Kendrick Lamar's new album Good Kid M.A.A.D City has leaked and it's really fucking good. Sort of a loose concept album about his teenage years in Compton, cruising the streets in his mother's van and getting into shit.

Finally checked it out today and while I certainly admire the ambition behind the whole conceptual angle, it kinda dragged a bit for me halfway through. In saying that, I do believe he really nailed the whole epic/event album thing, kinda like how Kanye went out on the Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album. It's maybe just a wee bit too overblown for my tastes. But you've got to take your hat of to the kid Kendrick. Kanye was an established veteran mega superstar when he attempted his 'epic.' Kendrick is only on his second long player.

All that aside, I'm damned if I've heard many better tunes this year than 'Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe':

Been rinsing that track today, while the rest of the album just sort of passed me by. This track, though: omfg. He's on some vintage Outkast shit, by way of Sa Ra Creative Partners. Absolutely love it.

Yeah, that's probably my favourite Joey Bada$$ tune. The beat is incredible. It's one of the few instrumentals that he raps over that isn't some re-cycled, reappropriated classic beat. It was produced by Chuck Strangers from Joey's Pro Era click. Most of the other beats you hear on Bada$$ tapes have been plucked from pre-95 or so. That Chuck Strangers instrumental certainly sounds like it should come from that era. Pretty amazing.

Immortal Technique was pretty fucking good at the ABC in Glasgow on Tuesday night. I was extremely pressed with how bassy but clear the sound system was in there. 400 folk there, a few mad punters getting pulled out by security for fighting (at an IT gig?!?) in the pit. Did a selection of stuff inc 4 personal faves Dance with the Devil, Caught in a Hustle, Angels n Demons and Bin Laden. If you get a chance to see him, do. Brother can preach too, got the place riled up.
