Is the Children of Dune adaptation starring young McAvoy any good? Think it’s a three-part thing on Prime.

Marks out of 10?

McAvoy's great.  The rest is often wonky, cheap and camp.  It's not as dull as the first mini series though.  7/10. *

* Edit: Not a real 7/10. Couldn't just leave that there on the slim chance someone thought I thought it warranted that score.

Clearly I've been on onboard the Villeneuve+Dine train since the beginning. With positive reviews (which I won't read due to sort of  spoilers about how he handles the book) I'm all in on day one. Totally going to sadsack loner view this one of we can't get babysitting or find a willing buddy to view it.

It is Mrs Monkeydog's birthday that week, so I'm sure she won't mine if I book a day off to suprise her. With a film. Which is Dune.

Both film adaptations of Stephen King’s IT were good that’s also a long book. Though thankfully they missed out stuff like the underage child gangbang in the sewers.

I have good feelings about this film. Covid has given filmmakers a decent period of grace to get their movies right.

I really hope I’m wrong, but one of the Harkonnen’s looked like Polka Dot Man from Suicide Squad.

Oh balls, it *is* him. Then again Zendaya as Chani is probably going to be harder to get past. I really wish they’d gone with a majority of unknown actors for this.

I suppose I should put some faith in their acting skills.

David Dasmalcian has been in several Denis Villeneuve films, he’s not just Polka Dot Man! He always lends a creepy presence. I read Dune this year picturing him as De Vries and I can assure you it worked. In my head.

I read it last year for the first time in preparation for the film and loved it. I have posted my thoughts about that and the 1984 film already in this thread, I’ll have forgotten all that by the time the film actually comes out.

Denis Villeneuve gave me Arrival and BR2049 so I have complete and utter faith that this is going to be brilliant, I just hope it does well enough to allow the second part to be made.

Phew. The first review I came across was the Indiewire one and, since I hadn't seen any of the positive ratings, I got very worried. Phew!

Wouldn't trust a David Ehrilich review as far as I can throw him. He hates big budget films and its very rare he gives any film anything above a 3.5/5. Seems to be a film critic that hates films.
