God I just can't get excited about this at all. I think it's because they're showing no context in terms of overworld/story/characters and everything looks really familiar but with 'twist the wiimote' bits in. And the graphical style still just isn't all that impressive. And the HUD is shit.

I'm surprised by how cold that left me. I figured seeing the game much later into it's dev cycle would have far more to show than the mixed introduction we got to it. That was seriously bland.

OOT was one of the best games of that decade, and Wind Waker is just timelessly charming. Majora's Mask felt pretty unique. Repeating the OOT formula has been happening for years, but it's always needed something unique to spark off the games, like WW and MM. SS looks so by the numbers so far, that it's a serious turn off.

What the fucking fuck, half the screen is taken up by the nunchuck and wiimote.

At E3 last year they said the hud had been made bigger to help people play the demo (show controls and stuff)... its still here! <_< Not the end of the world but still <_<

We just need to know more about how it's going to play... I need the formula shaken up a bit, to try and rekindle the whole feeling of discovery you get with your first Zelda game...

I loved TP though, so I have every faith that this will be brilliant. Which is what you would expect of me.

It looks fantastic, graphically, but maaaaaaan they just need to come up with some new tricks, I am a bit fed up of pushing blocks, lighting the torches, etc :)

I WANT TO BELIEVE.

Pushing torches?!?

Lighting blocks?

But seriously, it looks that WM+ allows for combat to integrate the puzzles, AFAIK I have never seen something like this, its a bit like SOTC where the bosses are the stages themselves, or Ikaruga where the color code is a meta-game, or portal where the portal gun allows to interact with the stages.

I dont really understand the worries about this game...it looks like its going to add so much to previous Zelda. I always got my combat cravings satiated by Ninja Gaiden/DMC/VJ, but it sems that SS will make a step towards combat gameplay in its unique way.

Oh and I am a sucker for lightgun shooters, bring on Link's crossobw training 2 integrated into SS I say!

I think it looks amazing.

I am very excited.

The whole Zelda structure will not change, it will still be - Overworld, Dungeon, Overworld, Dungeon.... end.

It doesn't need to change its a great structure. I'm not jumping on the "Change it up" bandwagon, I simply wish to see the creative efforts invested in the design of the Dungeons themselves. Give me cool scenarios and weird interesting things to do throughout the game.

The trailer appeared to show off many cool ways of interacting with the game via the waggle stick, looks interesting!

More dungeons like that snow mountain / Yeti's home one from TP.

I don't think the structure need to change, but the puzzles and the like do. They've been recycling the same ideas for a long time now. I agree that items should have some use outside the dungeon they are first used for. That was one major failing in TP, cool gadgets that had no use outside one dungeon.

A big thing for me after TP is an interesting overworld. I want to find hidden areas, lot's happening, lot's of side quests etc. TP was very barren and large. I'd rather have a smaller world with more in it.

I'm pretty sure Edge said not long ago that the structure of the game was going to be changed and I'm sure Miyamoto made noises to that effect as well.

I think I just need to see a context to all this M+ stuff they're showing off. Some NPCs, a town, anything. They've not shown anything to hook us conceptually like 3 days to save the world, sailing the high seas or twilight realm/wolf transformation etc. I still feel I don't know what it's actually about.

Fewer items that are only useful in a very specific place/dungeon please.

I'm looking at you TP spinning top!

There were loads of little places dotted around the landscape that you could use the spinning top on.

I remember seeing the tracks in a canyon early on in the game and wondering what they were for. It was good to go back once I'd got the ability.

I think that looks pretty amazing myself. You can tell they've put crowbarred a lot of proper remote stuff in this time.

Fixed.

I think it looks crap with half the screen filled up with controller maps and there seems to be an awful lot of waggle in there too. But then, I haven't enjoyed a single big screen Zelda since Majora's Mask so what do I know.

Isn't it funny...when they first showed off WW everyone went nuts. This isn't Zelda, it looks teh kiddiz etc. But it was actually a classic. People look back at it today and realise how good it actually was.

Then they show off TP and everyone went nuts. This is just an up-port from the GC, it looks teh emo, why do they never change. People look back today and realise how good it actually was. Look at the 25th anniversary thread - full of people saying how good it actually was now they've had time to reflect.

So now they show off SS (that's not the best acronym to go with Mr Nintendo) and everyone is going nuts. This is the same old thing, it looks bland, there are no new ideas....

Anyone wanna bet me that in a couple of years we'll look back and this one and all agree that actually it was pretty damn fantastic?

It's amazing how people are always prepared to throw away years and years of quality Zelda releases on the back of about 30 seconds of GDC footage.

They crow barred motion control into Twilight Princess, not this. Plus the controller hud will not be there, or at least will be a setting, in the final version.

All that trailer seemed to show about the combat is that specific sword motions will be required to defeat certain enemies, which they telegraph pretty clearly. I can see more powerful or better armoured enemies being more like a mini-puzzle in themselves as you seek to hit the weak point & remove or open up their defense, like the armoured knights in TP.

@rgraves I think you'll find that a lot of people here think that Wind Waker and Twilight Princess weren't a patch on Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask.

Ocarina of Time is a pretty high bar, it's perfectly possible for a game to be 'fantastic' and yet still short of being better than the best game of all time right?

Of is fantastic just not good enough now, do they really have to beat Ocarina with each subsequent release or else risk being called 'not good enough'?

I love Wind Waker and though TP was good, but both had faults. Wind Waker was obviously rushed with a couple of dungeons missing towards the end that could have taken the game to the next level. Although I did go against much opinion at the time and loved the look of the game and the sailing.

In contrast TP nailed the dungeons, but I did find the overworld very bland.

So far I'd say it's hard to comment on SS, as that footage only shows some fighting really. We know little about the map, the story, the dungeons etc. Until that appears it's hard to comment on.

Come on, man. The people who didn't like Wind Waker's style and Twilight Princess' style aren't the same people. And that thread isn't 'full of people' changing their mind about TP, there's about 3 individuals in there.

There have been a few games since Majora's Mask (or Wind Waker for some) that just haven't interested people. Maybe people are getting tired of the formula; we have had other games that I think Zelda could learn from to keep fresh. There's no problem with people voicing disappointment in light of these new trailers/pictures; they've obviously not seen things they agree with or haven't been given the information that will pique their interest. When this happens with other games, some developers listen to concerns and try to address them.

There's no hidden agenda, there's no conspiracy. This has been happening with many games for a long time, with recent examples being nu-Devil May Cry, Tom Clancy's SSX and Call of Duty...in Space! causing concern (and nobody complained about the complainers for those games). If the trailer for a game looks boring, then the company hasn't done the right thing for the bored. That's it.

PS The game trailers haven't piqued my interest either. I'd like the game to though.
