STUFF

In addition to the good advice you've been given, I would also say watch every kill cam. They are so helpful for figuring out the way the game works, it's a brilliant feature. I'm at L61 or something, and I tend to watch every kill cam to the end because it keeps my claymores active, and I'm still getting surprised by new locations and tactics that other people use.

I'm running Predator > Harrier > Pave Low, purely because I like to keep the pressure on in TDM games whilst having the Harrier and Pave Low racking up the kills. A good team will have downed both, but more often than not, I've got both on the go at any one time if I'm having a good round.

I'm not the best at FPS's, but I'm cautious how I move around the map and camp some spots for a small period of time, rather than run around racking up kills. There are players who are very good at doing that, I'm not one of them though. I go with a silenced load-out (FAMAS). I've been fortuanate enough to have a couple situations where, I was able to ge away with downing quite a few players in close proximity with a Silenced SPAS-12, before their team-mates realised that I'm not their team. Guessing they're too busy looking at the radar. :(

Knowledge of the map plays a massive part in it as well, I always seem to finish in the negative on Favelas for example, but do quite well on Karachi, Scrapyard, Afghan etc.

For example, on Afghan, I always find having a first point of contact a useful way of getting off the mark so to speak, so generally I'll make my way to the wing of the plane in Afghan (if we're spawning at the bottom of the hill where the sniper point is) and 9 times out of 10, they'll be at least 2-3 enemies going for the bunker or working their way around to the cave from the front.

I've played 8 days, 8 hours and 17 mins - and had empty crates and javelin/harrier kills that didn't add to my Killstreak. Just because you may not have had it happen to you, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. :(

If the airspace is too busy your heli/harrier will stack up and come in once the skies are clear. Either shoot down whats already there or wait for your turn.

It's only happened to me once, but the time it did, i just lost it completely and my harrier didnt come out at all (the harrier has an airstrike too, so theres no way to call it in until the enough space).

My good man, this game is populated by many experienced players and absolutely brutal. If you are managing to break even at times at level 20, you're doing pretty well and your attitude of simply trying to be in the positive is what teams want and need.

There is no "cheap" in your situation. Feel no guilt at noob tubing people who have many more perks, weapons and experience than you - they'll happily "tube" you. It's about getting that score in the positive by any means the game allows. :(

Map knowledge is a HUGE part of having any chance of doing well in TDM. Knowing your way around is the least of it. Take some time to start a private match with unlimited time/no join in progress, to check out the maps without the pressure of someone trying to kill you. Work out lines of sight, different routes from a to b and who can see you at any given location, etc.

Much appreciated, it does feel like an uphill battle on ice most of the time but I guess the key is that it's still fun even when you're pinned down by air cover and at least for me I almost always feel like it was my fault when I get killed. Usually I can see on the killcam that I've left myself exposed somewhere waiting to be shot in the head.

I think tonight I'm going to pick a map and try and work out where all the different routes are. I do watch killcams (mostly - sometimes the red mist gets me) but not knowing the maps that well mean that you can't always tell what was going on. I generally do quite well on Afghan, and Rust is so small that it's just a twitch game for me. I get lost on most of the others.

Apart from maps, I also have some technical problems in my game. I almost never switch to the secondary weapon, and when I do I seem to get killed easily. I've also accumulated a total of 2 knife kills, both last night. I've been trying to change my 'OhMyGodHe'sInMyFace' reaction over from grabbing a handful of trigger to stabbing, but it's taking time. I suppose since I've mostly been playing with ARs then you don't need the secondary so much. I want to get the XP for shotgun kills though, so I keep trying :(

I've just upped the sensitivity as well, aiming was too slow, so I'm getting used to that as well. A number of deaths came from shooting around people instead of at them last night.

I originally thought the game could do with some level balancing, but on reflection it seems like one of the best ways to learn is to watch good players marmalise an opposing team so I guess it works out pretty good as is. It would be nice if there were a noob version of TDM though with a limited number of maps so you could build a better understanding more quickly.

This is probably the most fun I've had on a game in years, maybe since that moment when the original Halo clicked.

I was using that OMA build last night mainly on ground war whenever Terminal, Scrapyard or Highrise came up. It is really broken but so much fun as its ridiculously easy to get kills.

I'm not that good at this game but my worst Terminal game with it 58-5. I am quite glad I have prestiged now and can't use it for a while as its very cheap but tempting to exploit all the same.

Take an AA-12 shotgun, it's a beast. You only need switch to it when entering a building or if you sense someone getting close. Fire it from the hip and you'll quickly find it's your best friend in those situations.

It's the single best piece of advice you can take. Changed my game enormously once I started doing that.

I used to run with the AA-12 too and it's a fantastic gun, highly recommended but after prestiging wanted to mix it up a little. Current fav is the Striker, found I was always running low on ammo with the AA-12 and it's full auto. The Striker is very similar with a great rate of fire but because it's only one shot per pull of the trigger I'm conserving ammo a lot better. And you can pull that trigger two or three times pretty damn quick if you see someone up close.

Also given the M1014 a quick try and while it has a nice range (similar to the SPAS) and a good rate of fire it doesn't hold enough cartridges in the magazine for me to be truly happy with it.

I find the comparison of the SPAS and the M1014 to be pretty much spot on. I find though that the M1014 encourages me to be a bit bashful on the aiming and I've often missed people in a situation where a more accurate SPAS shot would have taken them down. Due to the pump action of the SPAS i tend to be more careful of my first shot.

If that makes sense?! :(

Had work called off today because of the SNOWPOCALYPSE and I've been playing this. Is it normal for daytimer players to be noticeably more stupid or something? The number of racists I've met today is incredible. I've also encountered lots of stupid whiners too - some guy was swearing and moaning at a kid for camping when I joined one lobby; he and his clan then tried to set off a nuke by getting a guy on our side and then using the insertion trick. How I laughed when I killed their leader when he was on 23 kills. I guess they weren't too happy. Shame.

Sadly, I think I'm going back to muting everyone I don't know. The sooner they add a report button to the PS3 the better.
