I'm enjoying this more then i thought TBH - although framerates do rear their ugly head at times (owing to the fact VSync is on - else it would tear).

I do love the levels though and as said there's much to unlock.

But one thing.

Why does the screen change colour or rather darken slightly just after you start on some levels - like the first Billy Hatcher Ice world?

It kind dims as if it changes into blur mode or something.

Haven't noticed that, but in full-pixel mode on my TV at the start of racing and when viewing racer bios there a little strip at the left hand side of the screen that doesn't seem to be covered by the overlay effect.

I'm not sure if this is what the update was for, but Beginner is the default difficulty now rather than Advanced. So you don't have to feel so bad about playing it on Beginner, I guess.

It was set to beginner for me from the off. I thought it was quite hard in beginner though - much like the demo was. I've since changed it, but found it odd it was set so.

I'm not online at home owing to a virgin failure so had to play without the update this morning.

I don't think the demo had this much screen tear, is this how they've tried to combat the framerate problems?

Theres no tear on the 360 IIRC, but framerate suffers as a result - it always does on the 360 unless your playing Forza 3.

I'm sure they've enabled Vsync on the 360.

Its bad in places like the Ice Cave of Billy Hatchers first level. That said, the levels are quite busy. You kinda want to drive around them slowly just to see what they've done.

Always a good sign.

Mine arrived! Yay for ShopTo!

Just having a quick grand prix before I need to go home. The casino park level was pretty brutal, even on easy! I kept flipping over or something at one point and some of the corners were very tough... managed to win on beginner though ;)

Love it!

The Samba level in the Chao cup was like Rainbow Road squared! Awesome ;)

Theres a fair bit in there, i'll say that. I don't get the fact you can buy tracks that you can play in the GP mode though.

I presume they're time trial only (the mission ones unlock themselves) - in which case, i do get it....or are they not in all the GPs?

Also how do i add the music i've bought to a playlist in the game?

So much for the full game being 60fps then ;)

But you bastards make it sound so much fun so I'll probably meet myself half way and trade for it.

I don't think we've ever said it would be 60. It was top of our list, but SEGA wanted it prettier and felt this didn't matter. When you're asked to add real-time reflections to any water, normal maps on everything, it does make it look nice, but you're looking at 30. Remember we'd make the game for us (and therefore you) but SEGA are aiming it at a younger audience, who quite literally don't care.

Make sure you grab the Title Update on 360 though, we did a heap of optimisation which makes it a hell of a lot smoother.

Our copies have shown up at work too, so I'll probably be online at some point this weekend. Losing probably ;)

ah a title update ill have to get that. spent a while playing 3 player splitscreen and its very good. weapons seem balanced enough to make races fair.

also, i didnt notice the framerate issues half as much when i got further along to the later cups. maybe i just got used to it, but it didnt seem to slow down much at all. many the later tracks are better optimised.

its a great attempt at a mario kart clone and in my eyes has very much succeeded.

good work sol! any news on dlc for this? :(

Yeah, some tracks based on other Sega titles would be lovely :(

Funnily enough, the part of the game that seems to chug the most is the track menu in the shop ;) Also, it's not a massive issue or anything, but the menu system is totally inadequate for browsing through the missions - it needs to have 'skip backwards/forwards' on the shoulder buttons.

But yeah, it's a very fun racer! I've had a blast working my way through it today. I've finished the GP on Beginner, so I'm going to make a start on the harder difficulties soon, and I'm going to aim for AAA on all of the missions (there are 64, by the way). In between all this I'll be working my way through the Time Trial stages, and I might get the odd multiplayer game going in there too.
