Oof... I've finished the Realm Reborn storyline now - really enjoyed it - and I'm in the middle of the pre-Heavensward quests...

They're a bit of a slog, eh? Feels like one long linear path of clicking through dialogue with an enforced instance every 20 quests. Lots of teleporting, too much dialog.

Tell me it gets better?

You are in the climb before the rollercoaster starts!

I wish they would cut it down more (it has been trimmed already!)

It comes about because they needed to drip out some easy to make 'content' for people whilst they decided if the 2.0 reboot had actually worked (FFXIV 1.0 was a very different game and it was built essentially from the ground up for 2.0) and whilst they made the first expansion (Award winning Heavensward) which you will get into soon!

It now feels like a bit of a fetch quest nightmare... but things happen that resonate through the rest of the game, and it does build knowledge of the characters and places in Eorzia.

Still slogging through the pre-Heavensward stuff :)

It's been a real drag at times, though has got better as I'm approaching the end. One particular bit actually gave me feels!

I'm not keen on how it enforces running instances with real people though. I quite enjoy the NPC ones, but the 8 man and 24 man raids are pretty nerve wracking. Especially as a healer. I try to read about the fights beforehand, but everyone has been doing them so long that I just end up getting left behind or feeling as if I'm not really contributing (or, worse, hindering the party).

Does the MSQ continue to require raid participation after the expansion?

It is particularly heavy with trials in the bit you are in, the current trials you can run with NPC's.

They are making it so all msq things can be run with npcs (except 24 man I guess) but not sure when that will all come in.

Don't worry about performing on any of that content tho... everyone is just running through it on auto pilot and no one needs to play well to finish the content. If you don't know what to do then ask in alliance or party chat and someone will give you the bare bones.

There are only a few things where you will die if you get it wrong, but usually hiding when everyone hides, or standing on lit platforms/getting out of the goo is good enough!

I think the Tower is the only  required 24 man things anyway. (but you should do them cos they are good fun content!)

Finally finished the pre-expansion content. Got to say, the story stuff immediately before the end was as rad as any story content I've played in a videogame. Lots of really touching scenes and interesting twists. Currently standing in Ishgard and energised to see more again.

Cross-posting from the Steam Deck thread, hoping folks in here might be able to help me with installing & registering Endwalker on there.

I’ve bought it (again) but can’t figure out how to install it. There was a meaty update when I logged into the FFXIV launcher which I assumed was Endwalker being installed, but I seem to be locked out of its content.

EDIT: Sorted, had to do it via the Mog Station site on a separate device.
