mr_woo
I can't lie, I was disappointed to see no mention of a standard lobby/party but that's also a bit unfair since you obviously can't make that in a week and obviously their first priority is the lag (though again you could argue it should have been their in the first place but facts are facts). Making it hard to play a proper match with friends is slowly killing the game, everyone I know is trading their copy in with the thought of buying it again later. Goodness only knows if that will happen. It's obvious Splash Damage will support the game though (as they always have done), I'm just a bit worried about the community on the console versions. If it comes down to it I will buy the PC version if I have to.

mr_woo
I play Brink with friends all the time (360) and have no difficulty joining them or visa versa. Oh aye I know as I usually join into the games with you, Heymykie, Dave White etc. But other friends of mine want a system where we create a lobby, everyone joins and and we then search for a game were we join a full 16 player game with no problems. They don't want to join a game and be playing with bots on either side and want the full 16 players. It's what they initially paid for and I don't think it's unreasonable that's what they expected and were disappointed when they didn't get it. They are used to Halo so anything else is unncessary faffing about to them. I'll still be playing it and its obvious you will too, I just want more of my friends to play it as well. Not being a debbie downer on purpose or meaning to be and I'm sure they've got stuff in the pipeline anyway. I guess I just like the game so much I want more people to play it damnit! Karzee
Yeah it would be much easier to have lobbies but I just wanted to get across that there are no problems joining friends once the host has set-up/joined a room. I doubt Splash Damage will add lobbies if they're not there in the first place. Still I'm not too fussed about it, I just want new maps to be added every week forever. Epcotman
Ok I've taken the plunge due to the fact I love the art style! Should arrive next week. I'll be playing on 360 if anyone wants to join me!
Karzee
Good stuff Epcotman, let us know when you've got it and we'll get you up to speed on the maps/tactics. Booting up Brink in a moment if anyone wants a game or twenty.
sinky72
i'm still popping on this thread hoping upon hope that the major issues have been ironed out. Question please for those who still have it, would you honestly recommend it yet? thanks
macosx
I'd wait and see what progress has been made in this update next week. There's a lot of fun to be had but the game isn't playing as it should yet.
Podge
Yeah, I plan on getting this once the patch has been released and put through it's paces. The feedback from you guys makes it sound much, much better than the reviews would've led you to believe.
Karzee
i'm still popping on this thread hoping upon hope that the major issues have been ironed out. Question please for those who still have it, would you honestly recommend it yet? thanks Seeing as my copy seemed to be the only one left in town I had to pay an exorbitant £44.99 for it a week ago but I reasoned I could play Brink for a week then swap it for LA Noire or Dirt 3 if I didn't get on with it. After playing for the first weekend I was enjoying it well enough but found half the games laggy so I decided that I would still go ahead with the trade-in if the issues hadn't been fixed by Friday (yesterday). Over the course of the week I pumped a lot of hours into Brink, both with fellow Rllmukers and with randoms, found less laggy games as the week progressed (about 8 out 10 games have been smooth as silk to play) and I've been having a superb time with the game. It's now the weekend, LA Noire is out, Dirts 3 is out on Tuesday, and I've decided to keep Brink, THAT'S how good I think it is. But I am being forgiving because it is a rough diamond. Do I honestly recommend it? Much though I want everyone to jump online and see how great this is to play, paying full retail price is just too much for the little content available (only 8 maps), although Splash Damage have said that the first DLC (containing more maps) coming out in June will be free so that should take away the sting. If people really like a bit of team multiplayer in a game that's different enough to stand out from the crowd then it's a definite buy.....but just hold off for a bit because in a few weeks the lag issues that they've said the patch fixes will be released, as will the free DLC, and no doubt you'll see it online for around £25. For that price I DO recommend this game. Just don't forget about it.

macosx
I did the same as you Karzee and kept hold of mine. There is a real hook to it, but the framerate and ropey gfx do jar somewhat.

dvdx2
loving this (ps3), despite the continual migrating sessions', occassional lag and bots that stand around and do nothing (was this playtested?) i once had a bot getting stuck in the scenery with a vital objective and had to reset the game oh and I have had 3 lock ups, whilst playing on line??? anyone else? Dave White
been playing more on pc than 360 until it gets fixed, as long as the host has a good connection its all good. Looking forward to the patch, it really does have something this game.
dvdx2
Why are you playing with bots? Just out of interest. Is there lag on the ps3 version as well? bots are subsituted if there isnt enough online players, to make games 8 on

Karzee
Does it take ages for players to fill the empty slots on the consoles? With people always looking for highly populated servers on the pc, if someone does leave, someone else takes their place almost instantaneously. I joined one server that was set up to be 8 vs bots and yes, the bots are shite. They dawdled around, didn't manage the first objective and we ended up just all sat on a ledge picking them off as they came out of their spawn point. Having said that, I've played against some teams that were just as bad It doesn't work like that on console. There's no waiting for players to fill slots, the game starts with bots in player's places then get removed when a player starts. If the host leaves the game pauses while a message appeasers saying Host Migrating, then the game restarts with those objectives done still completed but all the players back at their spawn point. It works well enough.
mr_woo
So there's not even a cod style lobby on the consoles? You just start out hosting the game with bots and hope people join? Yep, basically you join a public game and hope there's enough slots to invite all your friends which is why there's been a lot of complaints for some sort of lobby system. There's no 'server' browser or anything like that to even display games, you just hope for the best.
sinky72
What amazes me is that rather than delaying the release to get things better, they actually brought the release down forward by a week
Epcotman
Without a beta some of these problems would only surface once the game is out in the wild. So I imagine they would want to get it out and work from there.
Retroid
Fucking bought it. From a small UK store, hopefully he hurries up sending me the code and hopefully it works on Steam. What the hell is going on? All online retailers don't bother to tell you that they can't sell it to you but refuse your payment last minute. This had better be good and well supported... mr_woo
I'm thinking of picking up the PC version of this, it would be nice to have in addition to the 360 version but I'd like to play more 8v8 matches with no lag whatsoever so I may pick it up soon. Even if it's not up on steam to buy I assume I'll have no problems redeeming retail steam codes and downloading ?

mr_woo
That's the older one, here's the new patch changelog according to splashdamages website. I picked this up today on PC as well since I got it for a good price (and due to left over credit I was using for my Dirt 3preorder). Getting used to the mouse and keyboard. I am actually better at this with a 360 controller I realise that playing online with a 360 controller would probably be useless on PC, just used to it (and hey the option would be nice!). Just building up my character and unlocking stuff at the minute. Any recommended servers at all anyone here uses ? I will continue to play this on 360 as well, I just really like this game. The latest game update for the PC version of Brink is now available on Steam, containing several fixes and improvements. Among other things, this update addresses the sound dropping out on certain maps when playing networked games and adds the ability to filter servers by player numbers. As before, all you have to do to get the update is sign into your Steam client (and make sure it's not in offline mode). If you're running a Brink server, there's also an improved version of the Standalone Dedicated Server to go with the update. You can grab the new server via your Steam client's Tools tab. Full changelog follows below: General: Fixed sound dropping out when playing networked games Improved graphical performance, especially when using Ambient Occlusion Fixed voice packs being reset to default when you delete another character Removed ability to use certain cheat protected commands in challenges Fixed memory leak/crash when alt-tabbed out User Interface: Full servers are no longer filtered out of the browser Added support for entering a range of numbers (i.e. 10-12) in server filters Reduced font size in the server browser Exiting Head customization returns to the correct menu Fixed being unable to bind KP_Enter in the UI Increased font size of in-game text chat 'Enter' now closes text chat prompt if empty Fixed challenge in menu flashing even after completion Dedicated Servers: Improved dedicated server CPU performance Fixed NPC not spawning for escort objectives online on servers using unsupported cvars
mr_woo
Oops, my mistake I'll edit my post Stick at practising with the mouse and keyboard, mr woo, once you get comfortable with it you'll never look back The servers I use are the most populated standard setting with the lowest ping I ain't picky. With a game like cod 4 where there was like 30 odd people in one FFA server, I used to have a few favourites where I knew all the regulars and stuff but with 8v8, I doubt I'll find any of those. Add me, my steam profile is in my sig I've never minded using mouse and keyboard but even now I still use the 360 controller on PC FPS, including Fallout New Vegas earlier and Singularity Just one of those things I like using. Saying that I'll just need to fiddle with my bindings, having C for crouch/slide is too uncomfortable and not efficient enough. I'll mess around with it later. I've added you on steam as well.
