What am I doing wrong with the SPAS 12? I am getting hitmarkers all the time, it's pretty much the norm in fact, even at point blank range. I'm four kills from a grip, but the gun is turning kills into deaths as people have time to turn around and shoot me after my SPAS fails again to kill them. I am not shooting from any kind of distance btw.

I found the SPAS to be a little crap too. Sneaking up on people and shooting them only to have them turn round and blow you away. AA 12 all the way for me now

AA-12 is monstrous if you can get up close enough, shame about the tiny mags though. With a grip and FMJ you're good to go in any close quarters encounters. Now that they nerfed the 1887s I wouldn't dream of using anything else for my secondary, but I guess that might change when I unlock and start using them again this prestige.

Don't think the grip makes a difference if you shoot from the hip, which you should always be doing anyway.

Are you using Steady Aim?

As for prestige mode, I'll do it every time (Think I'm prestige 2 level 32 at the moment). Having all my stuff periodically taken away from me has definitely made me a better, more rounded player. Plus I rarely play on my own so lack of anti-air is less of a concern as someone in my group will always have the stinger unlocked and equipped.

Wow, it's a different weapon with stopping power!

Quite surprised by that tbh. The gun is feeble without it, I thought shotguns wouldn't really need it. I probably have 600 kills since I prestiged, only 20 of those with stopping power according to the barracks, and 10 of those 20 were in the game I just had.

I love people who use the sensor, they become so used to chasing the red dots that they miss people like me with Ninja, sometimes running right past me even though I'm in plain sight. Some of the easiest kills I've ever had.

That's what I rely on, really. Too many Ninja users think it makes them undetectable...hence all the hoohah about people thinking they were getting detected because the bug was showing them on HS screens in kill cams. If you're running Ninja perks, people with HB sensors will cap you all day long anyway. I know I do!

The silent footstep of Ninja Pro is a more worthwhile perk for me, but not enough of one to make it worth running.

On my SMG? I had three setups at the moment.

Bling (silencer & FMJ) as I need FMJ kills to unlock extended mags.

Cold Blooded

Steady Aim

Bling (silencer & FMJ)

Hardline (near unlimited string of UAV's is very nice)

Steady Aim,

Then there is the default one, which does have Marathon & Lighweight, and the fabled Ninja.

My complaint is you do seem very weak to certain aspects of the game below level 30 when you can finally deal with air support and heatbeat sensors. The distribution of weapon unlocks is almost perfect that it just highlights that the distribution of perks is less so. I'd still swap the Thumper and Stinger myself (I have a mate who has been spending the last week stomping people in FFA with scores like 30-3 because so many players have no answer to air support as the unlock is so late)

I'll mix my classes up again now, I just hit 29 and have ninja. I'll be an annoying bastard and use the default "first recon" class as a makeshift ripper build and get both Ninja pro & the tactcal knife for the Magnum with a load of melée kills. That should see me to 30, and I'll finally be able to have a fully stealthed class with anti air capabilities.

Dunno what gun to use next when I have 9/9 attatchments for the UMP though. I might play with the SPAS a bit more, or try out the M4, which I loved in COD4.

Your set ups stink. Silencers are no good for SMGs, their range is limited enough as it is. Marathon and Lightweight are absolutely essential for SMG play. If you want to play silenced, switch to an Assault Rifle. With Marathon and Lightweight, you don't need to apply stealth, because you can clear 2 or 3 enemies, and then you run ALL the way round the map to flank from the other side.

Seriosly though, if you're having trouble with SMGs, just play Assault Rifle for a while, because SMGs really limit your routes, and you need to be very alert and a very good aim as well, and that's just to break even.

I though silencers were great with SMGs as with the UMP it pretty much has no effect on damage much and it helps reduce recoil- which you get a lot with SMGs. An UMP with silencer is way nicer than one without imo

I used AKS74U and silencer all the time on CoD4, as the vast majority of maps required you to be in close proximity to the enemy anyway when sneaking, and most assault rifles had rubbish iron sights. In MW2 it seems a little different. Wheras in 4 I would break away from the rest of the team and go in the opposite direction, picking off enemies following the flow of the match, in MW2 as soon as you do that you get team mates spawning around you giving away your position and drawing the battle to you. Annoying! The vector sucks silenced, but is pretty great in certain maps when loud, so to speak. Stealth in this game is more about either camping or ambushing players who aren't concentrating. My total stealth class is with a Tar-21 and silencer and AN Other attachment, usually HBS or FMJ or shotgun. SCAR assault rifle with ACOG and silencer works quite well, but you run out of ammo so quickly that you have to start looking around for other weapons.

The maps are a lot less suited to the way I played CoD4 with SMGs. You have to be aggressive/run and gun with them, rather than sneaky sneaky.

Actually my only complaint with the game is that there are really no great maps. Terminal is probably my favourite. I really hate Karachi partly due to lack of cover in some areas, mostly though because of that huge building - so many times you see an enemy, but if he darts round the corner you would have to trek miles round the map to flank him. Boring.

What guns are you using, Pootle, for that accuracy? That's pretty impressive. Mine's steadily decreasing from an obsession with FMJ kills with the L86

At present I've gone back to using the FAMAS with silencer equipped having maxed out the 'x amount of kills' challenges for the SCAR-H, FAL and M16. I used to have Scavenger Pro, Cold Blooded Pro and Ninja Pro but recently ditched Scavenger Pro having completed the challenge in favour of Sleight of Hand Pro (agree it makes a big difference!) and Ninja Pro for Commando Pro.

I've found myself recently getting among two or three of the enemies at a time and just meleeing them to death rather quickly without any repercussions which is amusing. I thought I'd miss Ninja Pro but so far it's not made a detrimental difference in my gameplay which is good.

The only weapon I use now is the AUG HBAR, it’s an absolute beast; it’s like a massive bastard assault rifle, with a gigantic clip, very powerful, and accurate enough to get kills from across the map. It’s so powerful you don’t really need stopping power, it kills with two or three shots anyway.

Previously, I used bling in the perk 1 slot, so that I could have a grip and FMJ and unlock all the attachments, but now I’ve got extended clips I’ll probably switch to:

Scavenger

Hardline

Steady Hand (or whatever it is that improves your hip-fire accuracy and lets you aim down the sight quicker)

…with a grip attachment, claymores, and a thumper as secondary weapon. Having a care package on three kills is well useful, if you get lucky you can be picking up harriers and pave lows all over the place, and you’ve pretty much always got a UAV on.

I can’t see myself using any other setup, at least until I unlock the ACR.

I would use a silencer on the AUG, but I feel that the grip is essential as it bounces like crazy without it, and if I want to run anything other than bling like scavenger or one man army (which I usually do), then I don't get much choice in the matter.

Tried out being a sniper last night and man I was bloody shocking. Every round of team deathmatch was negative until I went back to me trusted TAR with Holographic sight.

Determined to master the sniper though!

Well, tried again last night and after using the M21 sniper rifle as suggested it kinda clicked. I was dying 3 or 4 times a game and getting in the region of 10-15 kills. I think I need to look at the maps in a different light now too, as I navigated the map like I normally do when I use a Rifle but doesn't work so well with a sniper rifle. Still loving it though, makes you play different and keeps thing fresh.

Also manage to get l70 (first time round) last night which got me the AK47 and I had a little play with it and like it a lot. Reminds me a lot of the TAR, but with added coolness.

It's why I never prestiged and never will.

I'm with you on that. 5 classes is plenty.

The worst thing about the game imo is the fact that a lot of good stuff takes hours to unlock.

Take SitRep Pro, it is awesome. With my surround headphones it is almost as good as a HBS. But to unlock it you need to destroy 120 enemy equipment (C4, claymores, TIs). That was a HUGE pain. I'm not doing that again.

And despite me bad mouthing it a few weeks ago, I'm loving the AK47. Silenced with SP it is great fun to use. I don't want to lose that.

I will never Prestige, I don't think. I just don't play it enough to have to go through all the unlocks again, I'm only at L59 now iirc, and that's after playing it since before Christmas, with just over 2 days play time.

It's lost any meaning regarding the kudos of prestiging because of the boosters I'd say, I rarely come up against any post prestigers of any rank in FFA who are significantly better than me, and I come across many that are much, much worse, so I'm guessing it's rife.

As noted before, I don't need the extra class slot.

Still, never say never!
