Guild Wars 2 - RLLMUK server: "Desolation"

Recommended Posts

I'm still playing this. I checked how many hours I'd done recently (/age in chat) and it was something insane like 1200+. :/

I have two level 80 chars now, a Thief and an Engineer. The Thief I only made pretty recently though but it's a lot different to play than Engi.

I got one of those dragon ticket things randomly (think it dropped from a dead guy in WvW) and got a shield, then I decided that I really wanted a pistol to go with it so I started collecting/buying the coffers that drop and opening those. Managed to get another ticket after opening about 1500 of the damned things (read posts on the forums though about people opening like 4000-6000 and not getting anything).

I really wish you hadn't mentioned /age. To be fair, I have done a bit of afking but only for a few hours.

Across all characters, you have played for 29 hours 54 minutes over the past 4 days.

So, are the legendary items BoE? I've seen people say that they sell for 1k gold or something. That would buy a lot of gems :D

You'll have to look around. If you want an active WvW guild, you could try IRON, but they are very WvW focused.

One of the biggest problems with Guilds in GW2 is that despite the fact that the game lets you be in several (switching between which one is "active" at will) it seems most of the guilds I see have circumvented that amazing feature, and instead have rules saying "if you've ever got another guild active then you'll be kicked".

IRON do this. Thing is, I like the IRON guys so I don't want to get kicked from that guild - which is why I never represent Muk in-game.

I thought IRON moved to Sea of Sorrows server in NA? From what I understand they moved because they were fed up of being stuck fighting Vizunah Square all the time in the old WvW rankings system (a lot of us were) and some people stayed behind and formed a new guild (INVI?).

The guild I'm in 'Extraordinary Gentlemen (EXG)' has quite a lot of members now - saw 70 on during Sunday - and do both PVE and WvW events. Could try applying there maybe df0?

IRON had two guilds - The IRON Triangle and The IRON Hall. Triangle was the main guild, for WvW stuff, then if people got bored of that, they had IRON Hall which you could join and do PvE stuff - but I think they only took people who had been through the Triangle guild first.

If that's true though, I've got no real desire to stay with them. I'm not moving from Deso. Might look into joining your guild.

Who's their most prominent officer? I'll whisper them next time I'm in game.

Remember guys. The meta achievement for the new event unlocks a quartz node in your home instance. Mineable once per day on any of your characters. It's possible this will be the only way to get quartz when the event is over. GET GRINDING.

The only thing that annoys me about the two week content patches is I'm on holiday in two weeks time so I'll miss the next one :)

In your home city there's a separate instance where your personal story dicks around early on. Then it never really gets used again. This is pass one at making it useful.

Ah, so for Norn where you meet with Eir? Ta :)

If you go back to your home city, and try to go back to that place, you'll have to enter an instance to go there. That's your "home instance".

You can also go to the "home instances" of other races, too - but you get a generic, bland version of that instance. What Flub and I are on about earlier is that generic instance won't be very different to a proper one! At least not right now. It looks like they're starting to add stuff though.

EDIT: Oh, also, you can party up with people and they'll all go to the leader's home instance, meaning you can invite other players "into your home". This is pointless now but might be useful in the future.

  • Shatterstone: This ability will no longer cancel when autoattack is engaged.

Oh thank god. That was driving me mad while leveling my Ele, I couldn't work out what was going wrong.

They've made Chaos Armor worse on the Mesmer, which has surprised the community it seems.

For those who don't know, Mesmers have combos that produce Chaos Armor, but the activated skill (#4 on Staff) had an extra inherent ability that has now been taken away. Now, the #4 skill is apparently worthless as it's easier to combo into getting the effect. They've increased the recharge time too I'm told. It's a very strange thing to change; I don't quite understand it.

I think it's time Arenanet fucked off with the jumping puzzles. Or at least started making them decent ones instead of shit that forces you to abuse the mechanics.

The traversal powers in the new area are a nice novelty, giving you an environmental puzzle that's a bit more involved. I can't really speak to the designated jumping puzzles, though, as I've only done one in Lion's Arch which I happened across by accident. Even if the quality doesn't keep up, I think they're a cool addition to the genre.

I've dabbled with a Mesmer but none of their weapon sets really appeal to me. The greatsword is probably my favourite but I just don't feel especially powerful using it, which I think is partially a visual thing. In comparison the Ranger's greatsword skills are a joy, sweeping through groups of enemies and allowing you to dive in and combo off trap effects. Is there perhaps something I'm missing with the profession?

Other than the aforementioned Ranger I also rather like the Engineer. The latter doesn't feel as powerful to me but I think they'll benefit a lot from Trait specialisation, especially as I stick to dual pistols during most fights; probably not the most efficient way to play, I just enjoy chucking down turrets and getting stuck in.

Aimless. Go get your achievement for 40 crystals. Follow a guide and see how stupid a lot of them are :)

I'm enjoying sanctum sprint. Does anyone know if the infinite frequent sprinter achievement counts towards the meta? It gives 0 points so I'm guessing it's there for people to get the meta just by running the races

Just done the jumping puzzle in Caledon forest for the easiest jumping puzzle kite achievement. Now I just need three more cheevos for the meta and I can relax :) Looks like I should be able to get all three of those doing the races which are stupid fun.

It's a very impressive zone. Big, vertical and looking surprisingly Cantha like. The new platforming mechanics are fun (Even if the crystal collecting isn't) and they make the sanctum races ace. I lucked out for the achievement for coming third. Every time you finish a race you get quartz and a piece of loot too (Level 80). FUCKING FAKE POWERUPS DIE DIE DIE. :)

I'm wondering how the achievement skins work. You get one chest a day so it'll take a while to clear any backlog. But it also says you choose a single skin from each tier. I'm hoping for two things. First that you can choose a fresh skin every day (So it just takes time to collect the set) and they're infinite supply like the HoM stuff. (Even one a day would be fine).

Nice. Just won a sprint race. That's one less achievement I need to get the meta :) My heart was pounding when I realised I was first and nearly at the end

I've found that spike damage is pretty low on a mesmer but they seem to be able to stay active in fights for much longer than a class with high spike damage which balances it out. However it's spike damage that makes you feel like a badass since you can drop regular mobs in seconds. That's probably the reason I don't get on with the class as much.

I find a lot of the fun with Mesmer is the subversive stuff you can do.

Like a common thing for me (using Sword/Focus and staff) would be...

  • Use Illusionary Leap with the sword. Creates a clone which leaps towards my enemy. The enemy hits the clone but then shortly turns and starts to run towards me. The moment the enemy gets near me...
  • Use the skill again which makes me swap places with the clone. Shatter the clone before the enemy kills it. The enemy turns around and runs towards me again.
  • Drop down a temporal curtain (focus skill 4). The enemy runs through it and tries to get back to me. Use the 4 skill again, which drags them away from me once more.
  • Use this time to switch to staff. Drop down two phantasms (warden and defender). Run towards the enemy.
  • Cast Chaos Field on them AND me as I approach. I gain positive effects, they take damage and gain negative effects.
  • Use illusionary retreat. Teleports backwards, leaves a clone in my place and grants me Chaos Armor as a combo. The enemy attacks the clone.
  • Before they kill the clone, use a shatter skill to put stacks of confusion on the enemy. The enemy again runs towards me.
  • Dodge left, then right. I have the trait that leaves a clone of myself every time I dodge. If the enemy still tries to attack me, use blink to immediately teleport 30 feet away. The enemy is usually busy with the two clones I've left.
  • Cast Chaos Armor.
  • Switch back to sword/focus.
  • Use illusionary leap again. The clone dashes up to the enemy.
  • Swap places with the clone. Engage the enemy close-up as I have Chaos Armor still active.
  • When the enemy is close to death, use Blurred Frenzy and Mind Wrack. During the frenzy I'm invulnerable and deal damage.
  • The clones dash up to the enemy and shatter. By this point, the enemy is usually dead.

It's a lot to think about, but it's really fun once you get the hang of it. Generally it's all about staying alive through keeping the enemies running after clones and dealing damage using them and your own skills. I've soloed enemies which are supposed to be trouble for an individual using methods like this, because you can avoid damage for so long and gradually wear enemies down.

Running up to an enemy and as they attack, <boom> and there are 4 of me (3 clones and myself) - then the enemy runs up to a clone and you yell "WRONG ANSWER!" and they all explode. Priceless.

I found an ace little short cut in the sprint race right at the end that's let me steal 1st place twice now by coming at the finish line from the other side. It's not a bug either. It's obvious it's intended. There's a jump boost bonus positioned right next to it that of no use at all if you don't use it for the shortcut :)

A nice little content update I think.

How easy would it be for low level characters to finish the meta? I've split my attention between a few alts so my highest is only 19. I may not make much use of it but I'd like to grab it in case :D
