The game looks plain terrible in all the videos I've seen over the past few days. I'm not surprised they're all getting taken down, but it's too late for me to unsee them and reach for the magic pre-order button on my keyboard.

Im in two minds over this really. One one hand, ET was one of my favorite mp games of all time, an this looks like the spiritual successor to ET. On the other hand, i really dont enjoy online multiplayer anymore these days, and i dont see this having legs on console. I think itll just be another game that dies after a month or so when everyone goes back to cod and reach. And with no real sp campaign to speak of i think itll only be worth buying on pc which will have servers for years. I dunno, ill think about it.

It just looks a bit been-there done-that. I'm torn too. It's only £20 on PC if you shop around so I might take the plunge and hope for the best.

On the one hand I really like the developer, the intention, the aesthetic and the custom stuff, but the gameplay itself doesn't look very exciting. Every video looks like slow tanklike guys standing at opposite ends of a corridor, half-assedly strafing from side to side and firing three clips worth of ammo into each other without much thought. I hate one-shot-one-kill twitch stuff, but this looks like it's gone too far the other way without really reflecting the choice in the tactical options open to you. I guess I won't know until I get it and play it with some friends. So, buying on faith basically. I agree it'll probably fizzle out quickly on console but have some legs on PC thanks to dedicated servers etc.

TF2 meets Mirror's Edge still sounds great to me though, maybe it'll be an acquired taste that I'll really enjoy.

I think the main problem as to why the game might look like standard fare is that most of the videos posted recently have been from guys who play it like a regular shooter and don't really bother with the parkour stuff. I also think the "having to empty three clips into a guy" claim is rather exaggerated. Even heavies can be taken out with 20 bullets or so in a 30 round clip. Plus we've mostly seen bots battle it out in the vids so far so that's probably not been for the best either.

STILL EXCITED!

Sorry, I should have said firing three clips at each other. It looks like it takes about a clip worth of ammo to down someone, but accuracy comes into effect.

I imagine it's probably still a bit misunderstood, and we won't really know the full story until we get it in our hands.

My main problem is that it has this lovely Mirror's Edge esque engine where you can go and do crazy stunts, it's awesome but the level design is much more traditional and the pace seems a bit slow to make use of it.

So realistically I don't think it's going to get used much in multi-player in comparison to the usual tactics - which is a massive shame really.

But on the bright side, I love the idea of all these different objectives and the class structure in how you will *definitely* need a certain class to progress. My hopes are that it'll be the next step up from TF2 but we'll see, I've been wrong before (Monday night combat ).

Ok got my copy today - so this is just a quick review based on the single player / bots games

Ever play a game and think hold on ive played this game before - well thats very true of brink! if you have played ET and Quake Wars then apart from some new updated Graphics (though not as modern as you would expect which i ll get to in a min) this is what Brink is!

Missons, class structures pretty much Mirror ET and Quake Wars. 3 or 4 objects to be done in order each one unlocking the next - commands points to take over, mg nests to build. Even the good old steal an enemy uniform while playing as Brinks verions of special ops is here. So for us ET veterans its going to feel like putting on a nice pair of comfy slippers.

Graphically its on par with an average looking 360 game - its not as polished as say halo reach crysis 2 etc.. but its servicable - also there are a few textures update issues - zoom in and it takes a second on some areas before it replaces the fuzzy far away model with up close detailted models - again nothing that a patch cant rectify but its not going to win any prizes for the best looking game this year either.

The much mooted free running function - is starting to gel a bit more after a couple of games in- its actually very similar to what you can do in bulletstorm - the whole sliding across the floor thing. which playing againts bots is quite handy as if you run then hit the slide and keep shooting as you slide into cover.

Mission wise its team based all the way - for example if you hacking a terminal / safe then the more hacking the faster it hacks ala quake war (even the hacking tool looks similar) in the same way as your hacking you need support from your team to cover you. And yes the good plant and defuse explosives is back for all you ET / QW Eng hounds!!

I think your going to see a lot of COD heads the first couple of weeks just jumping on and spending the time death matching then when they fuck off proper teams will be left.

at the mo its 7.5 / 10 for me but that only offline against bots will prob go up when i get a chance to jump online later

I'm still in two minds about it, the more I see of it the more I think it could be amazing if it was a bit more polished. I've got store credit to spend at Game so I'll think I'm still going to give it a chance hopefully it'll be a very pleasant surprise.

You gotta feel for Splash Damage. How many sales lost on PS3 due to no network play.

I'm going to wait to see how this is received. The customisation looks awesome although not sure about how many shots it takes to bring someone down.

Something just occurred to me. There's no killcam or anything similar (Bad Company 2). I like this. Not that there's anything wrong with killcams but sometimes I just wish I could stay in my exact same position after I killed someone instead of having to relocate.

Someone's playing it on Justin TV: http://www.justin.tv/kaiico#/w/1184147904

That is some piss poor AI.

At least with the PC version Splash Damage released public dedicated server files too so I can see this having a community for a very long time.

Brink TV

If you, like me, plan on playing the hell out of Bethesda and Splash Damage’s Brink this week, then you might be interested in learning about Brink TV, an online resource for live broadcasting of the soon-to-be-released shooter.

Founded by the team behind Quake Live TV and Games Cast TV, Brink TV, which will go online tomorrow, is working to gather an experienced roster of top-tier broadcasters, competitive gaming advocates, and community leaders with the promise to appeal to both casual and hardcore FPS gamers. How? Well, according to the press release, not only will it showcase top teams, games, and leagues within the Brink competitive community, but also feature insightful and entertaining commentary, analysis, and play-by-play that will be relevant to both the seasoned veteran and the casual gamer.

The Day One Launch Event will kick off at 8pm EDT with a podcast introduction of the Brink TV staff to the Brink community. This will be followed by a roundtable discussion between the Brink TV staff and special guests from the competitive scenes of previous Splash Damage titles. Topics will be centered on competitive features in Brink-discussing what we know is in, what we think will survive a “Pro Mod” cut, and a wishlist of competitive needs that will be forwarded to Splash Damage after the event. To cap off the event, Brink TV will be giving away multiple PC copies of the game while servers are being populated for the night’s finale: Brink TV will host and shoutcast a series of team-based King of the Hill matches open to anyone in the community.

On May 11 at 9pm EDT, Brink TV is bringing together noteworthy members of the Brink community for a panel discussion composed of league administrators, fellow broadcasters and representatives from the top two North American ETQW teams. Panelists will share their first impressions of Brink and provide insight into the competitive nature of the game. All are welcome to ask our panelists questions through our chat room and responses will be given live, on-air.

So, there ya have it – you can find out more about the project right here if you’re interested. Oh, and BTW, are you planning on picking up the game tomorrow or what?

Jim Sterling said on Twitter, while waiting for the embargo to lift, that there'll probably be some fairly extreme opinions on the game - however you want to interpret that.

The game has a certain allure for some reason, but I can't honestly say that I've seen anything I like the look of yet. Not that I'm downing the game, it just doesn't seem like something I'd personally be interested in from the pacing of the gameplay.
