Can Xenia run through Retroarch?

If the answer to that is 'yes', can I please become a recipient of a PM too?

I am not entirely sure, but Retroarch itself is a wrapper for multiple emulators which they call "cores". Essentially, it can run any emulator that lets you use launch options, I suppose. It appears that there is a xenia core, but you'll need a beefy pc to run it. It won't run on A Pi or a PlayStation classic or anything.

Well I've already got RA running om my fairly ok-ish laptop, up to the Dolphin (Gamecube) core which runs pretty smoothly. Not sure if it can handle a 360 core but I guess I'll find out soon enough. Cheers mate!

Yeah, at 1080p I am getting some stuttering on Goldeneye on my 2070. I think it might be CPU related though, as I only have an I7-5820.

Ooohhhh-kay... 1050 with i5-7300 here. 720p it will be, hopefully.

I know I keep bringing this up, but Retroarch is the emulator you can get running on Series X, right? So, it should be possible to get Goldeneye running if there’s a Xenia core that works with it?

Sorry, I’m just getting excited at the thought of playing it on my X!

I went to start this up on my 360, was a bit lackadaisical with the controller and accidentally fired up Ridge Racer 6. Thought I'd check my progress, having not played it for years, only to see I was at the very last race. I'll just finish this final race before playing Goldeneye I thought. That was two hours ago and can I fuck beat the cheating bastard last car with their continuous magic nitrous. Pulled the plug in disgust. Going to have a relaxing coffee away from technology for half an hour then do what I intended. Play Goldeneye.

As you were.

I spotted "Beat n Groovy" whilst faffing with this yesterday., so had a quick go for old times sake, then I opened " Tony Hawk Pro HD" I did NOT play it, just left it playing some music, I'm sure it can't have aged well, and it was piss poor to begin with, went back to Goldeneye, played up to the Satellite mission, then done a bit of Cyberpunk... think the best game I played yesterday was Goldeneye :)

I had read elsewhere that you should edit the Xenia config file to set the res at or lower than 1080p. I'm not going to link to the Reddit post as it links to the game, but there was some discussion about that. The config should be found in your Documents folder.

An RGH 360 is a damn fucking prize. Though it can be a minefield if you fire it up to play a specific game as you can fall down a very deep hole. I did something similar to my above with Binary Domain a few weeks back and ended up playing Guardian Heroes to near completion instead.

Got to be careful how you scroll to your intended, I very rarely get past Outrun Arcade.

Stop it, I had to force myself past Coast 2 Coast yesterday, I might have to fire it up in a bit, once I've sorted the day's post out, I'm shit at Outrun, always have been, doesn't mean it's not fun though, but then there is RR6 as you mentioned, still love that game , fuck, so many good titles sitting on that console, 360 really was a great system.

Sorry what was I thinking.  I’ll play Superman 64 to completion as punishment. Surely the below is blasphemy....unless the poster below was 2 years old on its original release but even then that no excuse!!!

Nah, no one could be THAT cruel, playing Superman 64 is a punishment reserved for Rishi ;)

As for never playing Goldeneye before, well, personally I think we should feel sorry, for all the joyless years said poster as experienced since it's release.... they could also only be in their early 20's and genuinely missed out on it through being too young, we're not all pensioners here, although granted, I think most of us are

I definitely feel like a geriatric gamer.  This game is what, 24 years old.   Anyway I gave it a quick go on a ye old 360 dual stick controller (yuk ;)).  Love it, looks very clean and sharp.  I may try and get gyro controls working with my Steam controller so I can actually hit enemy’s lol

I have a 2700x and a 2060 super. Had some very obvious stuttering. I don't think Xenia plays well with AMD Cpus.

However, in the config file I changed the setting license_mask to 1 for an XBLA title, that seemed to help a lot!

I'd not played the story part of Goldeneye, but my housemate had an N64 with it at uni and we'd play multiplayer on that with visitors quite a bit, well, when they weren't playing ISS64.

This is running fine with a few hitches on my 2070 and i7-8700. I like how the default is inverted Y - they had good taste.

Love how satisfying the rumble is when shooting, it took me right back to those early days of console gadget wonder with that new fangled rumble pack thing. I mean I've played how many frigging first person shooters in the interim yet this immediatly took me back and felt unique. I may be being a bit rose tinted here but didn't Goldeneye have a really distinct shooting rumble? The 360 pad with this game feels exactly the same. Magic.

Love that Bond is wearing my watch too. Good taste.

Oh, and I've just almost beat RR6 but was pipped by a hair, and this is the real ending, the last race in the Master route, not the fake out ending. I'll get the bastard though.

This runs pretty good on an i7-4790k with a 3070 at 720p. The odd stutter but nothing to complain about. By far the best version going, and enough to finally make me set up the pc for tv out again. I can see me finishing this over the weekend.

I really hope the leak makes the people involved sort out the licensing issues and get this out there for everyone to enjoy again.

TBH, from what I've played on other modern emulators, I'm pretty sure the stutters are pretty much to do with shader caching instead of anything grevious. It'll probably take a few runs of each level to make it consistently smooth, providing the emulator keeps the cache.

But yeah, I'm impressed with how easy Xenia was to run compared to RCPS3 and Cemu, as it's my first time using it - just point it to the xex file and away you go.

Anyway, compared to the typical N64 emulation of Goldeneye, this is so much nicer even with the stutter. I'm really curious to see if the system link stuff was fully fleshed out - a bit of tunneling software to make a LAN setup would make it a great alternative to sticking it on Parsec.

What a lovely reminder to how great GoldenEye still is.

Yes, it's fuzzy and after an hour playing, I think I have a headache after not being able to focus clearly, but the game holds up well. Great control, fantastic combat, still excellent mission and level design, and with everything running at a smooth framerate and in 16:9, it shows its age well.

GoldenEye - Dam

GoldenEye - Facility

GoldenEye - Surface

I still think apart from the blurriness and the larger, outdoor areas where you can't see shit in the distance, the original graphics still have a lot of charm. I like how bold and dark they are. It's so much nicer to play with two sticks as well, it feels very smooth. Somebody said the free aim is twitchy, but I think that's just how things are without the original lengthy and precise N64 analogue stick, unfortunately. Selecting items using the watch is still a real fudge, which could've done with an update, but you can't complain too much, aye. :)
