The RROD thread

Got my 360 back last week, they straight up replaced it which means fun re-associating all the content i've downloaded as i've got a new hard drive and sold off the old one with my other 360.

I shall note that this one is a LOT louder than the last one was and has frozen several times already.

  • 2 weeks later...

I've just ordered a new one today, resigned to the fact that the current one is buggered and is well out of warranty. Bought the Arcade pack I can just use the current hard drive. I don't think I've any DRM'd material on there, but my game saves are quite important to me.

By the way, there's a cheeky RROD reference on the new UK Terminator 3 blu-ray. The disc loading icon is the RROD.

To be fair, the repair service was excellent. Got collected on Thurs PM, was returned to me the following Tues PM.

Quite the opposite here. Reported it on the 12th May, finally got it picked up on the 22nd, got an e-mail on the 2nd to say it has just been delivered to the repair centre.

Can't say I'm holding my breath for a speedy turn around.

Well I've got had my second RROD today. It was freezing up a lot yesterday so I knew it was coming. It lasted 18 months since it's first repair, which was 18 months after it was first bought. I wonder if they can send it back in any worse condition this time, since last time it came back missing a memory slot cover and with one of the fans grating against the casing.

Hmm. My RROD'd 360 came back from the private repair shop the other day, and I played it last night without any problems. However, this night it's froze twice, on two different games. First was Grid, and it gave some sort of graphical error just as it froze. Next was The Force Unleashed, and there was a short high pitched noise right as it froze.

Before I sent it off for repair, it flew off the front seat of my car when I braked quite sharply. I fear that may have something to do with it, although I'm sure if there was something else wrong the repair shop would have told me and offered to fix it.

Had my 360 for 2 years 3 months. Is that a record?

2 years, 5 months and 11 days and mine is now fooooooked.

It's a Core too, so don't know what replacement would be. It's red ringed in the past a couple of times, but in those instances I've turned it off straight away, instantly back on, and all has been well. Now it seems properly jiggered. BOO!

Oh well, atleast I can keep my hard drive and mem card. I won't have any issues then with saves/arcade games right?

On the page where I put in a repair request, it's asking me to confirm my addess. If I leave it as it is (ie my home address) can I then get them to pickup/return it to my work address later in the process, or should I edit my info to reflect this in advance?

Mine's just within the 3 years warranty, and it just RRoDed. I turned it off and then on again and it worked fine but fuck me I nearly did a little poo. Back to MS I think. In all fairness it had been on for 8 hours, chipping away at Oblivion.

took a wee while on the phone but they agreed a free repair. Initially they wanted £90

How did you convince them to not take £90 off you?

Even though this isn't the most appropriate thread for this, I had no idea where else to place it.

I was in cex today and traded a few things in and got a decent amount (near 100) but no idea what to get, I spied a discounted 360 HDMI arcade with headset, wireless controller and component cable for 100 pounds. Seeing as I have to keep swapping over cables on my TV due to having a non HDMI launch model (long story), and that I could give my older one to my brother, I said why not.

Took it home, turned it on to test it and was puzzled to see it said it had 192 megs free of memory. But there was no memory card or hard drive plugged in. Hold on...

I looked at the PSU. 150 watts. What the fuck, it's a Jasper! I didn't expect that.

Then I noticed the lack of near any noise. This 360 is like a quiet hum. I only played games off the hard drive, but the noise level didn't rise at all. It's AS quiet as my 40 gig PS3. Insane.

How is the reliability on these babies then ?(englishbob will surely come and tell me they're all shite but some figures/impressions might be better) I've seen very little if anything of reports of Jasper's failing, I remember in September people trying to buy them and it was too early to tell at the time, but many months on how are they doing? Anyone here with a Jasper model had any problems?

Either way it's a shocking difference in noise alone from my launch model and from memory of a falcon that I've owned. Shocking.

I got one when they very first came on the market. Its been fine. One problem I have, is the dashboard can lag. Mainly if I go to watch a video, it takes a good second from click on "My Videos" and the next menu screen coming up. Can do the same with the guide button.

Yeah that dashboard lagging is do with your profile size and NXE being all shitty, nothing to do with hardware.
