The RROD thread

If they try that ill be slapping the sales of goods act in their face...

(doesnt it cover this?)

Yes, but as some customers' experience with a number of retailers has shown, not even store managers really know or indeed follow the SoG Act. Who was it wound up writing a letter to Tesco's Chief Exec because his local branch wouldn't replace a 360 because they, according to the branch manager, "Didn't use the Sales Of Goods Act"?

Well after putting it off with intermittent 3 red lights my 2nd 360 finally gave up the ghost last night. Most impressed with UPS. Called them about 11am and my 360 was picked up just before 1pm. My daughter was rather sad and waved the 360 off as it went. She's hooked on GTA4. She's almost 4 and I'm a bad, bad parent.

I posted this in the 'what would you do to get your console working' thread, but I guess it should go in here too:

My 360's just developed a fault where, after ten or so minutes of use, it will switch to a 256 colour mode which applies itself to the blades as well as the in game graphics. Looks like something is on its way out but it's out of warranty - what's the best way of making it RROD so it gets fixed for free? I sure as shit am not paying 80 notes to get a reconditioned one that will die after six months.

That's what I did with mine. Just think how many MS are getting back, they can't really check them all, escpecially an intermittent fault.

When mine was picked up I said to the courier I expect he gets a lot of these - he said every other pickup is a 360 recently.

Oh FFS!

Put new unit on yesterday, straight away 3RROD.

Stick TV on just to confirm and oddly the dashboard is up and working. It asks me to update.

So I do, the machine restarts and its fine.

Play Rock band for a couple of hours and leave till this morning.

Stuck it on for 5 minutes to check something and BAM!

Working 360 with 3RROD again...... (dashboard was up, switching machine on and off removes the 3RROD)

Swapping again it is then.

Gamestation are part of Game now and they certainly have a 12 month warranty - they should replace the unit straight away (keep your hard drive etc).

Incorrect, they are owned by the same people that own Game and are thus separate entities.

And surely everything you buy is covered by the 1979 Sale of Goods Act which says that anything you buy should be reasonably expected to last for 6 years (witht the exception of, say, cake) at which point the manufacturer is legally obliged to offer you an exchange? Someone I know used this against MS.

Uh, those "same people" are Game Group PLC., whose only business was Game. They now "operate in the UK market under the GAME and Gamestation brands". There is no business entity called "Gamestation" any more. They're not a seperate business in any sense of the term.

weird thing is it ONLY happens if the machine is completely disconnected from power(plug out socket) for like "8 hours".

AND only on first launch

All the same, I'd be worried about sending it back. You'll wake up one morning with it sat at the bottom of your bed, its single fierce red eye staring, unblinkingly into your very soul.

My Elite (a replacement for a RROD Premium) shit itself on Sat with RROD.

Only 9 months old so took it down to GS, the offered me a new one and let me keep my HDD.

Smashing.

Jesus..I was hoping they might have fixed the problem for the Elites. Mine was a replacement for a dead launch machine and I thought I might never have to go through the grief of sending something back to MS again.

Argos tried to get me to send mine back to MS and it wasn't even a month old :(

No way I was keeping it as it would power on but not booting up an increasing amount of the time (no light errors - power went on and that was it) AND I don't think it was the new mobo model.

Then found out no stores in the area had any stock anyway (probably why they wouldn't replace it) - so reformatted the HD (ouch) took it back and demanded a refund. Kept the games i got in the bundle though so I only paid £15 each for Halo and GTA - will buy a replacement next payday - might go for an elite this time...
