definite 8 I'd say, but I dunno if thats because I havent played Gears of War at all, or just because I'm a TF geek. So far its been awesome. I've ignored the plot differences to the comics/cartoons because the characters are close enough anyway, and it does play pretty well. Only got it on normal atm, but its not been too tough, so I can see me doing it on hard, and knowing what to do that time about will make it easier.

Redeemed my Shockwave, and you *can* use the model in multiplayer, even non-escalation, which I didnt know. Awesome!

After playing it, the Gears references are actually rather daft, because this plays nothing like Gears of War other than you shoot bad guys. I do wish they'd used a different engine though. I now hate the Unreal engine.

I finished the Decepticon tale tonight ... eehh, it was alright. I did enjoy it, and it had some decent moments. But I enjoyed the first chapter of the Autobots story far far more. I'd prefer the game be played entirely from the Autobots perspective, if I'm honest. Ok, yeah, you have to hand it to High Moon for thinking outside the box a little, but for me it doesn't really work all that well.

It's reminds me a lot more of unreal tournament than anything else, especially in multiplayer.

I should also take this opportunity to say to anyone that if you haven't played it then get yourself Metal Arms - Glitch In The System pronto. Still one of the best third person robot action games ever made.

Completed it last night and loved every minute of it...except the final Autobot bosss, that was just frustrating, I think overall the Autobot campaign flows better but the Decepticon campaign has some great moments as well

such as when Omega Supreme starts chasing you

. The lack of flight missions is criminal though.

Starting another playthrough now to get achievements and collectibles.

Did it ever, I was cursing Primes slow ass every time I was getting hit by the energy blasts, missiles etc. Needed more obvious cover, and less irritating things that got in your way/messed you up :)

Rest the game is fine, just that last boss, even the Decepticon campaign boss was easier than that, and nothing else caused as much frustration apart from the Ratchet bit

where he heals Omega Supreme, he died loads before I could get near to revive him. Seriously, a doctor and I needed to revive him :P

'Wait - are you calling the Autobots fools, or us fools? Because i'm starting to get a sense that you don't respect me'...

Ahh sweet lord this game is ace. Dialog is genuinely funny in parts and every time Starscream shouts 'if only every decepticon could be as skilled as I' after a headshot, I get a little nerdgasm.

I'd trade actually being wanked off by Megan Fox for the Bay movies to have been like this. Just fantastical fan service.

The PS3 version is really quick to get into a multiplayer game too - deathmatch, at least and I'm really really enjoying it. I suck at shooters generally, this is no different, but it's enjoyable even if you are rubbish!

Do you speak in those online games? I can just imagine someone getting killed by you "AMG a gurl killed me, the humiliation!!!" You should so definitely use the Arcee model and giggle while killing people

Autobot Campaign slight spoiler for the jail level -

What an epic battle with Soundwave. I especially loved the "first we crack the shell, then we crack the nuts inside" line from Rumble.

;)

Yeah quite a lot of cartoon references in the Autobot campaign, which were oddly lacking in the Decepticon one

Why aren't more people talking about this? I've got the final mission to do, but am holding off playing it for now. I don't want the Autobot campaign to end. <_< I'll put the rest in spoilers so ...

Serious spoilers ahoy!!

I honestly didn't realise that this game would tell the story of how Optimus came to be Optimus Prime. When the council said "Rise Optimus Prime" I was loving it, but was like 'where's the fucking matrix then?' Then I got to cybertron's core and had a full-on nerdgasm of epic proportions, it was messy! ;)

The Aerial Bots level was awesome, I just HAD to play as Jetfire, as I had him when I was a kid.

Man, so this is pretty good? :/

I'm so very gay for transformers but the rented PS3 version i've currently got runs and looks so fucking bad I can't stomach to play it.

A serious shit PS3 multi-format release.

I am tempted to get the xbox one....eurgh.

It's is a great game, could have definitely done with some more QA time though, while I never encountered any bugs on my first playthrough I've come across invisible stairs, one enemy sunk into the ground and in one instance, a scripted event not working. However it looks and runs great on 360.

Haha no I stupidly left my headset in Sheffield. I've not had a chance to use it at all yet, so I'm not sure how it all works. If I hook my headset up, will I hear all these random people in my ear? As it is, I just hear game noises until the game ends and then some people say some random things? ;)

What's supposed to be so bad about the PS3 version anyway? I'm really enjoying it. I noticed a bit of slow-down in chapter II - when the camera pans out to big rooms - but otherwise it seems grand, and like I said, getting into an online game is no problem (as it was with the 360 demo).

Is the co-op the same as the single player campaign or are there different levels?

Exactly the same thing except in single player you're accompanied by some very stupid AI instead of friends.

Tried Escalation mode and that is bloody superb, managed to last 15 waves and then the next wave just completely spanked my team and killed us pretty quickly <_< Really enjoying the competitive multiplayer too but man they really need to tone down that bloody whirlwind ability, it just seems like nearly every sod is picking a soldier and running into the objective point and spamming that move.

If you're enjoying it and not noticing any problems then I wouldn't worry about it. <_<

I'm very fussy with this sort of thing, esp. after coming from the 360 mp demo.

The story mode is good, though I thought it could have been more comic based than cartoon based, but ho hum. Dunno if I'll complete it on hard, as some bits are hard as nails on normal that it frustrated me no end (the 2 I mentioned previously in the thread). Multiplayer though I will definitely play to death most likely, at least untill Halo Reach comes out anyway.

If only the Bay movies were this good plot and action wise. Anyway was looking on Youtube at random Transformers video clips and such and found this:

I did the same - came from the 360 demo. Maybe I just don't remember it so well, though. Or I'm just not that fussy. Anyway, for me the ability to easily play online for free is a major factor and it's why I'll continue to go for PS3 versions over 360 even if it's not quite as pretty.

I played Chapter III last night. Everyone keeps saying how much more amazing the Autobot campaign is, though to be honest I am having an absolute blast with the Decepticon one. If it only gets better than that's fantastic to hear.

I watched the cartoons a bit when I was younger but I wasn't fanatical about them to say, the extent I was with Turtles. I'm sure there's a lot of little touches that I'm not getting, but even so, it's just constant fun and I'm getting into the characters, even those I didn't already remember, and those I do (Megatron, Starscream, Soundwave) seem to be realised pretty accurately ;)
