Modern Warfare 2

Just went 27-1 on Skidrow FFA with a 19 killstreak, easily my best game yet. Set myself up in the room with the turret. Had a claymore guarding each entry which some idiots died to time and time again. Had a sentry gun set up by the larger window and was taking people out in the usually congested area. My harriers and Pavelow also racked up a few.

Finding it much easier to do well lately, I guess due to the influx of new players.

I think the tip with Claymores is to point them in the direction that they will set off once somebody has gone past them, rather than as they approach them. You can get lots of kills in spots where people run past in this way, placing them behind the bin for example in the little gully on the top right hand corner of Underpass will always get people running past from the direction of the storm drain.

Heh.

I just unlocked the javelin.......it's actually fucking hard to use effectively against infantry innit?

Anyone got tips?

Use the AT4 (or whatever it's called) as the Jav is nowhere near as good against infantry. It is useable in certain places, against rooftop snipers or to drop on points in Domination, but it's too situational for my tastes. If I want Anti air, I'll use a stinger, if I want to clear out rooms I'll use an AT4 or noob tube.

The Jav can be fun, I have had lucky kills when it's missed my airbourne target because it's deployed a flare and some poor bloke was standing where it landed, but I see it as a jack of all trades, master of none kind of weapon. One of the weaker launchers.

I try to do this, especially due to people using Marathon. There's more chance of getting them as they run away from the blast, but are still within the 70 degree fire zone, than as they run across it.

Has anyone here been having success with knives? I used them yesterday in (of all maps) Wasteland to pick of stray snipers. Was really fun!

Though not when I missed and they realized what I was doing though as happened on one or two occasions :(

Tactical knife is your friend. If you have unlockedthe Magnum (level 28?) then choose the "first recon" kit from the default classes on offer, you should quickly get 75 kills with it. You trade Commando for Ninja, but ripper with Ninja is quite viable, especilally with Ninja pro. You get a monster of a primary weapon too, the UMP 45, one of the few guns on the game that you really don't benefit much from Stopping Power.

it's just a game dude, they have as much right to play it badly as you do to play it well. If you hate playing with ransoms so much, just play private matches.

Um yeah, thanks for the advice. Much appreciated. Firstly though, I'd like to make it clear that I don't pretend to be anything like exceptionally good at the game. My original post about noobs was less to do with criticising them for being bad at the game and more to do with how my cowardly plan to get some easy kills against noobs backfired on me.

On a different note, someone on the opposing team placed a sentry gun at the end of the pier that is one of the starting spawns on Sub-Base yesterday. Man that's a good place for a sentry - it's so hard to disable and it completely secures that whole corner, forcing the opposition to go round the other way, where you can lie in wait for them safe in the knowledge that they aren't coming from behind. Dying to get one out there myself now.

And I wasn't having a go at new players, I was having a go at predator missiles. And new players. Although you'd think if you were 2 for 20 you might try something different than running straight at the enemy. I know the red mist can make you do silly things though.

I still think we should do more to share good sentry gun spots. I cleaned up in the house on Estate by putting the gun by the big bay window/tv so its hard to get behind. It covers all entrances to the room and is almost impossible to destroy.

The corner by Burger Town on Terminal is similar, it covers two of the hottest areas of the map, top of the escalator and the floor between the metal detectors and the bookshop. You can stay in one of the alcoves nearby to lock the area down further.

People seem to be getting alot better at shooting down air support the past few days. My normal killstreak setup when im going solo is Predator-Harrier-Chopper Gunner, however Harriers and Chopper Gunner get downed so quickly I'm looking to change it up. I'm not sure what a good alternative to Harriers would be at the moment, I'll have to play around with the others in the 6-9 kill bracket. I've gone to the AC130 from Chopper Gunner on all maps now, it seems to give me more kills now once I got to grips with it and it lasts a hell of a lot longer if they try to shoot it down.

I'm quite happy that new people keep coming into the game. There's nothing worse than a game that just becomes the same few thousand hardcore players who know all the cheeky spots and tricks and are ridiculously good at it, making it zero fun after a while for more casual/average people like myself unless you're a psychic with the reactions of a cat. Like you say, after a number of hours playing the game you might think people wouldn't run straight at the enemy or stand atop of each other thereby providing easy multi-kills for the opposing team, but I sometimes find myself not really thinking enough about what I'm doing and following the same patterns on the same maps, so it's easily done.

Speaking of cheeky spots, a guy was sitting on top of one of the equipment racks at one end of the long workshop/hanger on Scrapyard last night, next to the door near the Comm array. He was almost invisible due to the height off the ground, and it being a blind spot when entering the room. It's funny how 99% of the scenery like that can't be interacted with, and then there are the odd places that people can climb onto, catches me off-guard.

I found the same guy right against the fence against the fuel cylinder on the other side of the map, shooting underneath it, along the ground into the corner next to the big building.

I tried changing from Harrier to Emergency Airdrop, but i found it difficult on alot of maps, theres sometimes just no way to drop them somewhere "friendly" and it just attracts people towards them (sometimes a good thing, but if you get overrun by the enemy, they can pick up some decent care packages). The added airstrike that the harriers provide is the reason i've found it to be the best around that bracket, but they're so easy to shoot down. I liked using the pave low when i first started playing it, but again i found the 5(missile)-7(harrier)-11(c.gunner) rewards much easier to go from one to the other without much work.

Man, I hate Estate. It just doesn't seem to work in Team Deathmatch. It's one of the biggest maps and yet vast swathes of it are entirely redundant. There's no flow at all - the action's centered around the house and its immediate vicinity. The folks I play with have become pretty proficient at locking it down, but it's sooo boring and feels ever so cheap. :(

Man, the enjoyment continues to evolve and grow. I was going through a FAL phase, sometimes with or without Stopping Power. However, I added akimbo Uzis to my ripper class, with steady aim and I've had an absolute hoot with it. I've had more wins that with any other class so far - worth a try for a giggle :(

Agree with this - all the larger maps are a bit boring - sub base, derailed etc. I think they're a bit too large even for 18 players at once.

I had a game a couple of days ago where someone was on top of one of the buildings on highrise. Not one of the middle huts, but actually on top of one of the two towers.

There's also a sneaky spot in one of the warehouses on quarry where you need to piggy back up onto the ladder (I think). There's a corner on that gangway that is pitch black.

You can jump and hang onto the broken window cleaning basket on the corner of the building. Climb up that then along the outside of the building on the middle ledge, then up the slanted window cleaning basket to get to the roof.

Not a glitch though.

Edit: DAMN YOU BAMBER!

I did mean throwing knives but in any case having unlocked tactical knives only today I totally understand what you mean by its potential power when combined with the right perks- especially since I used to wonder why people almost seemed to teleport when knifing - now I know it's because of this. Dual magnums, as I also found out today, are crazy effective (and gung ho) with steady aim enabled

Apart from this I was wondering more generally is it lightweight perk that enhances knife speed or commando or do they complement each other? More specifically which of these perks can I get away without using and just use the speed speed increase tactical knives gives in this regard? Lastly does anyone know if the pro version of sitrep cancels out ninja pros abilty to silence footsteps. I asked a while ago in the thread as I am still not sure myself whether more generally perks cancel each other out as this is the only particular confilct I have encountered myself.

I'd love to see some Halo 3 style heatmaps for some of Modern Warfare 2's maps - I think it would tell a few tales. Derailed suffers similarly, in that most of the action is centered on the one building. Part of the problem is I feel immensely vulnerable when I'm out in the open, so I find myself navigating to the comparative safety of certain locations. On the rare occasions I do venture out it usually results in a sniper's bullet ventilating my big fat head. Obviously I'd like to be that sniper guy, but experience tells me I can't snipe for shit.

Sub Base I actually like, but you're right - there's a sizable chunk of dead space where nothing much happens (I'm thinking over by where the Spetsnaz initially spawn). I invariably find myself navigating back and forth between the warehouse and the first floor server room, but generally the rest of the map doesn't get a look in.

Wasteland comes in for a lot of stick, but I don't mind it so much. Most of the action is centered around the bunker - which usually degenerates in to a massive gang bang - but it's not hard to catch folks out in the open. I usually pack a silenced ACR, Stinger (for aerial support) and my perks are Scavanger, Cold bloodied and Ninja. It serves me pretty well for the most part.

I agree about Terminal being a clusterfuck though - I like it, but I'm very conscious when I spawn as a Spetsnaz (at the bottom of the escalator) that I've got thirty or so seconds before the other team start start spawning in behind me. The only way I can get any kind of streak going is to play a silenced class and be massively tricksy.

The larger maps are the best ones. The new spawn system, while it sometimes messes up, is largely good in how it spawns you with your team. It's easy to work out where the enemy generally is from where your team is. If you walk off in the other direction you won't come across anyone. A two second look at the map and you can work it out. The small maps like scrapyard are a nightmare if you ask me, as it's impossible to tell where the enemy is most of the time.

Unless I'm in the middle of a team game I've pretty much stopped carrying the Stinger now, because of how much bulkier and more visible it makes you. When I'm carrying it, it's not that unusual to see on killcam me being pretty well-concealed except for the MASSIVE great thing on my back poking up behind scenery :/ Loving silenced TMP as a replacement now, too, rate of fire is brutal.

I've just got time to play this now, after getting it for xmas. I bought COD4 6 months ago and I've only clocked up about 5 hours on it, so I'm still green as anything. I can't seem to live longer than a few seconds in COD4, and it looks like MW2 will be the same.

Good job it doesn't hurt when you get shot in this B)

[edit] Just played my very first experience of MW2, straight into multiplayer FFA. I got 7 kills, which is quite high for me usually, but the lowest level apart from me was 30+.
