The Walking Dead!

Christ, for a second I thought that was the mid-season cliff-hanger. But there's one next week right? Right?!

A total nothing episode that one. It seemed like they'd skipped an episode with everything happening and us just having to fill in the rest. And that bloody derelict yard set. FFS, it was like out of 70s Dr Who.

Guys if you follow the official Walking Dead facebook page, dont go on facebook until you've seen the new episode. I haven't seen the episode yet, just finished airing on the East coast and they put up a huge spoiler.

I am fuming, I can't believe they did that. Especially since west coast viewers haven't seen it yet.

It keeps on being bumped to the top of the news feed as people comment on it - and even if you don't like the page you might still see it if one of your friends comments.

Basically, stick to RLLMUK and nowhere else.

It is fucking crazy how whoever runs that facebook page thought it was a good idea. They all should be fired. It is like they dont understand about West coast feeds or that there are people all over the world who haven't seen it yet.

A lot of people are mad and for good reason. You dont see this shit go on with any other TV shows Facebook pages.

Bit of a wheel-spinner of a mid-season finale, I thought, though it had its moments.

Sadly, I saw Beth's death coming a mile off, not least because they spent most of the episode with her, as they always do with any character who's about to buy it. It was also obvious that they were building towards a major death, as otherwise it would have been a bit of a flat way to begin a hiatus. AND they made too big a play of telling Maggie that Beth was alive when previously she couldn't have given less of a fuck.

(Also, I don't know if this is me reading too much into it, but in the earlier scenes with Beth she looks thoroughly pissed off, as if the actress couldn't quite hide her disappointment at being killed off.)

Still, it was effectively done and affectingly played, particularly by Norman Reedus. The other thing I really liked was the opening with Rick, which was properly dark. I like that they're taking risks with the character.

Worst bit? Undoubtedly the bit with the vicar, and the small group of zombies that not only managed to pick their way through the spiked barricade, but grew into an entire horde in the space of about 30 seconds. Also, I don't buy that Michonne and Carl would risk destroying the door just to save him, and then abandon the church entirely when presumably all but a handful of the zombies were in that one room with the floor hole (it certainly appeared that way when they re-barricaded the door from the outside). Just that whole part felt incredibly clunky. Recently the show's worked hard to avoid such contrivances, so perhaps that's why I found it all the more jarring.

I didn't think it was particularly well done personally - suffered the same problem as much of the rest of the series, that you allude to in your second paragraph, with really clumsy editing and continuity. I think the bus flip was probably the worst single example but there were plenty of others: the bits in the latest episode mentioned above, the awful attempt at a cleverer episode structure in the Carol & Daryl episode, etc. It really undermines what they do manage to do right.

Enjoyed the short-cut taking zombies. Clever buggers.

Also, in case anyone missed it, there was another post-credits scene

I saw it this time!

As the episode was ending I remembered about Morgan. Since he hadn't shown up since then I watched the end credits just in case and right enough, another post-credit scene.

Probably didn't need the tags but just to be safe.

Thinking back the episode was full of stupid moments:

The vicar guy's pointless trip only to leg it back and bring with him a thousand zombies from nowhere. And them all getting through the spikes

Abraham driving into their only mode of transport into the zombie defence and the church stairs - no way he could have known what was going on there when he did that.

The trained police officers failing to see the snipers just across the road and not even trying to hide.

The whole part at the end, Rick and his group were practically out of the building when Mrs Cop demanded Everybody Hates Chris. So instead of just leaving, or ushering the rest of the people out of the corridor before just shooting her they decide to all come back in and meet in the middle.

Beth bringing scissors to a gunfight.

Still enjoyable and that moment was genuinely shocking in execution with great reactions from Daryl and Rick. Didn't care much for Beth but seeing Daryl's reaction made it quite upsetting. :(
