Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II

The screen spins around 360* and Sonic stays centred in the middle, and it looks awful. And, of course, if you don't make it all the way around the loop and fall down halfway through, it spazzes around for a bit as it tries to level the camera

It's much easier to play on an iPad and in 2x, by the way. The level design seems fine enough up to now though, they've been fun to blast through at least.

But yeah, Sonic controls quite horribly, and it doesn't feel right at all. Which is a shame, because it looks nice enough.

This wasn't in the partnernet build

Sounds like someone saw the special stage in Sonic 1 and thought that's how it's done.

You haven;t seen what they've done with it this time

The iPhone version is appalling. A joke.

Care to elaborate? I've played the first couple of levels and had a grand old time. The controls work perfectly, the homing attack feels like a natural addition to the 2D series and the levels seem to have the expected multiple paths. I'm not a huge Sonic expert or fan, but it seems just right to me. Does it get shitter later on or something?

The extra two levels = mine cart and 100,000 score attack, baby!

It's not actually that awful though, truth be told. Probably the best post-S&K level design we've had in a Sonic game, and Sonic isn't much worse to control than he was in the Advance and Rush games. It could have been a whole lot better of course, if they just dumped a 3D-ified Sonic 2 sprite in there, but it's not quite as bad as I feared.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-10-07-average-sonic-games-removed-from-shops

...in which event Sega removes every single Sonic game from shops to make way for a new generation of... crap would be my best guess.

Sonic Colours is looking very good.

Which recent Sonic games don't have average metacritic scores? Sonic & Sega Racing...Mega Collection...what else? That article seems to be saying the DS games will be going, but I thought they were generally well received.

Only in that it feels natural that Sega would apply an extra coat of shit to everything Sonic.
