The RROD thread

I'm sure this has been asked before, but mine red ringed twice in half an hour yesterday, but now appears to be fine. Do you get charged if Microsoft can't find a fault?

they'll find a fault because the ball-solder on the GPU won't be perfect anymore.

besides, once it's done it, it's not "fine"...

where do you find this out? they have had mine for six days and website still sats, "waiting for device...."

UPS website - tracking number.

Mine is "Out for Delivery" and should be here today. I'm excited but also kind of worried - almost 12 and no sign? Not sure it can be good...

Looks like I may have lucked out on mine.

I had no video output.. no RROD's or anything.

Anyway, I logged it as a 3 RROD so I wouldn't have to pay (I thought I'd chance it) .. just checked the status, It's back in Waranty and has been repaired and on it's way to me as I type this! RESULT!

Anyone want a repaired 360??

Mine said that, I phoned them up, they said they had it. It only changed from "Waiting for Device" to "Shipped to customer", there was no "we're fixing it" type status... Taken bang on 2 weeks.

UPS

"Your package is on time with a scheduled delivery date of 05/06/2008."

It's gone 3pm already. Good lord I've been unable to work much today as I've been waiting in nervous anticipation!

Now what first...GTA 4 or EDF? Hmmm...

It's getting on for 4pm. Is the delivery going to turn up at all? I've been hanging around for it all day!

What are UPS like?!

UPS once made me wait a month to deliver Ouendan - the cunts. I fear for your Xbox, Troy. The 'bird' on the phone told me one day that they were definitely delivering that day, so I sat in the front garden all day so I wouldn't miss them - they never came - lying bitch!

I will just drive to the UPS centre and demand it! It's only about 20 minutes away, if that.

This is quite equisite torture. I've been working solid all weekend near enough, mixed in with exercise, and today was my "Xbox" day. Where is it! I will sue for the service from UPS I've not paid for.

I'm not genetically superior at all. I'm short and bald. I've just become cool and amaze from learning.

And you know what. IT JUST TURNED UP!

Let's hope it works...

Started getting disk unreadable errors at random, mainly GTA but last night Assassins Creed. Blasted a can of airduster into drive and ran a dvd cleaner through it 10 times and played GTA last night with no crashes. Mind you there's probably a nice nicotine build up inside that box.

I'll expect failure sooner rather than later though.

I got mine back repaired in 10 days working days (sent friday, received a week on wednesday) and it only EVER said 'Waiting for Device at Service Center'.

Just checked the MS support site again, and sometime today the status on my repair changed from 'Waiting for Device...' to 'Device Received at Service Center' - a full week after UPS's site says they delivered the thing. So... the 10 working days thing starts now? Hurrumph and double hurrumph. :(

EDIT: OK, checked again this morning and it says it's been shipped - so the repair took about half an hour? Less hurrumphy now, anyway :)

any tips for getting a disc out of the machine? GTA is stuck in there so I can't swap the box at gamestation. Tried the towel 'method' but my machine refuses to heat up. been wrapped in four towels for over an hour and zero warmage :(

bizarre, when mine RROD'd I could still eject PRG4 from it.

I pressed the eject button.

Is there not a pinhole under the dvd tray you can stick a paper clip in and it'll spring open?

Thanks for the replies, but I'm not seeing it. I used brute force to pull the tray out, and I've now got a new machine - thank you Gamestation.

Checked for a pinhole on my new machine (manufactured march 08) but a bit of prodding with assorted implements in the various holes isn't working. Can anyone say where said pinhole is? Do I need it powered on? bit wary of doing that :(

Probably need to know for six months time when this one goes pop....

UPS just been around to collect my 360, it stopped playing games and dvds altogether. Any idea of how long it might take to get it back?

Mine was picked up by UPS on 29/4/2008, delivered to MS on 30/4/2008, and is due back (according to UPS's website) on Wednesday, 14/5/2008. That's 15 days from collection, or 10 working days. I'm being generous here, and assuming that whichever country they fixed it in also had a Bank Holiday in there somewhere.

I take great care never to touch my 360 incase it detonates but took it out last weekend - on returning, GTA IV now displays great swatches of the screen as purple or sometimes green blobs.

It's all very upsetting.

Am I about to RROD, or is it something to do with the fact that I switched the 360 from PAL-50 to PAL-60, shortky before going back to HDMI? Before I faffed with the cables, there were zero problems.

It can't semi-die now - my PC doesn't arrive for three weeks :'(
