The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

It's clear a lot of people struggled with the controls, not only fighting physically with/against them, but in denial of the whole waggle thing. I bought into it and loved it. The controls made it for me. Luckily for everyone else waggle is dead. And whilst a bit of me laments there will never again be a Zelda with such experimental controls, I'm happy for it to be more enjoyable for everyone without. It's Christmas. Goodwill to all!

:) Agree the controls were mostly fine and for sword fighting etc they worked incredibly well... just accurately trying to attack things when flying was incredibly "challenging". Like I say though may just be me not getting on with the controls for this bit or not getting the knack of flying properly. May have another crack at it... :)

Haven't fought this flying boss yet so I'm not looking forward to that but I agree about the padding. I'm going for the final sacred flame and I had to go back to Floria Woods and get that mechanical robot to carry a basin. Head back to Eldin Volcano and he says "Oh you wanted it up there, why didn't you tell me that?" Well, probably because the game didn't give me a fucking choice and now it tells me I have to fight my way up again and defend him. I haven't attempted it yet so I'm sure it won't be hard but to me this seems pointless.

I hope that the remasters of Ocarina and Majora's as well as the well paced A Link Between Worlds on 3DS will make Nintendo get their priorities right for the next game. But yeah, I also fear that the open world will be a largely empty sprawl with lots of busybody fetching and padding to make sure we get to see every corner of it at least a dozen times.

It will be interesting to see what others make of the flying boss when they get to it LOL. I'm determined to beat this thing now... my journey on this game has been epic LOL started in Christmas 2011!!! Really want it done before the next full Zelda adventure gets released. :)

I didn't get that far, I switched off when the moaning about the controls and padding went on as long as the opening cutscenes of the game itself.

I don't give a fuck about the "canon" or timeline or whatever as I consider every game just to be its own story instead of part of one large epic.

And so, just like the German and Allied troops playing football on Christmas Day, for one day only we agree. x

"So skyward sword came first, right, and established that Zelda was special or something and that Link was destined to save her, then a bunch of other games came along, then ocarina of time happened and the other games fit into one of three branching timelines based on what happened at the end: link is sent back in time to relive his childhood, what happened to adult link's hyrule once he was sent back and what would happen if link failed and...wait...where are you going? This is important! Come back! Please? COME BAAAAAAAACK!"

The timeline is nonsense that should be ignored and only serves to please Asperger suffering OCD nerds.

It was probably dreamed up in an afternoon by some bored Nintendo producers tasked with developing the Zelda 25th anniversary book.

Even Miyamoto has commented that each is a "retelling" of a legend in a way. It ties in with the notion that Nintendo has an array of game franchises and they build apon them with each release or console generation. It's all a reboot of the familiar, only "tweaked and improved".

Okay, done the flying boss. I can see why people found the first part tough. I manage to take out three of the eyes without too much problems but it took me another 30 minutes to get the last one that was on his lower right. Once you get passed that and fight the actual boss on his back it was straight forward... unless there is another flying boss I've yet to encounter. Just about to learn the final part of the Song of the Hero now.

Just switched this on and had a good session on it.

I DID IT! :D Finally! I can now move on through the game. 63 hours and counting.... Must say I have enjoyed this mostly... The positives outweigh the odd niggle like this flying boss. :D

Must say I cannot wait for the next Zelda on the Wii U its going to be epic. These are fantastic games, the production values, the epic soundtrack and the genius that has gone into making everything fit together.

When pre-orders are open my money is going down. Might even go for a special edition version this time.

Just playing this today and clearing this boss made me realise why I loved console gaming in the first place. Right going to be ordering me some Mario for the Wii U and Pikmin 3 (loved the demo) when I'm done with this.

Cheers Nintendo I think you just rekindled my love of gaming again. :D

Hmm, so I'm replaying this again after giving up a ways into it at release, after I found it getting increasingly padded and tedious. I thought I'd give it another shot, I'm the forgiving type. Anyway, if you'd told me that the content immediately after I gave up first time around was an awful flying bit, a terrible forced stealth/losing all your equipment section and then having to fight the same annoying shitty boss two more times in the same sitting I wouldn't have believed you

And then the tadtones. The tadtones.

THE FUCKING TADTONES.

Edge gave this a 10

Mind you they also gave LittleBigPlanet a 10, a platformer in which the jumping doesn't work properly.

Indeed they did! This is more deserving of the 10 IMHO. Although LBP is very ambitious and certainly has its fans. Never clicked with me anyway... just felt like a mediocre 2D platform game with slightly different art style. SS really is a good game when you look at the complete package as a whole.

Still not sure about the flying bits but after my 3rd or 4th attempt at that boss something clicked and everything just seemed to work.... :D Actually glad I persevered with this and really this is actually highlighting how dire some games I've been playing on the new consoles have actually been so far this gen.

After owning the PS4 for a year now made the decision to sell it as I'm sick of the thing sat idle. Having looked at the line up this year most things will be making an appearance on XBO or PC.

I managed to complete the game that day I beat the flying boss. I just powered through to the end. Despite my dislike for the motion controls, I think Skyward Sword for the most part was certainly enjoyable but it could have been shorter.

The PS4 is my Bloodborne/Uncharted machine. The XBox is my Halo 5 machine. All my serious gaming gets done via PC or Wii U :)

Yeah saving myself for the last stint. Beating that boss was emotional. :D

Yeah Bloodborne doesn't really interest me. Order 1886 looks to be turning into something very average. Unchartered though.... mmmmmm. Liked the other ones but not sure if its worth keeping the machine for :D Tomb Raider is coming to the XBO and enjoyed the last Tomb Raider more than the last Unchartered and I played that on PC too (much cheaper than the console versions).

Just spending past couple of days on Wii U has made me realise what type of gaming I actually enjoy. XBO will do for the multiplats and Forza/Halo playing box.

The only other game I really enjoy on PS is Gran Turismo and even then finding (for me) Forza is the better game these days more so with the triggers on the XBO controller. Not only that but again the PC has this covered with much better drivers (Assetto Corsa etc) and it bloody works with my Logitech wheel.

Day of the tentacle remake looks great though.... but that's also coming to PC/Vita.

Think the Wii U/ XBO have me covered this gen... which is kind of weird given MS's disastrous launch. :D Guess I was a bit of a 360 fan last gen though....

Reading back over that selling the PS4 is re-enforcing that my decision to sell it on is a good one. Shame really as I was really looking forward to the Order and DriveClub back at that E3 announcement. Just wish MS hadn't have bolloxed everything up so much with the one launch. Damm them... Back on track for me though. Even people on my friends list on Xbox are popping back up again after they originally bought a PS4. :)

Oh good, another silent realm.

Oh oh..... don't like the sound of that..... :D
