I like the idea of giving this a go...

When I gave the sniper a brief try, I found that I didn't get much opportunity to use it. Do people play as snipers on all maps? Obviously there's Wasteland and Afghan, but is it worth taking into any other maps, bearing in mind I only play FFA so there's no Derail - and I have to watch my own back more than is necessary in TDM.

Skid Row for example, it seems that if you're a sniper the only spot you can realistically use is the office with the truck in front of it I guess. I suppose Estate has a couple of spots on roofs...and I can't think of any others off the top of my head. What about Scrapyard say, or Highrise, do people snipe on those?

Basically, tell me some sweet sniper spots please!

I couldn't get on with sniping until last night, after reading Soi's analysis of the rifles on here. I hate the Barrett and it's epic recoil (hated it on COD4 as well), but I've been getting on much better with a stealthy M21 set-up (silenced, Cold Blooded). Once you understand that every target will take two shots to kill, it's quite usable as a mid-range weapon, especially as you can shoot people twice in the feet and still get the kill (handy for my cackhandedness).

I was like you before, finding a spot, camping, and hardly seeing anyone all match. But the M21 is a little more versatile for moving around as you can get a volley of shots off quickly.

I've been using Bling, silencer and thermal scope, but lack of ammo can be a problem with that set-up. I'll probably switch between that and Scavenger with normal scope, depending on the map.

In Highrise there’s the classic spots out on the top of the crane or in the upper floor of one of the office buildings that you shimmy along the ledge to get too. The crane spot is pretty limited. I find once you’ve zapped 1 or 2 guys the rest of the players will get a fix on your location and bag you.

On Scrapyard I’ve had some good times sniping from the top floor of the building that has the van out to the left. If you can get a guy to cover the door or put down some claymores you can bag some kills.

I lie down on the back of the truck, with a claymore behind me - no-one ever looks there and you get a good field of view.

Along the platform that runs the width of Warehouse 14, there are panel windows that look west out towards the Van/Garage/Tank Garage. You need to jump on to the railings of the platform to look out the windows but it gives you an excellent view of one of the places where a lot of action occurs (in FFA). You need to keep your wits about you as your potentially left exposed from 4 different entrances to the building.

I thought so, that's exactly where I meant. You're guaranteed to get killed in FFA if you hang out there, it's too obvious a spot. Maybe it's different in TDM?

How do you do that quickscope thing? Does he have something stuck to his screen or what?

Yes, many of them do exactly that, apparently.

Surely a bullet fired from the hip won't go dead-centre on the screen, rather some random place within the crosshairs?

I'm not entirely sure how it works, but they're not firing from the hip, they're quick-scoping. That initial action of going into the down-sight position might be what produces the effect but either way, it certainly does produce a dead-centre hit. A lot of them put a tiny piece of blu-tac or similar on the screen.

There's a great sniping spot at the back of the car park area on skidrow where you can climb on some containers that look down to the back alley/fire escape section. Good view of a busy area and you're well hidden. I've never seen anyone apart from myself using it, which makes me think I might have discovered it haha.

Going off earlier posts other people seem to be getting these sorts of scores all the time, but I just had my best TDM game with 22 kills to 1 death. Pretty annoyed about that last part as I quite clearly shot the guy with a burst of Stopping Powered FAMAS at medium range, but at least I got the satisfaction of decimating all the Prestige players scores as a lowly level 23!

No, but you can get EMP, maybe it was one o' them. If it was, it's the rarest thing to get. Unlucky!

Nah, it might have been an EMP though. The icons aren't too dissimilar.

But anyway, I want to register my new-found love for the Raffica after hearing it get mentioned a few times in this thread. It's basically a mini assault rifle, innit? I heart it. I stuck it on to help me level up Last Stand and it's become one of my favourites. ACR if I'm playing seriously, Raffica with Lightweight, Scavenger and whatever I want for the third perk if I fancy some fun.
