I managed to get myself into a lobby of absolute spackers this evening. We're not always winning (everyone else pretty much except me is before prestige and clearly new to the game) but i'm getting around 30 kills and less than 10 deaths every game. They never bother to shoot down air support.

They seem to be sticking around, too. Easy way to earn some XP!

I had a funny moment on Karachi earlier on. I was playing a Hardcore match and every time I died I’d observe the same guy. He spent the whole match camping in the chicken coup at the top of the map. Every time I died and observed he’d be in the same place just starring into a cage of chickens. I died 5 or 6 times and checked his scores, 0 kills and 0 deaths. Then the 8th or so time I observed he was going mad killing every chicken in the coup, stabbing and shooting them like a man possessed. There were feathers flying everywhere. Next time I die, there he is hiding amongst the bodies of the dead birds – no kills, no deaths.

Probably he was trying to get that achievement, stupidly not realising that it's done in single player like every other one in the game.

Like you say there's some fucking strange people on xbox live, it's just as likely he's some sort of sick psychopath and was doing for kicks. Or he was high on something.

There's an accolade for 0 kills and 0 deaths called AFK. You don't get an emblem for it or anything, though.

Seriously though, something I just don't understand about my wife is that she is the one who buys pretty much all my games for me and then when I want to play them it's like some major faux pas. It may have something to do with the non-communicative nature of my playing, I can't concentrate on the game and talk at the same time at all. That seems to be important to her. I've tried to get her into games, even bought her a Wii and a DS but they're just a very short-term temporary distraction.

Maybe I should stop playing for 4 hours at a stretch but MW and MW2 just have that one more go thing in MP.

Played MW2 for the first time on Sunday (MP only). Enjoyed it overall but thought it wasn't really much of a departure from the original. The kill streak power-ups seem even more important now and slightly easier to activate. Knife kills seem easier as well (the commando power-up seemingly allows judgement defying knifing).

The game struggled to match me with similarly capable (or incapable) players, not sure if it makes any attempt to do this?

Oh, and I couldn't work out how to switch to the grenade launcher when I had the item

Not sure it does matchmaking, I usually see a spread of players in most games.

Agree entirely. I've recently switched to airstrikes over harrier/choppers (as any team worth its salt will have them downed in seconds) but it's a really pain in the bum when you've got a UAV in the bank but can't use it to see where your strikes should hit.

Yeah in much the same way, very often I'll get Counter-UAV and then have to fight another player before activating it, meaning another kill giving me a missile. That is a bit more useful with counter-UAV up, so it is annoying to have to use them in reverse order.

It was different in CoD4, partly because of the larger gaps between rewards than you (might) have in MW2, meaning you rarely had that situation. Although I think you just LOST any un-used streak rewards in 4.

You did, and that was much more annoying in my opinion than in this where it's better to use them after you die and re-spawn. The amount of UAV's that all went up at the same time in 4 was stupid, I just used it without thinking and continued gunning to get the airstrike.

But the harrier strike has an airstrike before it anyway, so it's a 2 for 1 compared to the airstrike.

+ not every match has a player with a rocket launcher, last night I used a harrier strike and got 1 kill with the airstrike and 3 with the harrier before it got shot down.

I will always switch to my cold blooded stinger class the minute I get killed by incoming air support, it bugs me that my team gets killed around me and hardly anyone else ever does.

Halfway through my second prestige, I'm absolutely loving the FAMAS, a gun I really disliked on my first run: FAMAS with silencer + ACOG, stopping power + ninja and either claymores or tactical insertion = FUN(AS).

Finally got my 'one bullet two kills' emblem too, good old Sub base and its long long sniper shooting galleries.

I'm way too underlevelled to go for anything exotic at the mo, so I'm playing about with famas and scars. I'm not taken with the scar at all when using the iron sights, but the famas is quite nice. What's the general opinion on assault rifles? I realise that for xp purposes it makes sense to level up everything as much as possible, but the scar was either a lot less accurate or I was just too slow with it.

Can the choice of gun influence speed of targetting? I seem to be able to get a quick shot out on famas in situations where I'm blasting all over with the scar - maybe it's the 3 burst versus free-auto thing?

[edit] also I can't seem to survive 5 seconds on rust - is there anywhere relatively safe you can go to get your breath back?

Combined with stopping power it's a beast, and the iron sights are so good you don't need the red dot imo. Personally I use FMJ with Sleight of Hand pro and stopping power, although I may try the silencer tonight as I've not experimented with it yet.

It's probably that, although yes certain guns do handle quite differently from each other. The AUG, for example, takes ages to bring up the scope with an ACOG attached. I think the scar has a little bit of 'wobble' when aiming down sights.

I am at that stage where I am locked into favourite setups and when I try something else I get annoyed that I don't have a particular perk/piece of equipment/gun. And I can't decide between AUG/Bling Grip + ACOG or AUG/Sleight of hand pro Grip. The grip is a pre-requsitie really, and the fast aiming with SOH Pro is a real boon on that gun, but it's really devestating at very long ranges with the ACOG

i use the famas with red dot, fmj and stopping power - its like a rail gun, awesome.

Really seem to be on my game lately. Mercenary TDM really suits me, as does the ACR. Just hit an all-time best of 37-5 thanks to a Harrier Airstrike and a Car Package containing...a Harrier Airstrike. 2 of those badboys in air went to town on Wasteland while I held the central area. Managed to pick up the 'Omnicide' challenge award as well (kill every member of the opposition team in 10 seconds).

Do people really use the Light Machine Guns for distance? I only ever use them to put down a lot of fire for cover in team games, or in maps where you can generally shoot entire areas for kills (Terminal, for example)

Some like the AUG/RPD are VERY good for distance- better than most assault rifles, if not all for two reasons. They lose no power over any distance- unlike AR's and something like an AUG with a foregrip has near max accuracy. You can destroy people over the other side of the map with well placed shots

I'm not much of a sniper myself, but one of these with Thermal and Grip on Underpass or Sub-base is fucking lethal!
