I'd just like to say that that since getting a copy of Russian Roulette a few days ago I'm continually struck by how utterly amazing it is. It's not so much of a producer-driven rap album as it is a brilliantly crafted collage of sound equally lo-fi, massive, and eccentric and glued together by guest spots that rarely fail to punch you in the nuts. I've found it impossible to listen to anything less than its whole 45 odd minutes every time it's been stuck on. What fucking more do you want?

Alchemist:: Russian Roulette. Everyone needs this album.

I went to the Q&A of the Art of Rap last week with Ice T answering questions.

I thought it was a well put together doc, no real direction, but throughly enjoyable. He said they shot 70 hours of footage which had to be whittled down to 2 for the film, so I'm looking forward to some bumper dvd extras.

I recommend a watch as that IMDB rating is a bit harsh.

I can't believe Nardwuar gave El-P one of those Criminal Minded USB sticks, I forced my old boss to stock those where I used to work. Not one single fucker got sold and I forgot to even get one myself before I left

Does rllmuk fuck with Lil Ugly Mane? I grabbed Mista Thug Isolation a couple days ago and it's pretty good. Wouldn't say he's a particularly gifted MC but I really dig his production, plus he does his own hilarious album art.

If you're in the mood for something ignorant and aggressive you could do a lot worse.

I'm so late with this, I'd never even heard of it until the other day but I just watched the Rock the Bells documentary where they got Wu-Tang back together just before ODB's death. What a fucking treat. I've seen some promoters close to having breakdowns before but this was pretty much the definition of biting off more than you can chew.

In case anyone who's interested hasn't seen it:

Anyone else checking out Alchemist's new project?

Russian_Roulette.jpg

It's very, very, very fucking bizarre. Like an album of trippy skits and sketches, all the musical samples taken from Russian records, kinda on some Oh No / Madlib geo-conceptual tip. I'm enjoying it, though. It's just fucking weird. Samples are just left to ride out, he doesn't seem to have fucked around or chopped them up much, especially on the instrumental tracks. Action Bronson, Roc Marciano, Danny Brown, Evidence and Guilty Simpson make brief lyrical appearances, so it's gonna be worth a check. A real curio this one.

Really like it, it's an album you MUST listen to from start to finish. Quality! :)

Totally, he's clued up on his music. His dad was a techno DJ in Detroit when all that was starting. I think that's part of the reason why he fucks with so many electronic style beats. Speaking of which, check the track he lays down at 17:19 in this nice little documentary:

Fucking stunning. The beat and the rhymes.

Arthur Lee's a total forerunner to wild cards like him so I guess it makes sense for him to be into it. Still cool and surprising to hear it though.

Forever Changes would definitely be a contender for me!

Can't get enough of Roc Marciano at the moment.

His stand out appearances on a slew of great albums and mixtapes this year (Vodka & Ayahuasca, Ohnomite, Blue Chips, Respect The Fly Shit, Russian Roulette etc) got me hankering bad for the next proper solo release.

This new vid passed me by:

And this still kills me:

Listening to this for the first time just now:

No_Idols-460x460.jpg

Odd Future dude over 100% Alchemist beats, and I'm talking old school, traditional Alchemist beats. The type of thing you'd hear Dilated Peoples or Mobb Deep over. Not really that recent psychedelic thing he's being doing so well lately, but the whole thing sounds nice so far. Alchemist is on fire right now. Guest spots are pretty killer and mad diverse: Action Bronson, Freddie Gibbs, Prodigy, Smoke DZA, Spaceghostpurrp, Tyler the Creator and Earl Sweatshirt, of course.

Download HERE.

No Idols Tracklist:

2. Fuck Everybody Else

3. All Alone

7. Till the Angels Come [ft. Freddie Gibbs and Prodigy]

8. The Daily News [ft. Spaceghostpurrp, Earl Sweatshirt, and Action Bronson]
