Tate (tayte) Mode is fine. So is animated Gif (hard G). "Zee Ex" Spectrum is fine too. Fight the pedantry within.

Pretty much. Who gives a fuck? (I actually know the answer) I know it's not "Tayte", but that's what I say in my head when I see it in menus. I've never uttered the word aloud to another person.

I say tayte in my head as well (I suppose it's actually 'tate). I reckon if tate (tartay) wasn't so close to rotate nobody would say it, like nobody outside of Japan calls horizontal monitors yoko. Whenever I'm around arcade guys the monitors are either in tayte or hori(zontal).

I’m in the process of sorting out my ickle retro setup (and buying more…) so have come looking for inspiration, me thinks lots of people in this sub forum could do with updating their setups in here for me to look at and steal ideas 😉

There is a lot of competition for the top three slots between those 4 consoles.

Under the living room TV. GameCube with GCLoader and GB Player connected to a RetroTink 5x. Hidden from my tornado of a child.

Hidden box of controllers. The Super Famicom is modded to work with the GameCube.

My setup is still ghetto until I get a fixed space for it to stay out. The telly goes back in the cupboard at the end of the day. The console goes back in its plastic storage box and if it doesn’t get used again for a while it goes back out to the shed with all the others.

So after seeing some of your setups (and reading whole thread, shame lots of pictures arent hosted any more) I’ve made a start on mine - I’m waiting on lots of deliveries of glass doors and Perspex inserts (and @MikeBeaver so I can run the MD / Saturn in one beautiful cube)

They are all wired up and via the magic of modern retro pads (and needing to rescue my wavebird form the kids) I can play them whilst they are displayed - this has been something ive wanted to do for at least 20 years and now have a little room to do it, wish I hadn’t sold so many machines over those years!

I do need to get a solution to being able to sit and play - sat on my wheel rig and im a little close really, maybe a beanbag on the floor but then im off set - first world problems…

Nice setup but these really are disgusting looking consoles, first time I have ever really looked at them - design wise at least we definitely got the nicer looking versions here. The hell were they thinking?!

Objectively, the are pretty ugly, @Haribokart, but the US SNES is one I got in the early 90s having read all about 60Hz gaming in Super Play so it's been with me a LONG time. So I love it, even though it's piss coloured. I even have some pristine Super Famicoms, but the US SNES is my fave.

The Famicom I got in Japan on honeymoon and yeah, pretty ugly, but there's a strange charm to it. The controller cables are so short that you need the thing right beside you to play it, and that reminds me of being a kid as well even if I have zero nostalgia for the device itself.

This is my spare room retro setup. Still a WIP (waiting on a large bookcase to move all that stuff piled up in the middle properly on display, along with my games which are on a mini bookcase right now) might put a small LCD once they have moved for the mini consoles. Or more likely a house plant for a bit more colour :D

From L-R A Master System 2, Mega Drive 2/CD Combo, Saturn, Dreamcast, OG Xbox, Game Gear, Panasonic Mini Hifi / Amp, Xbox 360, PS2 and Wii on here. The black boxes contain the controllers and various PSUs / Connections. Everything runs off Scart so there is one of the old school Argos switch boxed behind the tv. The Dreamcast steering wheel doubles as a plug and cable hider :)

On the left I have an Astro City Mini and a Boxed Nomad. In all those black boxes are all my music CDs (these are a great storage idea if you had loads like me - I got 3 ikea towers worth, around 300, in 2 of them) , gaming magazines and years of assorted tat.

Shhhhh, you!! I fucking love that console, more than the SFC/PAL SNES, perhaps it's somethign wrong with my head, but I have one of these on display rather than a UK variant.

I will also defend the US Snes to the end - like many i suspect it was my first import console and the 60hz train, I love the Parma Violet buttons and the cart shape was a perfect match

I think the SFC objectively looks better but if I was buying one to play it would be a US model!

I don't segregate my old and modern gaming stuff (which does mean my older consoles output to a modern TV rather than a CRT), which makes it nice and straight forward to play a game irrespective of its age.

Ignoring the modern consoles, there's a New 3DS, 2 Vitas (one CFW), a Mega SG, a PS2 slim, Dreamcast, Wii U, Xbox, N64, Gamecube, Saturn, PS3 and a Mega Drive 1 (with Master Converter) set up. A few redundancies there (don't need the MD or Gamecube with the Mega SG and Wii U; don't really need the PS2 or DC with the Steam Deck), so I've got spaces to fill should I ever pick up e.g. a 360 or PC Engine.

I follow the same logic with my peripherals (and, partially pictured, games), which are all shelved on the other side of the lounge:

US snes is legit fugly. So much so I resent my supernt a little as it’s the naff grey and purple coloured version.

Gutted... mine is just a Super NT PCB ( no idea HOW someone ended up selling just the PCB on eBay, but it was £135 I think, so bought it ) instead, mine is jammed inside an offical PAL console shell and sort of bodged to work with the official on button, it's VERY inelligant, and I'd quite LOVE that USA variant shell if you ever find a PAL one to replace it with!

I really like what you've done here. Finding a stand that will comfortably accommodate the depth of a CRT is a pain these days.
