Guild Wars 2 - RLLMUK server: "Desolation"

I can never decide between long and short bow for my ranger. I like the long bow skills but the auto attack is far too slow. Love the rain of arrows. The short bow feels far, far better for general use but lacks any real aoe. I do love the great sword there.

Armour through the Ages (shame it's mostly trenchcoats but there you go):

Starter armour!

Cheapo green armour I got as soon as I hit 80.

First set of Exotic Karma armour.

Different Exotic armour transmuted to Rascal's armour (the Knight Exotic looked horrendous). Still have the starter monocle because it's ace.

A gun! Exotic rifle transmuted from Rare because it also looked terrible before.

I've gone back to Planetside 2 temporarily, but will dip in and out from time-to-time, like I did with Guild Wars 1. Not having a sub fee is great for that; you can just keep it installed and get into it when you want.

The servers are certainly still busy.

Is planetside also an mmorpg? Worth getting into?

I play quite regularly (although it's competing with Dark Souls for my time now) but I definitely found it much better after joining a Guild.

I mostly play World vs World or the sPvP maps, only ever done a handful of the PVE dungeons.

Thinking about trying Planetside 2 also.

I'm really annoyed now. I've been having trouble getting my Windows PC (Which while not top of the line is perfectly Ninja enough for GW2) to run GW2 well. I've got a 3GB 7950 gfx card. 8 gig of ram and a i5 2500k clocked at 3.7ghtz. The frame rate is all over the fucking shop. That's at 1080p

I get a new 27 inch iMac. Slower cpu. Gfx card that while not a slouch (GTX 660m) doesn't hold a candle to the 7950 and the whole thing runs at a monster fucking rez. Result? Rock solid 30 fps. I have no clue what's going on.

Here's a screengrab. (It's a bit big)

*Edit* Oh yeah. the mac version isn't a native app. It's the Windows version in a custom wine wrapper. Madness

On your PC, first check if you have hardware AA forced in your graphics options - THEN check if Guild Wars 2 is using supersampling. You can get away with one or the other, but having both on will cause slowdown and the visual increase is incredibly minor.

Also, you playing in WvW? The new WvW patch brought in some changes that might cause performance problems - they're working on fixing some inherent bugs in the culling system the mode uses.

Neither. Loads of people are complaining about it on the forum. It changed between patches. Arenanet seem to be ignoring it. Used to get stupidly good speeds (Considering GW2 is unoptimised junk). A good way to see if you've been effected is to right mouse turn. Your frame rate will plummet.

I sorted out my FPS problems. It seems sometime in the last few patches I've started being affected by a longstanding bug to do with core parking in Windows 7 and Windows 8. For reference my iMac (In MacOS), Windows 8 laptop and Windows 7 piss poor machine at work aren't hit by this at the moment.

When core parking is turned on and you're affected you'll see a massive drop in fps when doing anything other than basically nothing and no gfx settings will change it for better or worse. You can notice very heavily when mouselooking. When I downloaded an app to switch the registry settings so core parking was off the problem vanished totally.

http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/53463-disabling-core-parking-for-gw2/

https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/support/tech/FPS-TIP-Quickly-increase-your-FPS-on-multicore-CPU

You don't have to edit the registry by hand. There are apps to do it for you. This isn't just a subjective fix for me. It's massive and constant. Back to the performance levels I was getting before. With the bug I could sit in Queensdale at 25 fps and as soon as I moved the view it would drop to almost single figures and start flopping around. With the problem gone I get nearly 100fps with everything at lowest detail and about 35-40 with everything cranked up and supersampling on. Go figure.

Back for one of my irregular sessions with this. I had a craving. Currently playing my level 36 guardian Jim Dynamite. The living world stuff is interesting. I like that they've changed the statue in Lion's Arch again too.

I'm still playing this fairly regularly. The Living Story updates are great, if only because it gives all the servers a massive population boost whenever there's new stuff, and hey, some of it is actually quite fun.

I should really get back into this. Well I say back, I only played to level 20 or so before becoming distracted when the game first came out. Neverwinter is also calling me though, I wish I had more time :( .

My guardian just hit 40 and I'm rolling around the south end of Lornar's Pass. It's very pretty. Earlier an army of us obliterated an incursion of steam punk creatures and then totally failed to kill a champion mouse with a book.

I'm playing with the Mac client on a new model 27 inch iMac. I can't have the detail up too high. I don't have the gfx memory but it's still a very pretty game

The Molten Facility dungeon and the Super Adventure Box were both really good, the former having some nice setpieces and an Ornstein and Smough-style boss duo at the end, and the latter being an April Fools' joke that was surprisingly fleshed out, in the form of a hybrid Mario-ish/Zelda-ish 3D platformer. I haven't had a chance to try the new temporary dungeon yet (Aetherblade Retreat), but it's supposedly pretty hard on account of its action-based mechanics rather than having bosses with ridiculous health bars, which sounds promising! Also welcome is the apparent return to GW1-style cinematic cutscenes in the Living Story updates, instead of the two-person conversation pop-outs used in the old dungeons and the Personal Story.

I've found the game much more pleasant since I started using Combat Mode 1.1 with the gold ring cursor mentioned in the comments (there are newer versions, but they seem dodgier in their implementation), which basically gives you Witcher-style camera control and saves you holding down the right mouse button all the time.

Level 48 and I just ended up in the Dredgehaunt cliffs. Earlier I found a lovely event. A giant called fen wanted to visit his friends but he wouldn't fit in the cave. I had to go collect spores so he could make a potion to shrink himself. Then I had to escort him in.

His friends were all dead. He was visiting the graves. First his visited his love Elise. After he walked away her ghost appears and you can talk to her. Then he visits the other graves which includes his son.

So sad.

My guardian is early 50s now and I've decided to take a break to play my ranger. A struggle at first but I've rearranged my traits and settled on short bow/greatsword for now. It's a shame the long bow doesn't really do it for me. 5 points in BM does help keep my pets alive though.

Ranger is at 45 currently.
