Well done sith, your strikers just seemed to take their chances (especially the headers) and, after you scored a couple, the momentum stat seemed to kick in and it was a struggle! Even the goals I did get were originally saved by the keeper and needed a tap in! I was happy with how I played though so hope to take this through to fifa 2010. Good luck in the prem!

sith 5-2 Donnie

The scoreline does not the reflect game one bit as I thought both teams were quite even but my strikers just had one of those days and that was the key really. Thanks for the game Donnie and good luck next season.

Finally Premiership time for me ;)

I'd missed this, well played sith. The cup specialist has taken his time getting back to the Premiership. The derby is back on.

West Ham Charge Into The Final

West Ham 3-0 Sampdoria

Sampdoria 2-6 West Ham

West Ham win 9-2 on aggregate

West Ham carried their excellent end of season form into the play-offs with two convincing wins to book a spot in the final, with Scratch's Hoffenheim likely to have taken note of these performances. Ashton opened the scoring in the first game with a back post header from a corner. Sloppy defending allowed first Parker, then Ashton to take advantage of the situation and add two further goals. Going in 3-0 at half-time, West Ham then sat back, determined not to concede an away goal for Sampdoria. Their tactics, while not the most pleasing on the eye, worked and gave the Hammers a great position going into the second leg.

Sampdoria looked as if they might overturn the deficit when they took the lead in the return leg. Pazzini pulled one back after his shot rebounded off the post into the unfortunate Green and into the goal. However, Sampdoria's hopes were soon dashed when Mark Noble cheekily chipped in a penalty after Cole was brought down in a melee of players in the box. This vital away goal left Sampdoria needing five to win the tie, and killed off any realistic chance they had. The Hammers began to assert their superiority and scored more goals through Dyer, Ashton, Cole (2) and another Noble penalty. Pazzini did grab a late consolation but the Italian side will be left wondering how this could have happened against a team who finished below them in the league.

The season continues for Bamber's Hammers, who now face Hoffenheim in the final, a side they had the better of in their league encounters.

Confirmed.

Well played, I thought I might just have a chance in the 2nd game to put some presure on after I took the lead, but I mucked it up giving away the first penalty. I was trying to bring the keeper out and managed to mash all the buttons. It was all over after that.

Good luck in the final.

Thanks for the games ASM. The penalty incident did look a bit messy so can understand how that happened.

It's hard to explain how things have changed really, because I was useless at the start of this season.

When you free to play scratch?

Is it even worth us playing this looking at our matches in the league this season?

I'm off work today if you are about, probably not available this evening.

(Weekend should be able to do anytime Strictly/xfactor is not on :D ).

Season Ends In Tears For Hammers

More to follow...

Hoffenheim 2-2 West Ham

I looked to be out of it 2-0 down at half time, after the way Dave took me apart in the league I set up ultra defensive hoping to nick a goal on the break, things didn't go to plan and I was a goal down at halftime, when Dave got another soon after the restart it looked to be all over, I had nothing to lose and went for it changing to all out attack and got back in with two quick goals. Durning The last 30mins of normal time we both had chances to win it but we finished at 2-2.

It was such a close game we decided it was unfair for it to be decided on penalities (I hope this is OK Mike :) ) and we set another match up.

West Ham 2-6 Hoffenheim

I stuck with all out attack and got a couple of early goals that to settle my nerves. The scoreline is misleading, this match was also very even, I just got all the luck and was fortunate to take the chances that fell to me.

Played Dave you were very unlucky there, with BeeJay dropping out I hope you get promoted as you deserve something after a stunning run in the second half of the season which saw you move from relegation to the playoff final. Hopefully see you next season.

(The Hull City vs Sheffield Wed contest is on hold again Harbey :) ).

Breaking News

Bamber Quits West Ham

"I'm proud of my players..."

Gianfranco-Zola-the-West--001.jpg

At the end of a rollercoaster season, OneDaveBamber has confirmed he will be leaving Upton Park following his side's play-off failure against 1899 Hoffenheim. A terrible start to the season had left the Hammers in a precarious position, with Bamber's job far from safe. Outraged by early defeats, Bamber had a showdown with his players, demanding they stand up and be counted. His playing staff responded to go on an unbelievable end of season run, including a win over the unpopular Sporting Clube de Portugal. Although they were ultimately unsuccessful in their promotion bid, West Ham earned many plaudits from the pundits (Chris Kamara excluded) for their remarkable turnaround.

Commenting on his season-long tenure Bamber said "It has been a privilege to work with this set of players. Under the previous manager they had picked up some bad habits, but after an initial bedding-in phase, they reacted well to what I asked of them and I'm extremely proud of what they accomplished." Given the good feeling between manager and player, Bamber's decision to leave appears strange, but Bamber is sure his decision is the right one. "I feel that I have perhaps let the players down with my tactics in the play-off final, and that they deserve to be playing at a higher level. I'm stepping aside to allow someone else to help them achieve that", said Bamber.

Bamber's next destination is as yet unknown, and the man himself is not yet sure where he is likely to end up. "Ideally, I'd like to be managing in League One, but that is out of my hands. Wherever my future lies, I am eager to get on the training ground once more for a fresh challenge", Bamber concludes.

Scores confirmed.

I really should have closed out that first game and gone more defensive after scoring the 2nd goal, but you did really well to come back and arguably could have pinched a 3rd. I think playing a 2nd game was the right thing to do as penalties would have been really cruel.

I think you're perhaps being a bit generous saying the 2nd game was even, as I think you deservedly won that one and outplayed me. I did have to go for it after falling behind and you punished the open spaces really effectively. Changing your tactics certainly worked and I failed to deal with the long ball in particular.

Congrats Scratch. Dave did amazingly to finish the season like he did but I think you deserved it overall.

I agree. Scratch was more consistent over the course of the season and having finished in 3rd place he thoroughly deserved it. No ill feeling from me, the better player went up.
