Curse you all. Given the bad reviews and numerous issues, I wasn't going to buy this (despite initial pre-release enthusiasm), but now you've gone and made it sound kinda fun and I want to buy it. If I buy it, I can't afford LA Noire though. YOU GUYS.

If this game is buggered, it'll probably go cheap pretty sharpish, so I guess I should hang on a bit and get LA Noire, which I know is going to be 100% awesome.

I think I'll be picking it up in a few months time, after exam season. Thing is, if it's going to be my new TF2 then it has to have such a longevity it doesn't matter when I buy it.

playing this and giving it a chance for a few days makes all the difference. once it becomes second nature and you have learned and endured the confusing and steep learning curve it starts to really reward, with the abilities and attachments.

The saving grace of this is the enemy AI, they are clever and offer a difficult challenging fight, so playing with friends in a private match, you and your friends vs bots feels just as competitive and intense as a real live game. In this mode there is no lag or bugs and rather than grumble and hope for the best to get into a stable match doing this is a safe way of a decent game. you rank up just the same and it feels live. Great and just as much fun, until they patch it proper. You can tell if a match has lag straight away so just bounce and try again if mp is what you want to do.

An advantage the console version has is the ability to start a game but hang in a holding screen before you all ready up, that way all your party gets in before the game is then started. Clumsy yes, but beneficial.

Problem is most won't give this the chance or time it deserves, but its a really fun game, you just have to stick with it. It has that hook for me and as Karzee says you fight tooth and fucking nail to push or defend in this and only teamwork will succeed and it's very rewarding. just had a great little sesh with funtime and mr woo and its clear that most people who have this are loving it.

I have never known so much hate that spread like wildfire for a title, causing a shockwave of negative press and fears among gamers who had an interest in it me included.

its not perfect, it isnt anywhere near as pretty as its peers, its rough in places and a tad busted on the 360 at the moment, but its fun and does what it set out to do

Just got in some games with some mukkers and was just unplayable. Never seen lag so bad, even though all players have green bars. Real shame. They NEED to sort this out this week.

Damn man i didn't know it wasnt working for you on your end. Such a shame but can you see the brilliance?

enemy ai is tough and offers a decent challenge from what i have played, Team mate AI can be very poor indeed.

Like I say playing with friends on a co op game online is where its at until they get that lag resolved on consoles. I had 2 games on 360 before that i just quit from as it was horrific, then i found a great one and stayed in there.

There's nothing wrong with the enemy AI unless you consider 'bastard hard/clever' to be wrong.

Yeah its hard, and I think that that is what people's main problem with it is. Yeah sometimes the friendly AI isn't the best, but sometimes humans aren't the best. I was enjoying it today. The more it comes together. The AI uses heavy duty strategies against u. Its a great challenges and hardly feels cheap.

I don't think I've seen lag as bad in any other game especially one where the it's the main focus. Also it's quite off putting when the textures are popping in even in the preload to a game. Will pick it up again later if they can sort out all the issues. Shame, real promise in this especially the team aspects.

Definitely. They're smarter than you most of the time. Reminds me of Left for Dead 2. They are out to kill you, not lightly tap you.

As shown by when we were downed they would fucking well kerb stomp you as soon as look at you. Absolutely ruthless

I am really started to love this game the more that I play it. It really starts to shine the more you 'get' into it. You start parkouring all over the place, getting around the levels quicker, working with your teammates etc. Even when you get into a match full of randoms it's still really fun as you HAVE to work together, the game absolutely promotes it. I honestly don't think it's a game that really starts to show its strengths until you play it more and more. Anyway, loving it so far still.

AI Curb Stomp = Epic

I'm starting to think even if the AI was shit people would have complained about it regardless. It just takes a few bad reviews to change the climate.

Anyone else think the maps are slightly unbalanced? Terminal and Reactor in particular are very very easy to defend if the teams are even slightly even. Played a few stopwatch games on them and neither team got the safe open on Terminal and neither team even came close to blowing up the vents on reactor. I dunno, I think the time it takes to open the safe as an engineer (even two or three engys) or hack the vents as an operative takes soo long the defense are able to get back and defend it pretty easily. Really think they need to make arming the hacks/engy cracking a lot faster, like 10 secs at max (and allow just 1 to do it). Instead it feels like it takes 30+ secs to hack these objectives. Only the soldiers he-charge is "fast".

I agree with the hacking, it definitely takes the longest but Im fine with the others.

On the other hand 2 of us just played on Reactor twice as the offense and beat it both times. We even got an achievement for it the second time because we did it under 30% of the time! Maybe the team isn't exploring the maps enough. Also I've only recently just clicked with the grenades having gotten the attachment for a grenade launcher under your main weapon. It so much more useful as I wasn't getting the arch of the grenade throws. That is key for crowd control. There are definitely some nasty choke points but I think all of them are doable. We've HAD SO MANY under 1 minute objective wins. It really is tense and fun.

what that shotty vid shows is someone who is really using the parkour elements 2nd nature, sliding into cover and popping over the top.

I was running last night and did a wall jump and made it onto a ledge i never thought would work. it's not mirrors edge fluent but it's well done and playing the light body class (unlocked at level eight) feels really fast and fluid.

As clippa says this has stolen your time before you realize it.

As Dave says it's about using parkour and using that to close the distance and get away quickly too. Not so much in close range objectives but if you have to get over a long, open distance it's about sliding and vaulting over things to close in to get yourself the kills. Then again you could say that's what you do even without the shotgun, helps out regardless.

Got this on the PC. It's excellent. Sure, there are some issues at the moment but when it all comes together it's fucking brilliant.

Hit me up on Steam if you want a game. (I'm in Canada though, which might prohibit most folk!)

If the ai on the other team is brutal but the ai on your team is rubbish then what is the ai like when there are two teams of mixed human players but not enough to make up the full quota for both teams?

Anyway for the brief go I had last night I very much enjoyed it - I think the game will change once people hit high levels with some of the abilities you can get - I almost don't want to come across teams that will be that good with full on pre defined strategies for maps as it then just takes the fun out the whole thing. Random running about throwing a few syrines at people whilst occassional jumping on a box and finding a new bit of the map will do for me.

Didn't notice much lag last night, was best when playing with friends and the game has a medic class so I can continue to cower behind other people whilst feeling like a hero reviving them. Saying thaty every class did have a role to play and whilst I feel people will be picking enginner cause they have turrets it seemed to be more about the buffs. Quite keen to explore the Operative class.

I will be on tonight for sure so hopefully see some of you online.

16 hours played and level 20 and whilst the actual gameplay is great, the maps are soo fucking unbalanced it's unreal. I think the ONLY balanced map in the whole game is Aquarium (the one you blow a door then escort the guy, think it's that map). Playing with two even skilled teams is basically pointless for the attacking side on every other map. Yeah it's easy to stomp random pubs but as a competitive game this is dead unless they release an editor so the community can "fix" things like spawn times/hack times etc. I think a good comparison is that every map feels like you are running Dustbowl stage 3 as the blu side over and over, except not quite as frustrating ^_^

Fucking love the game though, the best FPS MP I've played in years.

I don't know, I've been playing probably for as long and I can't say it's ever felt unbalanced to me. Multiple routes to everything and I've had many close battles on each side on every map. Of course from an actual competitive point of view I don't know how good it would be but most things feel ok to me and maybe I'm just a bit blind to it. I just have fun shooting mother fuckers with my lovely shotgun  Would certainly be interested to read others POV on it (including actual competitive players) The only thing I could maybe see being frustrating is the hacking and dehacking, the dehacking seems a bit too fast for my liking. The map layouts themselves seem pretty solid though. It is very early days though and Splash Damage I'm sure would change things if needbe.

My only annoyance at this point is that the XP/score rewards seem off. Medics who don't seem to have a sprint key and only revive people that they happen to randomly come accross in their field of view tend to be top of the team scores, whereas I can have a really good game doing everything I'm supposed to be doing as a soldier (truckloads of kills, keeping everyone's supplies up, doing objectives when I can) and still end up near the bottom. It's not about competing with your team mates, but still. Or maybe that's intentional to make sure there are enough medics? Well it's not working because only 1 in 20 medics seems to be aware of the fact.
